Rita Ora - about love, a new album and arrival in Russia. An episode in a blockbuster and the newly-made “Monroe”

The personal life of singer Rita Ora has always been eventful. After a scandalous breakup with DJ Calvin Harris, she started an affair with the son of American designer Tommy Hilfiger, Ricky Hill, and, according to rumors, was going to marry him, but a year later they broke off the relationship. After this, Rita dated drummer Travis Barker, but only for three weeks. The singer's new boyfriend was Andrew Watt, the ex-guitarist of the California Breed group, who plays music in the hard rock genre. True, Rita confirmed her affair with him only now, after more than a year of relationship.

Andrew Watt and Rita Ora

Rita was indirectly inspired to do this by the Irish mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor. At the last award ceremony at The Fashion Awards, Conor and Rita sat at the same table and communicated too nicely and closely - according to eyewitnesses. After photos of celebrities published by the media, Rita was criticized for flirting with a married athlete, who gave birth to a son in May this year. The singer, instead of direct excuses, first published on Instagram page photo with her boyfriend Andrew, accompanied by a caption in the form of heart emoticons and thereby confirming rumors about their romance.

The fact that she “loomed” in the frame for a couple of minutes (before the start of the race in Fast and Furious 6) and played cameo role in the highly criticized erotic exercise “Fifty Shades of Gray” does not yet make her a movie star. And it’s too early to predict the girl’s fame as Rihanna. Probably not creative biography, and Rita Ora’s personal life made her a media heroine. For example, the scandalous affair with Rob Kardashian, when Kim’s younger brother accused his ex-girlfriend of repeated infidelity...

Biography of Rita Ora

From Kosovo to London

Probably, a certain mysterious flair hovers over the biography of Rita Ora, thanks to her place of birth: she was born on November 26, 1990 in a no longer existing country - Yugoslavia. Now the birthplace of Rita Pristina belongs to Kosovo. But the girl’s rather exotic appearance is a consequence of her Albanian origin; among the representatives of this nationality there are plenty of “scorching” brown eyes.

As for Rita herself, she has no need for her homeland. Her father and mother left the bustling, troubled city when her daughter was still a baby in a stroller. They settled in London, where Rita graduated primary school, and then - theater and went to college. For as long as Ora could remember, she loved to sing. So participation in the “casting” for Eurovision was not a surprise for her friends.

Under the wing of Jay-Z

After working with Craig David on his singles and appearing in the singer's video, 18-year-old Ora decided it was time to go solo. She signed a contract with a recording company - this became the reason for meeting the owner of the label, Jay-Z. For this purpose, the British woman visited New York. Already at the end of 2009, she was involved in recording singles for her new producer Jay-Z.

Two years later, the joint video of Rita Ora and DJ Fresh “Hot Right Now” was released on the YouTube channel; the composition began to lead the British charts. And in February 2012, the debut solo single “How We Do” appeared in Rita Ora’s biography. Later an album was released with the simple name “ORA”. It’s the only one the performer has so far.

An episode in a blockbuster and the newly-made “Monroe”

In 2012, Rita was invited to the filming of the blockbuster “Fast and Furious 6”: she portrayed a scantily clad girl starting the race. It seems like only a minute or two on the screen, but it turns out that this simple scene took several hours to rehearse - Ora turned out to be an inexperienced actress.

A year later, the singer received a flattering offer to become the “face” of the autumn-winter collection of the Roberto Cavalli brand: they quite boldly made her a “double” of Marilyn Monroe. Rita has collaborated with fashion houses before: she starred for Donna Karan and Adidas.

Became Gray's sister for a long time

She joined the film crew of the film adaptation of the novel Fifty Shades of Gray, which caused a stir on the Internet, and received the role of Mia, Christian Grey’s half-sister. The singer was sincerely happy to be involved in this high-profile project, which was discussed with such fanfare at all levels.

Alas, the mountain gave birth to a mouse; no one expected such a low rating for the film. But the box office receipts were still quite good, and a painful continuation of the “masterpiece” awaits long-suffering viewers, and Rita seems to have a contract for both sequels. Let's sympathize with the girl!

Personal life of Rita Ora

Frivolous or calculating?

As for Rita Ora’s personal life, everything is seething and bubbling! She was the girlfriend of Rob, a member of the famous Kardashian-Jenner clan, for almost a year. But the guy found out about the adventures of his British girlfriend and threw mud at her on Twitter. She did not remain in debt and responded to the accusations by continuing the quarrel. Then Rita was 22 years old, Rob was 25.

