Bangkok is just three hours from Hua Hin. Therefore, getting to Bangkok is as easy as shelling pears, since this area is very developed.

There are different ways to get to Bangkok:

  • Train. He is slow and often late. But it’s inexpensive and picturesque.
  • Bus to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. The bus leaves from the bus station in Hua Hin at 94 soi. The bus is comfortable and convenient. Ticket price is 305 baht. Departure times: 07.00, 09.00, 12.00, 14.00, 16.00, 18.00
  • A taxi that will take you to Bangkok for 1800 baht. Comfortable and convenient, but expensive.
  • From Sra Song rd. There is a regular city bus, several trips a day. In Bangkok, he arrives at the southern station, from which it is difficult to get to the city center. Ticket price 160 baht.
  • The easiest way is to get there by minibus. On Sra Song rd. (near the night market) there are two companies that sell minibus tickets. It looks like this: there is a table, people sitting at it in blue suits are selling tickets. They usually shout "Bangkok, Bangkok!" There are also minibass.

On Phetchkasem rd. There are also companies that can take you to Bangkok. Ticket prices are almost the same from 180 to 190 baht. Departures every half hour from approximately 04.00 to 19.00. Travel time is 3-4 hours with one stop for 20 minutes to refuel the minibus.
Minibus stops in Bangkok: Rama Street 2, Victory Monument. It's easy to get anywhere from Victory Monument, as many buses stop at the square and there is a metro.

  • How we got from Hua Hin to Bangkok
We bought tickets for a minivan on Sra Song rd., guided by the fact that they sell tickets for a regular city bus. There's really no difference.
So, we came and bought tickets, while a couple more people came up while we were waiting. It was Monday and there weren't many people there. But this company’s minibuses come from Pranburi, so they don’t arrive empty.
When the minivan arrived, we slowly got into the minibus. Those who were more knowledgeable than us hurried up and took better places. These are the front seats behind the driver. This is important, because the minibus is uncomfortable even for short-legged people, and even unbearable for long-legged people.
In general, the long-legged one was seated on a single seat next to the door - there is somewhere to put his legs, although there is a minus - at all stops you need to let people in and out.
Yes, and also, you must wear a seat belt - the fine is 5,000 baht. The driver warns about this.
So, we set off in the hope that we would get there quickly without stopping, but that was not the case.
There were three usual scheduled stops. But the driver also stopped 4 times to do his own business: to go somewhere, to smoke, to buy flowers for a pendant, or to give money to someone else.
About an hour later, he dropped us off at a gas station and refueled for about 20 minutes. It is mandatory to get out of the minivan; you can leave things in it. At the gas station you could go to the toilet and buy something in the store.
Afterwards everyone loaded into the minivan. Let's go. Suddenly everyone suddenly became very hot. They started fanning themselves with anything. And then everyone realized that the air conditioner had been turned off for a long time and it was becoming impossible to breathe. The driver turned off the air conditioning at the gas station and then did not turn it on. He turned it on himself and it blew on him there, since sometimes a piece of cold air reached us. We drove, dying from the heat, for about forty minutes. The Thais sitting behind were very hot, but they silently fanned themselves without saying anything to the driver. Finally, they couldn’t stand it anymore and said something to the leader, but the driver either didn’t hear or didn’t want to listen. We opened the window and hot air came out, but at least it was more or less fresh. After 10 minutes, the driver suddenly began to turn the air conditioning switch knob and could not adjust it for a long time. But finally I got it set up, and we calmly moved on. Drivers are cunning after all - they save on everything.
We arrived at Victoria Monument three hours later. We got out of the minivan and went about our business.
In fact, this is a special case. Mostly, drivers do not turn off the air conditioning. But they drive differently: some quickly and without stopping, and others slowly, slowly, picking up and dropping off everyone on their way.

On this page:

In anticipation of numerous visits to us from beloved friends and relatives, I present the most detailed step by step instructions how to get from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport to Hua Hin.

