Transfer Pattaya - Koh Chang and back, as well as bus and taxi. How to get from Pattaya to Koh Chang: distance, public transport, travel tips

I recently posted detailed description Moreover, now I want to write separately about the transfer from Pattaya. If you haven’t read the link above, let me remind you that Koh Chang is an island, so you first need to drive to it by land, then take a ferry, and on the island itself follow the route to the desired beach. What Pattaya has over Bangkok is that it has plenty of transfers to Koh Chang.

There are 3 ways to get to Koh Chang from Pattaya: by transfer, by bus or by taxi. For reference, the distance between Pattaya and Koh Chang is about 270 km.

Group transfer by minibus

This method is the simplest and most convenient for those without a car. And to be honest, I wouldn’t even consider others; I don’t see much point in saving an extra 100 rubles. So, what is good about a transfer? It is also sometimes called a tour, like the Pattaya - Koh Chang tour. The good thing about it is that they will take you from hotel to hotel, that is, from a hotel in Pattaya to a hotel in Koh Chang. Moreover, you can immediately buy a return ticket, and this will really be a tour. The transfer can be purchased at any travel agency. The price tag you will be offered is 600-900 baht one way, including a ferry ticket.

As a rule, all local travel agencies sell the services of several transport companies, so there is not much difference where to buy. You can also buy it online, and the same thing will happen.

Payment by bank card or PayPal, electronic ticket, very convenient.

One of the companies, 35 Pattaya Group

The lowest price tag is offered by 35 Group Pattaya. I indicated their office on the map; it is located on Pattaya Tai Street (South Pattaya). The only thing is that for this you will need to go to their office, intermediaries will sell their tickets more expensive.

The minibus will cost 400 baht, including a one-way ferry ticket to Koh Chang Ferry Pier. A ticket to the hotel on Koh Chang costs 550 baht one way, including a ferry ticket.
The minibus runs 3 times a day: 7:00, 9:00, 13:00.
Travel time is 3-4 hours to the pier, and then what happens with the ferry.

You need to buy tickets in advance, at least a day in advance, otherwise there may not be seats. You can also go to other places with 35 Group Pattaya. In addition, Koh Chang is taken to Samet, Koh Wai, Koh Mak and Koh Kood.

If you are then going to return to Pattaya from Chang, then buy a return ticket immediately, it has an open date (you will need to notify about two days before your return), because there is no 35 Group Pattaya office on Koh Chang, it is located near the pier Koh Chang Ferry Pier is on the mainland, and it’s not a fact that there will be places. Accordingly, if you do not buy a return ticket in advance, you will have to buy transfers on the island from local travel agencies at a higher price.

Prices for transfer Pattaya— Koh Chang and back

Taxi Pattaya - Koh Chang

The most expensive option. I think everyone knows how to take a taxi and there is no need to explain anything. Go outside and look for the car. As an option, order an individual transfer from any travel agency. The cost is somewhere around 3000-4000 baht per car if you go to the pier. Travel time is 3-4 hours.

Another taxi option is - (ferry included) which can be booked in advance online. The car will be entirely yours, without other passengers. It’s convenient that there are no hassles, you don’t even need to leave the house. In terms of price, this is especially beneficial if there are more than 4 people. Then the amount will be divided among everyone. It costs the same as catching a taxi on the street.

Car rental

My favorite option. IN lately I always take my car everywhere. You don’t depend on anything, complete freedom. Considering that car rental in Thailand is inexpensive, it is available to everyone.

You need to rent a car through, then the price will be approximately 2 times lower than directly. This is an intermediary broker that issues offers from all international distributors. That is, no small companies and individuals who can then cheat.

Although the roads on Koh Chang are narrow in some places, it is quite convenient to drive a small car, such as a Honda Jazz or Toyota Vios. I drove all over the island for 2 weeks and no problems.