In mid-2014, Rita, having abandoned another fan (Calvin Harris), had fun with another colleague. It was Ricky Hill, a representative of another famous family (his father is couturier Tomia Hilfiger).

But Calvin showed enviable patience and friendliness: he did not “publicly” quarrel with his former passion and “let her go in peace.”

He even produced her single “I Will Never Let You Down,” which topped the English chart.

The singer, model, actress, as a designer, produces a line of underwear with the Tezenis brand... Rita Ora's frantic energy and temperament do not accept frames and restrictions. It seems that everything about her is over and over the edge. By the age of 25, Rita had become the idol of millions, but this was not enough for her

If I had to describe Rita Ora in one word, it would be “challenging.” He is in the songs, in all her appearance as an ash blonde with bright red lips. Ora seems to be constantly testing the strength of this world, her environment, stereotypes and herself. She doesn't care what people think of her as long as she believes she's doing the right thing. Raised in London, the daughter of Kosovar immigrants, today Rita Ora is one of the most... popular singers and Britain's coveted socialites. Provocatively sexy, she has repeatedly become the face of advertising campaigns for international fashion and beauty brands and has appeared naked on the covers of many fashion magazines.

Rita calls herself “the most strange man on earth,” without specifying what exactly he means. I dyed my hair as a child spray paint and redesigned her clothes. Now she has a couple of dozen wigs, which she changes according to her mood. Bold and independent, Ora is not shy about being sentimental - she can cry while listening to the X-Factor contestants.

Despite her overtly sexual image, according to the calculations of society chroniclers, she does not have many novels: with American singer Bruno Mars, Scotsman Calvin Harris and Tommy Hilfiger's son, rapper Ricky Hill. In April, the tabloids, with varying degrees of confidence, nominated rapper Jay-Z, Beyonce's husband, whose betrayal she sings about in her latest album Lemonade, as her lover. Rita Ora then wrote on Twitter that “all this gossip is a lie.” This, however, did not calm Beyoncé’s angry fans, who unleashed a barrage of curses on Ora. But she doesn't care much about that. At least in appearance: she masters the purely British ability to hold a face to perfection. But at the same time she herself says in a slightly hoarse voice: “Many people forget that celebrities are people too. Sometimes".

Marie Claire: Rita, you once said that music and fashion are similar. How?
Rita Ora: No, I didn’t say they were similar - they complement each other, one works for the other and vice versa. It is one creative world. In my life now they are really strongly intertwined: I star in a lot of advertising campaigns for fashion brands, and I love it.

If you had to choose the soundtrack of your life, what would it be?
It’s hard to say, I’m only 25. I haven’t seen a lot of things, everything is still ahead. So, honestly, I don't know. I can’t name just one song or even an album.

Okay, then tell me, what's on your playlist right now?
IN Lately I listen to Section Boyz, PartyNextDoor, Mr. Easy and this new guy, Gallant.

Your image of a blonde with bright red lipstick– is already a kind of brand, inseparable from music. I haven’t thought about changing it, you like change, don’t you?
I didn’t come up with this image, it came together naturally. And in general, people stand out and are attracted precisely by natural manifestations. And the artificial mask that you “put on” and which at the same time does not correspond to the content, is seen as such from the outside. I look the way I feel. I like to experiment, I often change some elements of the image, but I don’t plan any radical changes yet, no.

Do you follow fashion trends?
No, it's not for me.

Then how do you define your style?
I am inspired by things that give rise to some associations or memories. Yes, I look at a lot of new collections and choose what I like, but not because others assure me that it is fashionable and cool. I don’t really care when someone says that this season you need to dress one way and not another.

You are the face of several Tezenis collections, and have appeared in advertising for lingerie and bikinis. It seems like you have real chemistry with this brand?
Oh yeah! Filming the first campaign last year went great and I'm glad I was invited back. And now I’m not only the face of Tezenis, but also a co-designer of a lingerie collection that will be released early next year, on Valentine’s Day. I absolutely love working with them, I love that this brand is not only fashionable, beautiful, sexy, but also affordable.

What inspired you to become a designer?
When I started working with Tezenis, I realized that I wanted to release my own collection, so I told them - and that’s where it all started. I'm interested in making something exclusive - a small line of bright, sexy and at the same time comfortable models.

MC: What is your greatest achievement to date?
Rita Ora: I am incredibly lucky to be able to do what I truly love and see my dreams come true every day. I am a workaholic, I love to work, I try to do everything one hundred percent. I like to study at the same time different things which, I must say, I’m quite good at combining: music, design, TV projects, cinema. I think this is my main achievement.

