Krabi province on the map of Thailand

Distance from Bangkok to Krabi

Krabi is a province in the south of Thailand, located on the shores of the Andaman Sea opposite the famous island of Phuket, on the opposite side of Phang Nga Bay. Krabi is a small settlement with a population of about 25 thousand inhabitants, according to the Internet. In my opinion, there are more people there, but I don’t pretend to be the ultimate truth, statistics know better. Krabi is 813 km away from the capital of Thailand. For Thailand this is a very significant distance.

Krabi Resorts

The most popular resorts Krabi provinces are Phi Phi Island, where Leonardo DiCaprio filmed famous movie“The Beach” and the mainland resort of Ao Nang, where Leonardo DiCaprio has not yet starred in any films. We will tell you about the delights of a holiday in Krabi sometime in the future, but for now we will concentrate on the road from Bangkok to the famous province. Traditionally, Krabi can be reached in three ways: by bus, plane and train. To be honest, I don’t know why I should talk about rail travel in Thailand, I don’t know a single person who has traveled around this country by train.

By plane from Bangok to Krabi

Asian low-cost airline AirAsia

Traveling by plane in Thailand is very convenient. If you plan your flight in advance, tickets can be purchased very cheaply. From Don Muang Airport to Krabi you can travel by Air Asia for 1.5 thousand baht. Very affordable. If you don’t pay for baggage and fly only with hand luggage, it may work out even cheaper. It is better to book cheap tickets from Bangkok on the airline’s official website 3-4 months before the trip. There are usually no cheap tickets immediately before the flight.

Train from Bangkok to Krabi

Although Krabi is located on the mainland and not on an island, it is not possible to get there directly by train. From Hua Lamphong Railway Station, which is located in Bangkok at the metro station of the same name, you can get to Surat Thani or Trang, and from there take a bus. It will take about 3 hours to get to Krabi by bus. Not the most convenient trip and not the cheapest. Train tickets start from 500 baht (for sitting seats) and end at 1200 (for more or less comfortable lying ones). You will have to pay another 300 baht for the bus.

Bus from Bangkok to Krabi

Buses are the main transport in Thailand. You can take the bus from anywhere to anywhere. For example, a trip from Bangkok to Krabi will last 12 hours and cost about 800 baht. You can get there on hard second-class buses for 500 baht, but you'll be cursing your stinginess the whole way. Municipal buses from Bangkok to Krabi run from southern bus station(Sai Thai). 4 buses leave in the morning (the first one at 6:30, then every half hour). One at lunch (at 14:00), and 6 buses in the evening, starting at 18:00. A very convenient option for traveling to Krabi is a bus from Khao San Road. Tourist offices in Khao San sell tickets for private night buses to Krabi for 600-700 baht. From 6 to 7 pm, the bus picks up passengers at Khao San and Victoria Monument and departs for the resort. The seats on the bus are comfortable and wide enough. You can even lie back and sleep. Carriers provide passengers with water, snacks and blankets. Of course, such an overnight stay cannot be compared with a full rest on the bed, but you can endure it.

« Shouldn't we go to Krabi province? - you thought, and became concerned about finding ways to deliver your overworked body to this province of Thailand. Well, of course - not Pattaya, which is not far from the capital, but all the way to the south of the country. Nothing scary or complicated - here you go detailed instructions O in different ways travel from to Krabi - expensive and cheap, fast and slow

Method one: by plane.

The fastest, most comfortable and easy way. You can immediately transfer from an international flight at Bangkok airport, and in just over an hour you will be in Krabi. AirAsia and Thai Airways have direct lines. The latter are much more expensive, but also more comfortable. Although what difference does it make - the flight is still short. The cost varies, but in any case it makes sense to buy in advance. Especially if there is a promotion. AirAsia generally has some promotions most of the year, so if you worry ahead of time, you can “catch” tickets for 2,000 rubles round trip. Thai Airlines also has discounts, but in any case it will cost more. Although you fly like a Rajah. If you buy close to departure, then get ready for a price of 5000-6000 rubles round trip.

