Type-Moon was founded in 2000 by illustrator Takeshi Takauchi and screenwriter Kinoko Nasu. Their first project was the light novel Kara no Kyoukai, published back in 1998. The novella turned out to be dark, philosophical and difficult for the average reader to understand, which is why sales were low. But Type-Moon got noticed and they got money.

Subsequently, the two friends decide to move up a level and write their first visual novel, Tsukihime (2000). The visual novel turned out to be as dark and philosophical as KnK, but on the plus side there were elements of comedy and hentai. The visual novel received fairly high praise in the press, and three years later it was filmed as a TV series.

Thanks to Tsukihime Type-Moon they earned more more money and threw all their energy into creating their Opus Magnum - Fate/stay night (2004). The experience gained from past projects was not in vain. FSN had everything at once. Philosophy, darkness, comedy, as well as a huge, well-developed universe, with its own laws and history. The success was phenomenal. The sales record was broken on the first day. Type-Moon resurfaced and created a franchise, releasing sequels, prequels and spin-offs. Since then, three anime series and one film have been released in the universe, which in essence is a brief retelling events of the second route. In 2017 they promise to release a series based on the PSP game Fate/EXTRA and a film based on the third route of the original novel.

The plot of all works takes place in the same universe, which fans nicknamed “Nasuverse” in honor of the main screenwriter of Type-Moon. The world of Nasuverse is very similar to ours, but with one difference - it contains magic and enchantment, carefully hidden from ordinary people. Some characters from various short stories are interrelated with each other.

Student high school Emiya Shiro becomes an unwitting participant in the so-called “Holy Grail War”, which takes place from time to time in the Japanese city of Fuyuki. This is the struggle of seven magicians for the possession of a legendary artifact - the Holy Grail, which will fulfill any desire of the winner and, thus, change his fate.

Every mage, from the moment he begins to participate in the war, summons a servant - one of the great heroic souls of the past or future - to fight on the side of his master. The battle is fought until only one pair of master and servant remains. Emiya Shiro vs. of one's own will calls upon a swordswoman who has set herself the goal of getting to the Grail by any means. However, he does not want to participate in the battle. Emiya begins to be helped by Rin Tohsaka, a powerful magician who studies at the same school as Shiro. But the rules of the Holy Grail War indicate that sooner or later they will have to fight each other, and the most likely outcome for the loser is death.

"I have a secret that I haven"t told you... I"m a Magi"
-Emiya Kiritsugu

Fate/Stay Night is a graphic (visual) novel from the Type-Moon studio, also known for Tsukihime, Kara no Kyokai, and the Melty Blood series of fighting games. The novella was published in 2004 and became the beginning of a whole series of works.

Everything starts somewhere

So, an Ordinary Japanese Schoolboy...
... but no, the schoolboy is still not quite ordinary, but with an interesting ability to see things from the inside and fix them without taking them apart. Repair a heater, for example, or a kettle. Hard to call it a superpower, right?
So, this schoolboy was driven by some incomprehensible impulse to go to school at night and stumble upon two big guys who had just decided that school yard at night is the best place in the world to find out who is the toughest. Naturally, Emiya could not help but get the first number, from which he suddenly died on the spot... WOULD HAVE, if he had not been revived in time by a student of the same school who arrived in time. After which a blonde in shining armor appeared to the already rather stunned hero and suddenly declared that she would fight on his side, and that he was her Master.
This is where the novella itself begins. And everything above is just a backstory, nothing more.

Are you my Master?..

Characters

Almost all the heroes of the game have one thing in common: they are Masters. Overlords. Magi.
Each of them is subordinate to one of the seven Servants: Saber, Archer, Berserker, Rider, Lancer, Caster, Assassin. All Servants are the spirits of great heroes of the past, present, and sometimes the future.