Immediately small digression: Since the fall of 2012, Air Asia has stopped flying to Suwannabhum, and is now based, along with other low-cost airlines, at Bangkok's second airport, Don Mueang. There is a free shuttle bus between both airports; the journey takes about 40 minutes. The most convenient way to get to the city from Don Mueang is by taxi.

So, review in a variety of ways hits from Suwannaphum to Hua Hin:

BY PLANE

There is an airport in Hua Hin, but it is mainly intended for royal and military needs. Some airlines fly from there, but not to Bangkok.

BY TAXI

The fastest, most direct, but also the most expensive way to get to Hua Hin. A one-way taxi will cost 1800-2000 baht(= rubles). The official taxi counter is located on the first floor (Level 1 or Ground Level) of the airport; you can reach it by following blue signs with a typewriter and the inscription “Public Taxi”.

At the Public Taxi counter, on a first-come, first-served basis, everyone is put into a regular city taxi, which then takes you wherever you look according to the meter. Additionally, you only pay 50 baht for landing at the airport and tolls on toll highways. A taxi gets to Hua Hin in a couple of hours.

UPD: For unofficial methods of catching a cheap taxi at Suwannabhum Airport, read the discussion in the comments at the bottom of the post.

BY BUS

Also buses to Hua Hin depart from Southern Bus Station Bangkok, aka Southern Terminal, aka Sai Tai Mai. Buses leave every half hour from 4 am to 10 pm, fares are in the area 200 baht depending on the class of the bus. Sai Tai Mai is located in the middle of nowhere and can only be reached by taxi or city buses.

BY TRAIN

Railway station there is only one in Bangkok, it is located in the center at the metro station Hualampong(this, in fact, is the name of the station). Several trains in south direction depart every evening and pass Hua Hin around midnight. Traveling by train is convenient, but very long. This option can be used if you arrive in Bangkok in the evening, when minibuses (which are discussed below) no longer operate.

BY MINIBUS

The most popular and optimal combination of price and quality way to get not only to Hua Hin, but also to Cha-Am and Pranburi.

Minibuses in Hua Hin depart from the center of Bangkok from the metro station Victory Monument every half hour from 5 am to 6-7 pm.

1. At the airport, after receiving your luggage, go to an ATM or exchange office and cash out or change baht.

2. We go down to the underground floor of airport B1, where the metro station is located Airport Railway Link. Follow the signs “To City” with a train icon.

On the underground floor next to the metro entrance there is a 7-11 store where you can buy water and a SIM card, and a Dunkin Donuts cafe where you can drink coffee and snack on baked goods.

There are two types of trains from the airport to the city - red Express Line non-stop and blue City Line with stops. The first one goes to the station Makkasan, and the second - to the station Phaya Thai. A ticket for the first costs 90 baht, for the second - from 15 to 45 depending on the length of the trip.

3. We buy tickets for the City Line from the machine until the final terminal (Phaya Thai). The machine understands English and accepts bills and coins.

4. At the final station Phaya Thai (Phaya Thai) we unload from the train and go to the skytrain station of the same name BTS Skytrain. There we buy a ticket from the machine again, but now only for one station - to Victory Monument. A diagram of this entire part of the Bangkok metro is below.

5. At the station Victory Monument(it is located on an overpass above the street) we unload and go outside to right side streets along the train.

Here, minibus drivers nest in the side streets, transporting people around the outskirts of Bangkok. Transport offices look like a cluster of white Toyota Hiace minibuses with tables of ticket sellers nearby. They don’t have a clear division into areas, so we’re looking for posters with the inscription "Hua Hin, Cha-Am, Pranburi" or ask the occupants of the tables.

Minibus parking lots and the minibuses themselves look like this:

And the barkers grazing on the street - like that. You can say “Hua Hin” to them, and they will take you by the hand to where you need to go.

6. We buy a ticket for 180 baht to Hua Hin, we load into the minibus and go. Some drivers like to have a good drink, so it’s better to take something warm with you into the cabin.