Bus Pattaya - Koh Chang

The most budget-friendly method is more complex and is not suitable for everyone. Its essence boils down to the fact that you need to take a bus from Pattaya to the bus station in Trat, change there to a minibus going to the pier, then take a ferry and swim to the island, at the island pier, take a minibus and get to the desired beach.

I have already written in a general article how to get from Trat to the pier and how to get around on Koh Chang island. And I described everything about ferries in the article. So all that remains is to tell you how to get to Trat from Pattaya.

You need to get onto the Sukhumvit highway at the intersection with Central street and catch a bus there. It is advisable to ask the locals who sit in the offices of bus companies or motor bike companies, where is the best place to do this and when the bus will arrive. They will help stop him. There is no bus station from where it comes, it runs a couple of times a day, around 6:00 and around 11:30. He is a regular driver and picks up everyone along the way. Travel time is 5 hours, ticket price is about 180 baht.

Also, on this bus you don’t have to get to Trat and get off along the road. There is a desk there on the highway from which minibuses go to the pier. But IMHO it will be difficult for beginners to pull this off.

Koh Chang Island is a beautiful large green island with developed infrastructure, a large number of beaches, and even several waterfalls. It is not as popular as Phuket or Samui... And it’s easier to get from Pattaya to Koh Chang - you don’t need to fly to it, you can get there by bus and ferry. And when you have limited travel time per week - this important factor... So, how to get to Koh Chang and how much does it cost?

While in Pattaya, in the central promenade area you will find huge amount tents of local travel agencies offering, among various tours and excursions, a bus trip from Pattaya to Koh Chang.

The distance to the island is approximately 250 km. The duration of the trip is from three hours. The bus goes to Trat pier, then the ferry to Koh Chang. What is the price? The cost at agencies varies, one might even say negotiable, and reaches 1000 baht (25 euros) per person one way - this amount includes pick-up at the hotel and the ferry to Koh Chang. We found it for 600 baht (15 euros) per person, a total of 1200 baht (30 euros) for two one way. You do not need to pay the entire amount at once; you can make an advance payment and pay the rest to the bus driver. As it turned out later, the carrier 35 Group Pattaya in its office sells these tickets even 2 times cheaper - for 600 baht (15 euros) for two. Return tickets still cost 300 baht (7.50 euros) if you buy them at the Trat pier.

A day later, at 13:00, a comfortable Toyota minibus for a dozen people with a leather interior and air conditioning picked us up at the hotel. After briefly collecting the rest of the passengers around Pattaya, we headed to Trat. During the trip that lasted almost 5 hours, we were “covered” several times by tropical downpours, which is why we drove for so long, but we got there without incident... Except for my favorite sunglasses that I forgot in the minibus... Bus Pattaya - Koh Chang reaches the Trat Koh Chang Ferry Pier, from which a ferry departs every 30 minutes from 06:30 to 19:00 to Koh Chang island.

The ferries on Koh Chang, to be honest, look a little scary - in some places you can see through corrosion...

The ferry filled with people and cars floats slowly and for a long time, about 30 minutes... During this time, not so much because of the approaching evening, but because of the approaching next tropical September downpour, it became completely dark. We landed in the pouring rain in pitch darkness.

How to get there next? You can get to your hotel on Koh Chang exclusively by the same pick-up minibuses (songteo) - the price depending on the distance is from 50 to 150 baht (1.25-3.75 euros) per person. Our hotel was the furthest away - on the other end of the island... The trip is very reminiscent of a roller coaster! From the changes in altitude, constant turns and exhaust gases entering the pickup under the film that saves from the rain, by the end of the half-hour trip I began to feel sick...

But the hotel Nirvana enveloped us for two days in such solitude, tranquility and fog that it seemed as if in that half hour we had left civilization to the ends of the earth...

Koh Chang is an island in Thailand (Trat province), located near the capital and main tourist resort. That is why tourists from here very often come here. In addition, many independent travelers often choose Koh Chang as a place for long-term stay when visiting the land of smiles.