By the way, about cinema. Tell us about your role in the new film Fifty Shades Darker.
As in the first part, Fifty Shades of Gray, I play Christian Grey's sister. I'm happy to be back on set with the amazing Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson and the whole crew. In the sequel, Kim Basinger also joined the cast: working with a legend is, of course, worth a lot. By the way, the film is also coming out on February 14 next year - in my opinion, it’s a great coincidence, there’s something in it.

How is working in film different from music? I mean the process itself, the atmosphere.
The musician has more control over the process and the final result: it is your vision, your music. In cinema, everything is different: there is a scriptwriter, a director, and you, as an actress, embody part of their plan. This is difficult, but I like it. A completely different feeling, unlike what you feel on stage.

In 2009, you qualified for Eurovision, but then refused to participate in the competition because you didn’t feel “ready”. Would you like to sing now?
To be honest, I didn’t think about it, so much time has passed. When I was chosen as one of the candidates, I was very happy. I was terribly worried, in order to prepare for the competition I even decided to skip a year at school. And then, when the time came, I realized that Eurovision was not very interesting to me as a format and as a stage, so I refused.

With the Oscars, everything is probably different. How did you feel when you sang on stage at the world's main film awards last year?
It was more scary than ever. I can’t even really describe this feeling: a mixture of fear and pride. You go on stage and just feel with your skin that millions of eyes are watching you at that moment, that there is no turning back. And in the hall sit your childhood idols, whose films you grew up watching, and you look at them, and they look at you. Despite the fear and excitement, it was the best experience of my life. I tried to feel and remember every second.

MC: Are you working on an album now? When can we expect new songs?
Rita Ora: Yes I h I’m recording a new disc, but I’ll just say that this is one of my most personal and honest albums, so I worry almost more than about my debut.

How do you choose the musicians you work with?
I have an amazing team, the composition of which has remained virtually unchanged for many years. We are like a family, we know almost everything about each other. Random people does not happen: if someone new appears, it is usually friends of friends. You can’t just get into the Ora empire, that’s for sure. Kidding.

In a recent interview, you admitted to a fear of death. Where is he from at 25 years old?
It's not that I'm afraid. I just think a lot about the future, and death is one of its forms. Probably so.

How did coming from and living as a Kosovar immigrant family in Britain influence you?
I was born in Kosovo and was only one year old when our family emigrated. I have wonderful parents and I had a wonderful childhood. But of course, where you come from is a part of you, I have songs about struggle and survival, and that is to some extent a sublimation of the teenage experience.

You were named after Hollywood star 1940s Rita Hayworth. Do you feel connected to her?
Rita Hayworth was one of my film director grandfather's favorite actresses. I don’t know if there is a connection, I just got used to it and live with this name, but I hope so - she’s a legend.

What do you value most in people?
Honesty, loyalty, trust.

What if you are betrayed?
I generally try not to dwell on the negative. If a person disappoints me, this feeling lives in me for some time, but then I let it go. The most important thing is not to hold a grudge.

The first visit of Jay-Z's young ward to Russia, as well as conversations about music, film roles and the Russian language.

On October 27, one of the most interesting musical events in the capital took place - for the first time, the star of the British charts, fashionista and beauty Rita Ora came to Russia. The concert, organized with the support of HP and Universal Music Russia, took place on the stage of the Moscow GlavClub. By the way, not everyone could attend the event, but only those who bought the brand’s equipment within the specified period (from September 1 to October 26) or participated in one of the official competitions.

Before the concert, Rita spoke at a press conference with the participation of Alexey Voronkov, vice president, director of the group of personal systems and printing devices at HP in Russia, and Dmitry Konnov. general director Universal Music Russia. Well, since Rita does not speak Russian, Ilya Buts, a former Chief Editor Russian edition of Billboard magazine, and currently – director of new business at Universal Music Russia, TV presenter at Europe Plus TV. The singer spoke about her participation in the Eurovision qualifying round from Great Britain, as well as how she began music career. It is interesting that Rita is a native of Yugoslavia, but almost immediately after her birth, her family moved to the British capital. And Rita’s mother, having lived in Moscow for 5 years, speaks excellent Russian. “So when my parents fight, they do it in Russian.”“, the singer jokes. Ora also spoke about her collaboration with the Adidas brand, with artists, and also lifted the veil of secrecy about her new film: “I can’t tell you yet what kind of film it is and what it’s called. But this is not 50 Shades of Gray, no"- Rita laughs, - “This is a film about a boxer. And it will be a big surprise for everyone."

