The concept of “honor” means the totality through which he gains self-respect. It includes such as nobility, justice, valor, courage, honesty, high morality and strict moral principles.
In the past, honor was associated not so much with internal qualities as with one’s ability to behave in society, to comply with established norms and rules of behavior. This was required to maintain reputation and respect for one’s person.

What is human dignity

To feel your honor and dignity, you must take a responsible approach to fulfilling your duty. This applies not only to debt to the state, but also to specific obligations and assignments undertaken. This includes fulfilling family obligations, taking a responsible attitude toward work assignments, keeping promises, and understanding the significance of one’s words and actions.
A man of honor is someone who has never done anything wrong in his life. He confidently follows rules and morals to keep his name clean. Such people are very loved, because you can entrust them with any task and be absolutely calm. A man of honor is not capable of doing anything terrible. He always strives to complete an assignment, keep a secret, or become a good adviser.
Life is easy for such people, because they always find support in society. Many are ready to help such individuals and offer them something interesting. If only it were possible to always choose the right actions, then there would be more people of honor. But not everyone is ready for such sacrifices; many put wealth and desires above their name. This is bad not only for the person himself, but also for those around him.
It is very difficult to earn such a reputation. To do this, you need to constantly think and never act at random. Only the right decision can be logical. Only it leads to good relationships and mutual assistance. A man of honor is capable of much, but he always looks at his pure name and tries to maintain it, so as to never face mistrust and contempt.

Let’s say a business person who promised to make repairs by such and such a date, gather people, bring equipment, and receive those who came from afar. You never know. Well, what a disaster, I didn’t accept it, didn’t do it, didn’t bring it. It will be done in a month, accepted in two days, and thank you for that. It happens that in fact there is nothing terrible, no catastrophe, if we exclude one circumstance - the word, the word was given.
For some reason, many modern pop stars talk with particular pleasure about how poorly they did at school. Some were reprimanded for hooliganism, some were retained for the second year, some made teachers faint with their breathtaking hairstyles... (3) One can have different attitudes towards such revelations of our “stars”: these are the only stories about mischievous childhood make people feel moved, others begin to grumpily complain that today the path to the stage is open only to mediocrities and ignoramuses.
But most worrying is the reaction of teenagers. They have a strong belief that the shortest path to fame runs through the police nursery. (b) They take everything at face value. They do not always understand that stories about a “crazy” childhood, when the future “star” amazed everyone around him with his exotic uniqueness, are just a stage legend, something like a concert costume that distinguishes an artist from an ordinary person. Hence the ironic and condescending attitude towards education, and the flirtatious mockery: “Learning is light, and ignorance is a pleasant twilight,” and arrogant narcissism. But the transfer ended. What remains in the souls of those who listened to the artist? What seeds did he sow in gullible hearts? Who did he make better? Who did he direct on the path of creative creation? When a young journalist asked these questions to one famous DJ, he simply snorted: fuck you, that’s not what I’m here for... And this bewildered indignation of the “pop star” reveals her civic immaturity, her human “undereducation.” And a person who has not yet built himself as an individual, has not realized his mission in society, becomes a humble servant of the crowd, its tastes and needs. If art does not call to the light, if it, giggling and winking slyly, drags a person into a “pleasant twilight,” if it destroys unshakable values with the poisonous acid of irony, then a reasonable question arises: is such “art” necessary for society, is it worthy of it? to become part of the national culture?

I remember the novel by A.S. Pushkin "The Captain's Daughter". It is no coincidence that the Russian proverb became the epigraph to the work: “Take care of your honor from a young age.” The attitude towards honor has become in the novel a kind of criterion for assessing human merits. The characters of most of Pushkin's heroes are revealed in their entirety in moments of danger, when the Belogorsk fortress is attacked by Pugachev's army. Captain Mironov dies, but remains faithful to his officer's duty - he does not swear allegiance to the impostor. Grinev is ready to follow his example. Vasilisa Egorovna shares the fate of her husband - such is the wife’s duty. Savelich, risking his own life, begs Pugachev to save Peter: the duty of a servant is to serve his master to the end. These heroes demonstrate loyalty to their principles, which means they can be called people of honor. They deserve enormous respect, unlike, for example, Shvabrin, who, saving his life, betrays his noble duty and goes over to the side of the Pugachevites.
Secondly, by the word “honor” I mean an untarnished reputation, that is, a positive assessment given to a person by those around him. Now for many of us, public opinion is an unnecessary stereotype. But, for example, in the nineteenth century, a damaged reputation could turn into a tragedy. In those days, there was a concept of “noble honor” - they valued it, fought for it and died in duels.
Thirdly, honor for me is inextricably linked with the concept of honesty. It is no coincidence that these words have the same root. A man of honor is truthful with others and with himself. He will never change the truth and will defend his point of view, even if his position does not coincide with generally accepted views. This is Chatsky, the hero of A.S. Griboyedov’s comedy “Woe from Wit,” who managed to resist the conservative and ignorant representatives of Famus society.
So, honor is a multifaceted concept; it can have different interpretations. But what is certain is that this is one of the eternal and unshakable values of humanity.

Pyotr Grinev follows this order. He loses the money to Zurin and repays the debt, despite Savelich’s protests and his statements about the possibility of getting out of the payment. Later, Grinev takes an oath and remains faithful to it even at the moment when he could lose his life. The hero does not try to deceive others and save himself. In addition, Pyotr Andreevich goes to a duel to defend the honor of Masha Mironova. But Shvabrin acts differently: he insults his “beloved” and all the inhabitants of the fortress in general, goes to the side of the enemy in order to survive, and tries to slander Grinev. Thus, A.S. Pushkin in his work presented readers with heroes whose behavior is a clear example of either honor or dishonor.
Let us remember Boris Vasiliev’s novel “Not on the Lists.” The main character arrives at the Brest Fortress just on the eve of the war. He had not yet been included in the unit lists. He had the opportunity to leave there and fight somewhere outside. But Nikolai Pluzhnikov did not do this and, moreover, became one of the last defenders of the fortress. He suffered failures, lost comrades, but did not give up completely. The lieutenant kills his former comrade, who voluntarily surrenders to the Germans. When the soldiers who survived in the fortress want to escape, Pluzhnikov does not leave his beloved, although he is persuaded for a long time, because Mirra is a cripple. At the end of the novel, Nikolai is left alone with the foreman. After he dies, the regimental banner goes to the hero, which he hides. In the tenth month of the war, the enemies find the lieutenant. He surrenders only when he learns that the Nazis were defeated near Moscow. The Germans give Pluzhnikov the highest military honors as he emerges from the catacombs. They were amazed by his courage and patriotism. Nikolai passes away with dignity, as he is a true man of honor.
Thus, I want to draw a conclusion. To be a man of honor means to live according to the laws of conscience and justice, fulfilling one’s moral and national duty.