By the way, Koh Chang is the third largest island in Thailand (after Phuket and Samui). We ourselves stayed on Koh Chang for only 5 days when we arrived there. And in this article we will tell you how to get from Koh Chang to the most popular resort in Thailand among tourists all over the world - Pattaya.

How to get to Koh Chang island in Thailand from Pattaya

    • Option 1: Pattaya-Trat bus. The option is inconvenient because you need to catch the bus on the Sukhumvit highway, and there is no bus station in Pattaya. Moreover, you need to catch the bus either at 6 in the morning or at 11:30, but it is not a fact that there will be seats on it, and the driver will stop it for you, farangs. The cost of the bus is 180 baht, to which you need to add the cost of a minibus to the Sukhumvit highway, a minibus from the bus station in Trat to the ferry and the price of the ferry ticket to Koh Chang. In general, this is not an easy option; we did not dare to try it due to the impressive luggage and the child.
    • Option 2: transfer Pattaya - Koh Chang. A ticket for a minibus from Pattaya to the island can be bought at any travel agency in the city, and there are a great many of them in Pattaya. Our compatriots love the transport company very much 35 Group Pattaya, reviews about them are always the most flattering. You can buy a transfer from their company in Pattaya at the office in the north of the city:

If you don’t want to go to buy a transfer to the north, we advise you not to worry and buy a transfer in any travel agency closest to you. In fact, the drive is only 4-5 hours, so possible inconveniences can be tolerated.

You will have to spend about 5 hours in this mini-bus

Another convenient option for purchasing a Pattaya-Koh Chang transfer is Internet service 12go.asia. It is convenient because you can buy a ticket without leaving your home at all, on the Internet, after paying for it Visa card or PayPal. Transfer price on the website is total 500 baht including crossing. But it’s better to buy tickets in advance, at least a few days in advance, otherwise there may simply be no seats in the minibus.

We arrived at the bus station first and waited for the others who wanted to get to Pattaya

How to get from Koh Chang to Pattaya

    • Option 1: regular bus. As in the opposite direction described above, we rejected this option as more complex. And all because regular buses from the city of Trat to Pattaya leave only early in the morning and from a certain place. Of course, this is a more budget option: the cost of a trip on such a bus is approximately 200 baht. But in this case, you need to add the cost of the ferry (80 baht) and travel from the ferry to the bus station (another 20 baht). Plus, you will need to get to your hotel in Pattaya from the bus station on your own (another 10-20 baht).

The total cost comes out 410 baht ($12) at a minimum, and the number of transplants and nerves exceeds the tiny savings. Especially if you have luggage and a child. After weighing all the pros and cons, we decided to use the second method.

    • Option 2: from Koh Chang to Pattaya by minibus. This method is called "Transfer". In our opinion, the most optimal way to get from Koh Chang to Pattaya. It includes picking you up with your luggage from , taking the ferry (you don’t even need to get off their bus) and delivering you straight to your accommodation in Pattaya.

Total cost of the trip - 650 baht ($18) per person. If you are ready to get to the Klong Son bus station on Koh Chang on your own, then the cost of a transfer to the hotel in Pattaya will be 550 baht ($16) per person. Small children can be carried in your arms without purchasing a separate ticket, but in our case we were advised to still buy a separate ticket for Vanya, with a small discount.

Koh Chang-Pattaya transfer prices. Red prices - with pick-up directly from your hotel on Koh Chang, black - if you get to the bus station on Koh Chang on your own

Buying a Koh Chang-Pattaya transfer off-line was not difficult: in the area we found a travel agency that sells all kinds of tickets: from air to buses. In other places it turned out to be 50-100 baht more expensive, and they did not offer a discount for Vanya. Here it is on the map - https://goo.gl/maps/dFcjUS21WJA2.

    Ticket agency on Koh Chang

As a result we bought 3 tickets from Klong Son station in Koh Chang to our condo in Pattaya in total for 1450 baht. Plus the cost of a tuk tuk from our hotel on Koh Chang to the bus station.

