For several years now, a youth charity foundation “V.N.U.K” has existed in Moscow. The project activists themselves decipher the acronym as “Veterans need care and company” - and are ready to give the remaining veterans, those who do not have grandchildren, both. On the eve of May 9, their main task is to do a general cleaning in the apartments of those old people who can no longer cope with washing windows or shaking out carpets. And along the way, of course, talk - many veterans willingly share their memories of difficult times, and volunteers willingly listen to them. Most of the enthusiasts are very young: schoolchildren and students.
If you want something more pathetic than simple wet cleaning, then you can take part in the patriotic event “Thank you for the Victory,” which will take place on May 6–7. As part of this project, citizens can write any personal warm words of gratitude to veterans on postcards - and Moscow volunteers will definitely pass them on to the recipients. Special mailboxes will be installed in Moscow's largest parks, and all collected postcards will be sent to veterans' councils by May 9.
In addition, a photo album - perhaps already decorated with several cards from the war years - or something more practical would be an excellent gift for a veteran. According to experienced volunteers, an LED lamp (a great way to save on electricity in the coming months), a blanket or a warm blanket, treats like chocolate and fruit, or just a basket of groceries can please the elderly - what seems boring and unromantic to young people will be greeted with a bang old people.
Veterans with whom you personally know can be invited to the cinema - especially since it will not cost anything. More than 40 films dedicated to the Great Patriotic War can be seen at free charity film screenings from May 6 to May 9 in cinemas and parks. Such famous films as “The Ballad of a Soldier”, “The Fate of a Man”, “Twenty Days Without War”, “And the Dawns Here Are Quiet...”, “Belorussky Station”, “Soldiers”, “Mashenka” and other films will be shown. However, if going to the cinema were not free, many Muscovites would be happy to please the heroes. There is not even a doubt about it.
The option is no worse - going to the theater or to a concert, especially since on the eve of an important holiday several youth volunteer associations planned performances dedicated to the war, also for free. For example, at the Stimul cultural center (Sibirsky proezd, 2, p. 5) on May 4 at 20.00 there will be a concert of military songs “Let us bow to those great years,” organized by an amateur vocal studio. And near the Volzhskaya metro station (Shkuleva St., 15/18) on May 6 at 19.00, the actors of the amateur theater "Tener" invite everyone to the musical production "And the Dawns Here Are Quiet", in which old pre-war songs will be performed by young actors, - also free.

Light white chalets decorated with fresh flowers appeared on the streets and squares of Moscow. The aroma from them is unearthly: you can’t even believe that you are in the center of a metropolis. Sometimes it is mixed with the smell of ice cream or barbecue: there is food at the festival for every taste. But the main character of this spring is music. They play everywhere and in all modes. Jazz is heard on Theater Square, blues is heard a little closer to the metro... (By the way, the points with the artists are placed very competently: far enough so that the songs do not merge, and close enough so that you can quickly move between venues). In total, 150 performers will perform for Muscovites, which will total 1,200 hours of live music.
On Pushkin Square As part of the festival, the famous director and choreographer Yegor Druzhinin will stage the musical “Girl without an Address” based on the Soviet romantic film. The last session will take place May 5 at 16.00 and 18.00. In addition, thematic excursions will be held as part of the festival. If you're not in the mood for dancing, try the French chanson performed by Philippe Darès: close your eyes and imagine the narrow streets of Paris in the setting sun... Every half hour from 16.30 they will tell true stories about the war, and at 21.00 The film screening of “Once upon a time there was a girl” will begin - a film about the life of besieged Leningrad.
Theater Square- traditional meeting place for veterans - May 9 will live up to its name and become a platform on which scenes from plays about the war will be performed. Literary readings from young actors and graduates of theater universities will also be held on Triumfalnaya Square. The most active ones will be able to take part in collective readings of poems dedicated to the war.
May 8 and 9 Pushkinskaya Square will turn into an open-air cinema. A cinema will be installed at the monument to the poet: Muscovites will see musical performances and films about the war. And at the end of the holiday there will be a concert with military songs.