On this moment The singer is working on a new album, which she says should show what she's really made of, and is also taking part in the British show "the Voice".

By the way, Rita’s artistic life is indeed very eventful. And in Russia, long before the concert, real hype was created around the singer’s visit itself. Therefore, on the day of the concert itself, the hall was packed to capacity, and while DJ Simon warmed up the hall, middle school students squealed with happiness under the stage, and journalists from the most relevant and fashionable media hung out in the VIP zone: GQ, YES!, TimeOut Moscow, etc. The concert was also attended by stars of Russian show business: Yana Churikova, Victoria Daineko, Dzhigan, Mitya Fomin, Alexandra Balakireva, Yulianna Karaulova, Elvira T and others.

The performance itself lasted a little over an hour, but during this time fans heard all their favorite compositions, including "Black Widow", "Shine Ya Light", "Hot Right Now" and of course "I will never you down." Even during the press conference, Rita was asked about her attitude to the fact that sexual overtones in songs are becoming more and more vivid, to which the singer replied that “It’s a private matter for everyone whether to show their butt to the public or not”. Although, I must admit, Rita has it – just right. In general, it is worth noting that all her comparisons with Rihanna and Beyoncé appeared for a reason. Dark skin, appetizing shapes, handsome, a pleasant voice and incredible confidence in one’s own sexuality – high-quality commercial pop, within which, it seems, a certain format has already been built. But Rita is still not the second Rihanna and not the third Beyoncé. Rita Ora is Rita Ora, if only because she is British of Albanian origin. She definitely has her own personality, which helped her successfully stand among the American beauties and take her place in the music world.

Here in Russia, Rita has an incredible army of young fans who will grow up with her. Which will await her second album, and third, and fourth. She will love or dislike her musical experiments, will copy her style and manner of dressing, and will also look forward to her next visit to the country with a full-fledged show program.

It is worth noting that this is not the first such concert organized on the initiative of HP, which annually invites the most popular artists to the capital according to users of the HP Connected Music platform. Last year, for example, the Americans Far East Movement visited Moscow. Well, now another star is taking over the baton from Rita Ora, whose name is still being kept secret...

Yulia Antonova, specially for MUSECUBE

SNCMedia: Hello! Congratulations on the upcoming release of your new album with Warner Music. How do you feel about this?

Rita Ora: Oh thanks! I also can’t believe that it’s like this hard work left behind. I worked with many interesting and talented people from Boston and London during the recording of the album. I don’t know how others will appreciate it, but I myself am very pleased with how it turned out, I gave it my 100%.

SNCMedia: The album is still on the way, but I have already listened to the first single, Your Song, and it is truly a song worth the wait. How would you describe her?

Rita: When I write a song, it's a kind of therapy for me, so I try to open up completely. This single was no exception.

SNCMedia: But the song is about love, about mutual love and therefore endlessly pleasant. Were you in love when you recorded it?

Rita: Well, sorry, this is a personal question! I will say this: I was in love with life!

SNCMedia: I heard that Ed Sheeran himself had a hand in some of the recordings. What was it like working with him and can we expect any collaborations between you and him?

Rita: This album is primarily dedicated to my work, and not to other stars. But working with Ed was fun. And of course, I was charged with his talent and creativity. When you work with such people, you feel incredible pride.

SNCMedia: You are lucky to work with talented people! Here's Tyra Banks on America's Next Top Model ( Rita was the host in the 23rd season of the program, if anything) managed to grab...

Rita: Tyra is a legend in the flesh. She taught me to be comfortable in front of the camera and never lose my sense of confidence. This show gave me a lot of new things, so it was especially sad to leave.

SNCMedia: I think you weren’t sad for long, because you’ve already been a host in another reality show that just started showing on ABC. This Boy Band show is about the creation of a new boy band.

Rita: This show is about making dreams come true. And it’s also nice to take part in it because Nick Carter, Timbaland and Emma Bunton are on the jury. Believe me, these guys know how to dig up a diamond and reveal all the facets of his talent.

SNCMedia: And your talent (another one) is stylish outfits. And few of your images are ignored; you are always commented on. How do you feel? And how do you answer to haters?

Rita: Well, yes, this happens. But the best policy here is not to respond and ignore such things.

SNCMedia:? And will you please the Russian army of fans with your concert?

Rita: The fans are my everything, I’m ready to do anything for them. So I want to thank them again for their support and confess my love. In November I’m going on a tour in support of the new album and will definitely stop by Russia. No details yet, but you're definitely on my list!