Traditional Thai tuk tuk or songthaew

In addition to purchasing a ticket for the Koh Chang-Pattaya transfer at a travel agency, it is possible to buy it online - on the website 12go.asia . Price - 500 baht, but getting to the bus station in Koh Chang and from the bus station in Pattaya in right place you'll have to do it yourself.

There's quite a bit of bass inside comfortable chairs with reclining backs, so you could sleep on the way. Once we stopped for a snack at a roadside cafe. Overall, we were satisfied: we got to our condo in 6 hours, without spending any extra effort or time.

Hurray, we are there! Total 270 km

Koh Chang Island is the third largest island in Thailand. After Phuket and Koh Samui.
A sufficient number of Russians choose it for wintering. Why, I don't know. In my opinion, living on an island is difficult and boring, but this is a matter of taste, of course.
The island of Koh Chang attracted me because you can get there from Pattaya by car or by ferry. On the island closest to Pattaya, Samet, unfortunately,
    You can't come by car.

From Pattaya to Koh Chang by car

From Pattaya to Koh Chang island it is only 350 km by car.

If you don’t have a car or the desire to drive one, it’s easy to leave by taking an all-inclusive excursion to the island of Koh Chang.
I included it in the list of 20 best excursions in Pattaya, so if you need contacts of a proven and reliable travel agency, with whom we have been traveling for several years and recommend to friends and readers, write in the comments - I will send it by email.

We left home early in the morning and arrived on Koh Chang island by lunchtime.
Since little Dasha was with us (she was only 1.4 years old at that time), the road did not seem fast and cloudless to me.
In reality, the journey takes 4-5 hours, not counting the ferry crossing. Koh Chang is about 350 km from Pattaya.

    Ferry to Koh Chang

The ferry service to Koh Chang island is located near the town of Trat. It is impossible to get lost; there are signs all along the road that will lead you to the right place.
    Pier 2:
Koh Chang Ferry Pier at Ao Thammachart - ferry cost per person 80 baht and 120 in both directions and 200 baht for the car.
The ferry runs every hour from 6 to 19:00 and until 21:00 on weekends.
Center Point Ferry Pier is the same, but the car is free.
The journey takes about 40-50 minutes, which flies by unnoticed, since on the second floor there is a mini-cafe with coffee and drinks.
The crossing seemed reasonable to me, although quite long. First you buy a ticket for the car and passengers, then you stand in line.
Port employees line up the cars and help them load onto the ferry in order of priority.
Of course, we were “lucky”; our car did not fit into the ferry and we had to wait for the next one.
Ferries from Trat run every half hour, contrary to information on the Internet. Although, perhaps this is because our trip fell on a weekend.

When exiting the ferry to Koh Chang, you will be offered tuk tuks to all the beaches of the island. Cost from 50 baht per person to the nearest white sands beach, up to 120 baht
for the road to the very end of the beaches of Koh Chang, the fishing village of Bang Bao.
The road to Koh Chang is not closed in a ring.

What kind of Koh Chang is he?

For some reason, I expect something special from the islands every time, I don’t know why. In reality, even Ko Lan, even Ko Chang and Samet, differ from each other only in area and number of people.
Of course, let’s not exaggerate, there is almost nothing to see on Ko Lan, and on Ko Chang there are elephants and waterfalls with a jungle, but in general, for an ordinary tourist who comes to “swim” in the sun, it’s all the same. If you want more privacy and Asian flavor with an atmosphere, then don’t be lazy to go to the island closest to Koh Chang, Koh Kood. This is where paradise truly lies.

An island is an island in Thailand too, with all the consequences, such as: prices for everything are several times higher, medicine is so-so, difficult situation need to go to the nearest
Spend. Standing in line for the ferry is also a dubious pleasure.

Going for a weekend, changing the scenery is ok, but living, well, probably not.

On the Internet, it is customary to describe your trips to the islands as heavenly and unforgettable, omitting some everyday and other shortcomings as not significant.
This is, of course, my subjective objectivity, but what can you do, everyone has the right to their own point of view.

All Koh Chang Beaches - which one to choose?