If you are arriving from another country, you will first have to go through all the necessary immigration procedures and only then board for domestic flights. Although, theoretically, Krabi airport is international. And you can fly there right away, since there are border guards there too, and Krabi is on the list of settlements where visa issues can be resolved. But I can’t speak about my experience. People write that it is possible. If you are flying from the city, or it is a transfer from the interior of Thailand, you can go straight to the local lines terminal. Planes fly regularly, several times a day. Problems with places may only arise close to the holidays or during the peak of the high season.

An alternative option is to fly to Phuket if you find cheap flights there, and from there get to Krabi. For 50 baht you can get to Phuket bus station. A bus to Krabi will cost 150 rubles and take about three hours. But this is a topic for a separate article.

How to get there from Krabi airport.

By bus The airport is located a few kilometers from Krabi Town - the capital of the province, and 30 kilometers from Ao Nang - the nearest resort point sea coast. The most convenient way to get from the airport to Ao Nang is by express bus (Shuttle Bus). The bus has air conditioning. Schedule (on at the moment): 6.45, 9.45, 11.15, 13.15, 16.15. The ticket costs 150 rubles. The drive is about 40 minutes. If the hotel is large, then you can try to tell the name of the hotel. If not, either find something famous not far from the hotel, or disembark yourself where your eye stops. The main thing is not to pass by. And then the driver might think

If you need to stay in the city, a ticket to Krabi Town costs 50 rubles. To the bus station 60. Then you can get from the bus station to Ao Nang by songthaew (local open minibus) for 50-60 baht. They go much more often, but also longer. Usually they white and with route inscriptions on the sides of the body. Read more below. In principle, you can take such a minibus from the airport to the bus station. I don’t know if they stop at the airport itself, but rather on the road nearby. But this option can be a lifesaver if the last shuttle has already left and taxis are expensive. There even seem to be minibuses that go past the airport and to Ao Nang.

Taxi. If there are several of you, or the flight is late/early, or funds allow, you can take a taxi. The cost to Ao Nang is standard - 600 rubles. There is no point in haggling - everything is official. And from Ao Nang to the airport they cost the same. But it's fast and comfortable.

Renting a car is also sometimes necessary. For example, we were traveling with a lot of things and wanted to immediately rent accommodation for long term. But you have to look for it - a taxi would be wildly expensive. We ordered a car in advance, although you can try to rent it on the spot. Company offices are right at the airport. An ordinary Japanese car, new and with air conditioning - 1000 rubles per day. You receive the car with a full tank and return it as well. We need to return back to the airport. Well, you already know how to get from the airport without a car.

Method two: by bus.

A more budget option, but more stressful. Official buses to Krabi province run from the Southern Bus Terminal. Travel time is 12 hours. There will be stops several times. So you’ll have plenty of time to grab something to eat. Several flights in the evening (that is, you will travel at night, which is convenient) from 18.30 to 20.00. Buses are air-conditioned. There are two classes: regular for 50 seats for 570 rubles, and VIP version for 24 seats for 920 rubles. In the second one, it seems like they still feed me, although I don’t know for sure. But often on long-distance intercity buses they give you a drink and a cookie, even on simple tickets.

Alternatively, you can contact some travel agency. For example, on Khao San. You can be transported either by a regular bus or by a minibus. But no one gives guarantees here, the price may be higher or lower, the travel time is longer (up to a day), and it happens that they steal on the road - so choose. But in general, among the long-livers of Thailand, non-state buses have a bad reputation - despite the beautiful facades, these are often dead buses. In addition to the above problems. Although there are trusted agencies that will deliver you for about 1,200 rubles in a comfortable minibus and with ease. And maybe even to Ao Nang. This also happens. And the schedule of private passengers is more flexible - there are both afternoon and morning flights. In any case, keep in mind that if the flight is in the evening, you will get to the departure point during rush hour. Allow this time so as not to be late for your bus. Or leave early.

