They debuted in 1985, playing in small clubs. In 1989, the group White Lady appeared. Even then, many noted Filippo’s talent, and fans were simply delighted with the music of the young band. However, the small town boy was looking for ways to express himself individually. In May 1991, Filippo became Nek and took second place in the Italian festival Castrocaro Festival. Nek himself explains the choice of a pseudonym this way: “When I was just starting my career, everyone called me just Filippo, but it was awkward and not very suitable name for the stage. In the summer of 1994 he recorded his third album “Colore Umano”, and took second place at the Festival Italiano with the song “Angeli Nel Ghetto”. In the same year, recognition came in Europe, he became the best young Italian performer.
In 1996, Nek recorded the album “Lei, Gli Amici È Tutto Il Resto” (“She, Friends and Everything Else”). This album brought huge success, and the most interesting thing about it is the lyrics, which are excerpts from the diary young man. The musician’s success did not go unnoticed: Nek signed a contract with the WEA Records label.
In 1997, Nek again participated in the Sanremo Festival, where he presented his most successful song “Laura Non C'e” (“There is no Laura”). Thanks to this creation, the album “Lei, Gli Amici È Tutto Il Resto” becomes six times platinum and sells over 600,000 copies. The European tour begins, and the album sells over 1,300,000 copies throughout Europe.
In 1998, the next album, “In Due,” was released, which even more surpassed the success of the past.
In 1999, the singer was nominated as “Best New International Artist” at the Echo Awards (German equivalent of the Grammy).
On June 9, 2000, the album “La Vita È” (“Life is…”) was released. Definitely the most successful album in Nek's career. A striking feature of the album was the creative collaboration with famous person– Nick Ingman – director of the London Session Orchestra. Ingman recorded parts for Neck's album at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Sound engineer Bob Ludwig also took part in the work on the record, mixing the music in Portland at Gate Way Mastering Studio. The video for the first single "Ci Sei Tu" was directed by Ian Russell. The second single from the album was the song “La Vita È”, then other songs were released.

In 1985, Nek sang in the duet “Winchester”, and in the early 90s - in the group “White Lady”. During this period, Nek was inspired by the work of the Polis group and Sting. Nek then decides to start solo career, and in 1991 he participates in the Castrocaro festival (Italian: Castrocaro), in which he immediately takes 2nd place. In 1993, he debuts at the Sanremo festival with a complex and controversial song about abortion - “In you (The child you don’t want)” - “In te (il figlio che non vuoi)” and becomes 3rd in the “festival opening” category " Unexpectedly, in 1997, he suffered a setback, and he did not get a place at the festival in Sanremo with the song “There is no Laura” - “Laura non c"è.” But this song, even without receiving recognition at the festival, immediately becomes a hit, which confidently ranks first places in the Italian charts, and then in the world. In Russia, from this moment he becomes known to the general public. The song is about a girl named Laura, who left him, and he, trying to forget her, finds another, but in there he does not find what he loved in Laura. Thus, the image of Laura remains with him forever.
Then his other hit comes out: “You’re already big” - “Sei grande”, and he goes on a tour of Europe. During this time, he has managed to sell more than one and a half million discs of his 4th album: “She, friends and everything else” - “Lei, gli amici e tutto il resto”. This is followed by a tour of Latin America, and the disc comes out in Spanish.

At this time, Nek’s music finally reaches the country of the Gauls, and a new, this time Italian-French version of the song “Laura non c"è” is released, which he sings in a duet with the Frenchwoman Serena. However, the French part of the song suffered greatly during translation because it was adapted for France, so the meaning of this part is different from the original song.
Published in 2005 new album Neka “Una parte di me” - “Part of me”, on which, among other songs, there is such a hit as “Lascia che io sia” - “Let me be”. In the summer of 2005, Nek won first place at the Festivalbar with this song. "Lascia che io sia" was the most popular song on Italian radio at that time.
The album, released in 2006, was called by almost all critics more adult than the previous ones: “Nella stanza 26” (“In room 26”), as well as its Spanish version “En el cuarto 26”. The songs on this album are written in social topics: Thus, the very title of the album and the song of the same name are dedicated to the problem of prostitution in Italy, since in Lately Italy is literally overwhelmed by a wave of prostitutes from of Eastern Europe. In an interview on Italian Radio, DJ Nek said that he once received an anonymous letter from a prostitute who came to Italy from abroad (from Eastern Europe). She was forced to do this to feed herself and her family. This letter served as the basis for the song, but only with something different, happy ending, added by Nek himself.
Several songs from this album became hits: “Notte di febbraio” - “February Nights”, “Instabile” - “Changable”, “Ancora un giorno di te” - “Another Day of Yours”, “Serenità” - “Wisdom”.
For the song “Nella stanza 26” Nek received the Lunezia Prize - Poetry in Rock 2007.