The choice of the beach on Koh Chang was closely connected with the hotel. I definitely needed the first one coastline so that the beach is clean and prices are reasonable.
In principle, everything is bad with the reasonableness of prices for hotels on the islands. The choice is small - there is enough competition, the price for which in Pattaya or Bangkoi you can rent a room in a very good hotel,
on Koh Chang it will be barely 3 stars and, God forbid, vacationers will rate it at 6.7 points.

There are several beaches, the most popular is White Sand beach, which I immediately rejected as a beach with too many people. Packs of package tourists are brought there and I wanted a more secluded place.
Although, upon arrival it turned out that White Sand beach is not as bad as it is painted. There are all sorts of parties and get-togethers.

There are a lot of hotels along White Sand beach. When you arrive, you can walk along the shore and choose the one you like.

Where to stay on Koh Chang

If you arrived in Koh Chang on your own, you will probably want to rent a bike. Despite my considerable driving experience, I would not drive on Koh Chang.
A narrow serpentine road showered with small pebbles does not evoke much desire to get behind the wheel of a bike. Very often they get into accidents there, of course they don’t have rights, these are all sad stories.
What to do? Take a car or tuk tuk.

To get started, look at hotels, choose a beach, read reviews and narrow your search. Decide what you want - walk a lot, see the surroundings,
go on an excursion or just lie on the beach.
What are you going for? For a family or romantic vacation or to hang out?
If you are a party-going youth, then Klong Prao will be boring and quiet for you. Everyone goes to bed there after sunset :)

We didn't plan to go anywhere far, so I combed Klong Prao up and down and finally chose hotel - Magic Resort.
Returning to the conversation about savings, it’s a pity that at that moment I couldn’t find it at all in any booking system,
but Room Guru has it and it’s almost two times cheaper than what we rented on the spot (!!). On Rumguru the price of the house-room in which we lived on the same dates is total $36 .
I think this is a very good option for the money and corresponds to what I wanted. My husband doesn’t agree with me, so as you can see, there are so many people, so many opinions.
The advantages are a nice clean beach, a good cafe right on the pier nearby, unobtrusive staff, a place to park your car, peace and quiet, perfect for a child.
Of the minuses - everything is shaky and the amenities are not for the pampered and faint of heart, everything is very, very simple. Everything is old, but working. I don’t really care, I was going for the beach and silence, so
    I was satisfied with everything.

We looked at Klong Prao Resort, there were a couple of options and prices started from 4000 per room.
Then we walked towards Amari. I can't remember the name of the hotel that connects to Amari, but I was shocked that the only rooms left were those on the first floor, overlooking the
the staff kitchen, which smelled like garbage and was priced at over $100 for a room no larger than 15 meters.

I started to get upset that I couldn’t find anything decent and not expensive.
Walking along the beach past Amari, we came across the Magic Resort and decided to stay there.
For 100 dollars we rented 2 rooms (one house with two rooms) right on the seashore. Each house was designed for 4 people.

Magic Resort Koh Chang - pros and cons

Let's talk about the good stuff first.
Great, great location. Magic Resort is located on the very shore, and it is very fortunate that it is at the end of the bay, behind it there is only one tiny hotel and then further on, on the rocks.
That is, at your disposal is a huge piece of beach, on which there is no one except three crippled guests of the Magic Resort.
I didn’t really understand why there were so few people on the beach, since I counted at least 25 houses and they were all occupied. And only we and a couple of other people were sunbathing on the beach.

Nice, clean beach, shallow entrance, ideal for children, lots of greenery.

The Magic Resort Cafe is located on the pier, meaning breakfast and lunch and dinner are very authentic, right in the sea and with views on all sides.

The price - in comparison with other offers, for a 4-bed room, seemed to me simply unheard of generosity.

Well, now let's move on to the cons.

Staff is an unfriendly administrator, as in Soviet Union. With English on you.

Breakfast - you choose from the menu, and it is almost terrible. We got out of it, since we had 8 coupons for breakfast for 5 people, so we could at least choose something.