Official routes- straight. On unofficial ones, you may have a transfer somewhere along the way. You don’t need to do anything - they will look after you and tell you where to sit. But at night, transferring somewhere was stressful anyway. Especially if there are two of them. All buses arrive at the Krabi Bus Terminal. Private owners sometimes drop them off at their offices in Krabi.

How to get from Krabi to Ao Nang.

Minibus. There is a separate stop for songthaews (minibuses) right at the bus station. This is an open top pickup truck. It fits up to 10 people. Although they can get more crowded. The cost of travel to Ao Nang is, in theory, 60 rubles. But sometimes drivers get confused and demand 80 (usually in the evening). To avoid “surprises”, check the cost in advance. The ride, depending on the time of day, the number of passengers and the driver’s efficiency, ranges from 30 minutes to half an hour. Minibuses run every 20-40 minutes. Until 21 o'clock. True, you shouldn’t count too much on late flights.

Taxi. Well, what would we do without him? Again, if you have a lot of things, it can be convenient. Or if the minibuses no longer run. Or you need to quickly, quickly. Not everyone goes to Ao Nang - some need to catch the ferry to the islands. The cost of a trip from the city to Ao Nang is 500 rubles. Almost the same as from the airport. But unlike the airport, taxis are not always available at the bus station. But they deliver you straight to the hotel.

Hitch-hiking. That's possible. Checked it out for yourself. Required when transport is not available and taxi prices are high. You're unlikely to catch anything from the bus station, so it's better to get out on the road. Most likely you will have to change several cars. Be patient. The cost is free, the experience is priceless

Method three: by train.

More precisely, train + bus. Because in Krabi railways No. The nearest stations are in neighboring provinces. These are the cities of Surat Thani and Trang. Or the station in between is Thung Song Jn (I don’t know how to pronounce it). The train will take longer than the bus. And there are more problems (all sorts of transfers and so on), but it’s convenient because you ride lying down. At least it’s easier with children.

Trains depart from Hua Lamphong Railway Station. True, you should worry about places in advance. Because there may not be sleeping places, and sitting for 11-13 hours on simple seats is not the most pleasant experience. And there are a lot more people wandering around there, which is stressful. In Trang, trains stop less often, twice. There are about 10-11 trains to Surat Thani during the day. Ticket to Surat Thani 2nd sleeping class(2nd class sleeper) without air conditioning will cost an average of 530 rubles. In an air-conditioned carriage - 830 rubles. First class (compartment with two seats) will cost about 1,280 rubles. Prices for top and lower places differ slightly (about 50-70 rubles). The cheapest option is third class, a seat, without air conditioning - 300 rubles. Damn, but do you need it?

How to get from Surathani (or Trang) to Krabi province.

Travel agency. If you bought a train ticket not at the Bangkok station, but at a travel agency, then the price often includes a bus to Krabi. If not included, you can buy such a ticket separately. They will pick you up directly from the train in Surat Thani (Trang). But the price, of course, will be higher. A cheaper option is to buy a bus ticket at the train station in Bangkok. Usually there is some Thai guy there who actively sells everyone any routes. People seem to be going, but like everywhere else in such places, sometimes they get scammed. The price is somewhere around 300-350 rubles, but you will save time. Theoretically

On one's own. Two options. Or buy a ticket at the nearest travel agency near the station in Surat Thani (Trang). A ticket will cost about 300 rubles. You will be taken to the bus, the bus will arrive either at the Krabi bus station or at the company office in Krabi. Or take a tuk-tuk and go to the bus station yourself. Buy a ticket there for 120-160 rubles and go according to the schedule. Buses depart every 45-60 minutes from morning to evening (if I’m not mistaken, until 16.00 from Surat Thani, and until 21.30 from Trang). There are minibuses - a slightly different schedule, and baht are 10-20 more expensive. It's a three to four hour drive.