At the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on Victory Day Mosconcert artists will perform. Naturally, war songs will be performed. It is better to reserve viewing places in advance, because, as practice shows, there will be many people who want to see the columns of military equipment and “boxes”.
Reconstructions of military events

Military museums can be visited for free. The holiest and brightest holiday in Russia has always been and remains Victory Day. Other countries of the former Soviet Union also honor this date, paying tribute to those who died for liberating the world from fascist scourge. Victory Day on May 9, 2017, as always, will take place through the streets and squares of all cities in Russia and many other countries that suffered from the German invaders. On Poklonnaya Hill, the 2017 Victory Day Parade is broadcast live, and after it ends, a festive concert begins in an open area, where songs of the war years are performed by famous singers. And in the evening, at exactly 22 o’clock, the festive fireworks begin; Poklonnaya Hill is the best place where, from a height of 365 m, you can watch how the sky is illuminated with multi-colored lights in different areas of the capital.
Events for Victory Day 2017
After the end of the Parade, folk festivities begin in the parks and squares of the capital with a concert program and a field kitchen. People who experienced terrible war days in their childhood sing old forgotten songs to the sounds of an accordion and rejoice in peaceful life. The celebration of Victory Day is a tribute to the memory of those who have passed away and gratitude to living veterans, not one of whom will be ignored by the administration of cities and towns. Children of the war also receive gifts, flowers and congratulations; the city authorities organize days of remembrance for them, set tables, organize a Victory Day concert with performances by children's groups, which is especially touching for older people.
Many other events take place in Russian cities, but none of them can be compared in scale to the “Immortal Regiment”. The brilliant idea, which swept the entire country and went beyond its borders, was first held in the city of Tomsk in 2012 on the initiative of journalist Sergei Lapenkov. Every year the action is gaining momentum; Victory Day in Moscow 2017 will undoubtedly attract a procession of thousands and stretch across half the capital. Cities abroad picked up the idea, and now our compatriots living in other countries are organizing a procession in memory of their relatives who participated in the Great Patriotic War. In 2016, 50 countries around the world held the “Immortal Regiment” campaign, in which a total of about 25 million people took part. In the CIS countries, Israel, the Baltic states, Europe, America, Canada, Australia, China, local residents marched in ranks next to our compatriots.
The motor rally for Victory Day 2017 will be held in Yelnya, the city of military Glory. For several years now, motorists have been driving through places marked by battle monuments and obelisks, and ending their journey at Ushakovo Field. At each stop, military songs are sung to the accordion and flowers are laid.
Veterans and disabled people of the Patriotic War will receive payments for Victory Day, which should be higher than in previous years.
In 2016, the maximum amount for the holiday for this category of persons was 51 thousand rubles, due to inflation, some increase is planned, veterans can also count on an increase in pensions, the corresponding amounts have already been included in the country’s budget.
Victory Day in Ukraine
Unfortunately, not all countries of the former Soviet Union honor the traditions of the holy holiday. Victory Day in Kyiv in 2017 will show whether Ukrainians’ views on this day have changed compared to 2016, which literally passed with tears in their eyes. Elderly veterans and nationalist youths had their St. George ribbons torn off and burned in front of the police; the weak resistance of the elderly was brutally suppressed by young, healthy guys - we are not talking about any respect for the feat of the liberators or respect for old age. But, nevertheless, the “Immortal Regiment” marched through the city, its participants managed to reach the memorial monument to the Unknown Soldier and lay flowers.
Processions also took place in other cities of Ukraine, although they were not crowded. Fireworks on Victory Day in 2017, a favorite entertainment for children, will be in major cities of the country. Despite economic difficulties, the authorities are still trying to arrange a holiday for the townspeople - they are cleaning up the parks, planting flowers on the streets, and turning on fountains. Victory Day in Ukraine will always be celebrated with the hope of a peaceful sky and the restoration of justice, because those for whom this holiday is truly associated with the liberation of the country from Nazism and cruelty, those who preserve the memory of the feat of the Soviet soldier, are still alive.