The whole room consists of two double beds (we had a room for four)) and a shower with toilet.
The rooms are shabby and not even fresh. But the worst thing is that there are no mosquitoes in the room, as in the whole of Ko Chang.

We were certainly unlucky. Before going to bed, I smeared Dasha entirely with mosquito repellent lotion; only her eyelids were left unsmeared, where the mosquito bit her.

In the morning, the child’s eyes almost couldn’t open, so he had to go to the Bangkok Koh Chang Hospital under insurance. Where we waited for an hour and a half, although there was no one but us,
The doctor examined me for a minute and prescribed antihistamines and ointment. It helped right away.

Then, they “forgot” to return our passport, even though the insurance company (Reso) had already confirmed the payment. When my husband returned to get his passport, the Russian employee sprayed him with this
a tub of obscenities that if it weren’t for the ferry, they would have gladly filed a complaint against her. Just a boor and a pig.

With all this, do not forget to buy travel insurance abroad. It doesn’t cost that much, just pennies for a short period of time, but it will save you a fabulous amount of money and nerves.
I constantly keep my finger on the pulse, insurance policies often change, new ones are added, old ones disappear. On at the moment most best option insurance abroad, this is definitely ERV, with coverage
from 50,000 dollars. In second place is Zetta, but in general it depends on your needs.
. It’s the cheapest place there and the employees will always answer all questions, help solve problems if any arise, and can even push through (and do)
insurance companies when they start refusing to pay large sums payments.
Thailand is the most unprofitable direction for insurance companies, because they contact us very often. For the same reason, you need to be insured!!!

Not a negative, but just for the record, Magic Resort does not have a pool. Who needs him there, of course, but suddenly.

We stayed there for two nights and personally, I liked the trip.
In the evening, quiet pleasant music played, the surf roared, and after putting the children to bed, we chatted in the dark, enjoying the salty air of this beautiful island.

I was surprised how Thai people are. Apart from us, no one expressed a desire to have dinner at the cafe on the pier, and so, we arrived around 22:00, it turned out that
they no longer work. Or rather, it was 20 minutes before closing, zero people, and when asked if they would be open, they said no. And really, why?

Well, no problem. We had a great time sitting on the open veranda on Amari Beach. I highly recommend the restaurant on the beach. The prices are certainly not encouraging, but it’s very tasty.
Perhaps the only place where everything we ordered turned out to be delicious. Very interesting and not trivial selection of dishes, excellent cocktails.
If you want dinner in a romantic setting, this is the place. They work until late.

What to see on Koh Chang?

We stayed only a short time and, in principle, did not plan trips to waterfalls and the jungle.
We saw the elephants, fed them (you can still ride) and went to View Point.

Elephants are not difficult to find, the farm is opposite the hotel Centara.

You can’t go wrong with the observation deck either, it’s behind Klong Prao beach. It's hard to get lost when there's only one road.

Dasha’s eye spoiled the impression of the holiday, I honestly panicked, and immediately thought - how is it possible with small children
live on the islands? If something happens, you won’t have time! There is no intensive care unit in the hospital and there are one and a half doctors wandering around, whose competence can be doubted.
Seriously ill patients are transported by helicopter to Trat. Will insurance pay for this? question.

Yes, prices were also delivered. For the examination and cheap medicines they billed 5,000 baht! Five thousand! For seeing a therapist!
The husband shrugged his shoulders and said - Katya! Well, do they need to live on something? There are no people, so they are driving up the prices, what should I do?

Overall, I liked the trip to Koh Chang, like almost all trips. The feeling of the road, the choice of hotel, the joy of the sea and the sun, new places -
all this is great and what people are going on the road for.
But it’s probably unlikely that we will go to Koh Chang again soon. The closest one to us, Samet, is no less picturesque and you don’t need to travel 4 hours by car.
And also, I want to go to new places. But if you are wondering whether to go to Koh Chang or not, of course you should go!