7. The road from BKK to Hua Hin takes from 2.5 to 3.5 hours, depending on traffic jams and the number of stops. Minibus drivers load and unload people as they go, sometimes stopping at gas stations or near cafes, but there is only one global stop on the route to Hua Hin - Cha-Am. This resort town 30 kilometers from Hua Hin, the driver usually loudly announces a stop. There is no need to go out in Cha Am. It takes half an hour to drive from Cha-Am to Hua Hin.

8. In Hua Hin, all the people are usually unloaded, even if the minibus goes further to Pranburi. There are two main stops in Hua Hin: in the center on Srasong Street and nearby on Pechkasem Avenue. It’s easy to distinguish these two stops: if you’re on a narrow two-lane street, it means Srasong; if you’re on a busy four-lane highway with a bump stop, it means Pechkasem. Tuk-tukers and motorcycle taxis are constantly grazing at the stops, ready to take you anywhere in Hua Hin.

The location of minibus stops in Hua Hin is below.

One of the closest resorts to Bangkok is Hua Hin, just 3 hours away. There is also Bang Saen closer, but it is completely Thai, the beaches there are worse and the atmosphere is also different. Hua Hin is a very pleasant place, it is not for nothing that it is the resting place of the king.

There are several ways to get to Hua Hin: minibus, bus, train, transfer, taxi, plane. Some tickets can be purchased online.

About minibass

Minibus (or they are also called minivans) runs to Hua Hin from several places in Bangkok:

  • Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport
  • Khao San Road
  • Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai Bus Terminal)
  • Northern Bus Terminal (Mor Chit Bus Terminal)

Accordingly, whichever place is closest to you, you need to go from there (). The cost is approximately the same everywhere and amounts to 180-200 baht per trip. Travel time is about 3 hours. They run often, once every half hour or hour, but as the car fills up, somewhere from 5 am to 7 pm. They come straight to the very center of Hua Hin and drop off right at Phetkasem at the intersection with Naeb Kehardt near the central temple of Wat Hua Hin. This place is also called Clock Tower - clock tower. And almost from here (literally 100 meters) they leave back to Bangkok.

Please note that buses are cramped inside, and with a large number of things, as well as those who cannot tolerate cramped conditions, it is better to take buses and taxis.

Victory Monument

Since October 2016, minivans no longer operate from here to other cities in Thailand. The military junta was battling traffic jams in the square caused by 4,000 minibuses, which essentially created an illegal bus station in the middle of the city. Minivans have been distributed between the three main bus terminals in Bangkok and free shuttles now run from Victory Monument to these three bus terminals. Shuttles run from 4:30 am to 8:30 pm every 20 minutes.

Khao San Road

If you live in the Khao San Road area, then go to any travel agency and ask for a transfer to Hua Hin. It can be either a bus or a minibus. The prices are just higher than everywhere else.

Southern and Northern bus stations

Regular taxi

A taxi from Bangkok to Hua Hin costs around 2000-3000 baht, depending on your bargaining ability. You can take a taxi both from the airport and from the hotel. However, you can get right off the street. It travels almost as long as a minibus in terms of time, only with more comfort. Discuss the price in advance.

Car rental

I understand that it’s only a 3-hour drive to Hua Hin, but nevertheless I’ll tell you about this option. It may be useful for active travelers who are planning to travel around the area, or Hua Hin is their intermediate destination. Very convenient, a rental car arrives and is already waiting for you. I have already written all the points related to it.

By plane from Bangkok to Hua Hin

Here is the airport website http://www.huahinairport.com/, and at the moment there are no planes flying to Hua Hin. The reason is not known to me; they were still flying a few years ago. But it really doesn’t matter, you can always get there from Suvarnabhumi in 2-3 hours by taxi, which will be comparable in time and money.

Although there is information that a 12-seater Cessna Grand Caravan plane flies a couple of times a day. But I think it was canceled too.