4. Taxi. A wildly expensive option, but if there are a lot of things, or public transport It’s hard to travel for some reason, then for ten thousand they will take you directly from the airport to the hotel. In Bangkok itself you can find it cheaper - for about seven thousand. But this is the limit.

Actually, there are still various tricky “Susanev” ways of traveling from Bangkok to Krabi and Ao Nang, but we’ll leave extreme options for extreme people. And to you - a successful and easy journey!

More expensive and comfortable planes traditionally fly from Suvarnabhumi, and local low-cost airlines fly from Don Mueang. All planes, regardless of their place of departure, land at international airport in Krabi International Airport, located in the eastern suburbs of the provincial capital.

Ride the bus

Traveling by bus to Krabi from Bangkok is the most popular way to get to this province.

You can leave Bangkok by two types of buses – regular and tourist.

The one-way fare on a regular bus is about 725 baht. They depart in the morning - one flight and in the evening, from 17:00 to 22:00 - up to 10 flights, depending on the day of the week. Transport departs from the Bangkok South Bus Station - New Sai Thai Bus Terminal, located on Borommaratcha Chonnani Road.

On the way to the bus station in Krabi - Talaat Kao, transport takes from 11 to 13 hours, respectively, night flights are very convenient, as they save time and, what is also important, do not spend money on paying for overnight accommodation.

However, the day route also has its advantages - along the way you can see ordinary life not the “ceremonial” Thailand, take wonderful photos during “sanitary” stops and shoot an excellent video from the bus window. There are stops along the way every 2-3 hours.

Buses for tourists wait for their passengers along Khao San Street in Bangkok and depart as the group gathers. They travel a little longer than regular ones, on average about 15 hours and make a lot of stops along the way.

Tickets can be purchased at almost any agency or, which is much easier, directly on the bus itself. The average cost of a tourist trip starts from 1,300 baht.

By car

This is not a cheap, but even a very expensive way to get to Krabi. A liter of fuel costs about one dollar, and you will have to travel about 800 km, that is, with the most budget-friendly car and without stopping anywhere, gasoline will cost about 58 dollars, however, in practice, this amount can rise to hundreds.

neajjean/flickr.com

However, a significant advantage of such a trip is the ability to stop wherever you want and stop at national parks along the way.

The most popular and simple options the routes are as follows:

  • Leave Bangkok in the west along Highway 35, then turn onto Highway 4 and, having reached Chumphon, take the westward along the highway along the coast and follow it to Krabi.
  • Continue to Chumphon as well, but turn not to the west, but to the south, onto Highway 41, then follow the sign, turn southwest, onto Highway 44, and then from this route, follow the sign, return to Highway 4 and take it to Krabi.

These itineraries do not include any national parks or any of the small towns along the way. If you want to make your trip as interesting as possible, you should arm yourself with a good detailed map highways, which can be purchased at any car rental office. And you can rent a car through.

As for traveling on a bike, it will be no different from traveling in a car, except for one nuance: there are not many gas stations along the way, so you need to have gasoline with you. You can rent a bike on the website.

By train

Such a trip can be quite interesting, but it is absolutely not suitable for those who do not like transfers and those who have little time. The fact is that there is no railway junction in Krabi itself; the road to it was not built due to the serious complexity from the point of view of relief engineering in this province.

Flights depart from morning to evening, every hour and a half. The ticket costs $5 and travel time is 3 to 4 hours. These buses do not make stops.

In general, if you want to get to Krabi inexpensively and conveniently, a trip on a night bus would be ideal, and if it is important to get to this province as quickly as possible, then you should go to the airport and buy a plane ticket.

For those who want to travel as interesting as possible, a trip by car or bike is a good choice, and for lovers of exoticism, national flavor and adventure, a trip in an old train carriage in the company of Thais will be a real “gift”. For those who want to sleep well, wash up in the morning in comfort and at the same time be on the road, saving time, a trip in a compartment or reserved seat is best suited.

That is, among the ways to get to Krabi, you can always choose the one that will fully correspond to your personal preferences and budget allocated for the trip.