Main character, part-time is not at all an ordinary Japanese schoolboy -

Servant -

By chance (or was it not by chance?) who found herself next to the defeated Emiya, an equally unusual schoolgirl -

Servant -
A sweet little girl who came from nowhere and is clearly obsessed with bloodlust -

Servant -

But not all heroes are Mages; there are also ordinary people among them. For example, Emiya's friend, the personification of kindness, modesty and purity,

Gameplay

Graphic novels can quite rightly be compared to picture books: the entire gameplay consists of reading text on the screen, which is accompanied by images illustrating it. The text is also often spoken out loud, and the images are animated, but this depends on the specific novel. Graphic novels are usually distinguished from books by several components:
Firstly, this is the plot. In short stories, sometimes everything is so twisted and confusing that not every book can stand it. (an exception, perhaps, is "Game of Thrones...")
Secondly, it is interactivity and, as a consequence, nonlinearity (some short stories, however, are quite linear).
And thirdly... this is hentai. Erotica. Historically, many people equate the genre of graphic novels with erotic novels: this is not entirely fair, but it is often justified.

Specifically, now we are talking about Fate/Stay Night: the volume of text in it, according to translators’ calculations, exceeds the volume of all three volumes of The Lord of the Rings. The text is accompanied by beautiful illustrations and perfectly chosen voices of the actors (naturally, the characters speak Japanese). Interactivity is manifested in the fact that at certain moments in the narrative the player needs to choose the hero’s action from several options. In practice, almost all choices in the game come down to the same thing: the hero either safely moves on to the next episode, or gives up his life... and ends up in Tiger Dojo- an unusually executed system of hints, where they popularly explain to him, as a poor student, what he did wrong this time. There is eroticism in the game, and it is very organically woven into the plot.

Plot

Intrigues are woven around the hero; among the Masters there is a struggle for life and death, with the simplest idea: winner takes all.
The plot of the novel revolves around the servant Emiya Saber(that blonde in shining armor), as well as the events taking place in the city. The hero finds out what is happening, who the magicians and Servants are, and why he himself became a Master. As the story progresses, it will become clear who Saber really is, why she became his Servant and her goal and role in everything that is happening.
Thump-thump-thump, in reality 10 hours have passed, and there are several days and fights in the game, and it seems like it’s already over.
By the way, an anime series was based on the game and it ends at the same place

But! After the ending, the hero suddenly finds himself in the already probably familiar Tiger Dojo, where he learns that if “you try to replay everything again, but at one very specific moment choose not option A, but option B...”

... unknown to death; not known to life...

... and this is where the game blossoms in all its glory, because it begins completely different story. The plot and characters are the same, but the events develop, one might say, perpendicular to the previous story: the emphasis shifts, the characters demonstrate different character traits. The focus suddenly comes into focus on the hero Rin Tohsaka (a girl with a very bad character) and her Servant Archer. And the main antagonist becomes... become... no, I won’t do any spoilers here.

After reading the second story, the player will receive answers to many remaining questions: a deeper and more detailed history of the battles will open before him, the essence of Archer will finally become clear (oh, how many topics about this have arisen on the Internet after the release of the anime), and much more. And, of course, the constant scenes of the hero’s death due to a wrong choice.
The second story, by the way, is no longer entirely linear: it has two possible endings.
Anime OVA based on the second part, like separate work It's almost pointless to watch. But the anime performs the role of illustrating the events taking place in the novel 10 out of 10.

I"m going to hurt you, Senpai

And now, after reading the second story, it becomes clear that Fate/Stay Night is actually a matryoshka game. Because after the second, a third story opens, this time the last one, but also with two endings.
I won’t say anything about the third story, except that in it everything that the player already knows is turned upside down. Things are revealed that were difficult to even think about, but it finally becomes more or less clear what kind of mess is brewing here and who is really the instigator of all this disgrace.
If after reading the first two stories it seems that the game is dark, don’t even start the third - it will plunge you into the depths of cruelty, hopelessness and despair. But everything will end... well, either well or not so well (in the third story, unlike the first, the player’s actions throughout the story are responsible not only for the hero’s survival, but also for the ending he will come to). As usual, the emphasis is shifted, new character traits are revealed... and... read.

Resume

I learned about the Fate/Stay Night novel quite by accident after watching the anime - wondering who Archer was, because he was the only Servant whose story was not revealed in the anime. Fortunately, at that time the novella had already been translated into English...
Almost a week was lost from my life. I woke up, read, went to bed, woke up again and read further: it was summer and I was on vacation. Having already completely read the entire novel, I found a time counter in it: it showed three days and an hour and a half, for a total of almost 75 hours. It was impossible to break away.
This novella is without a doubt the best I have ever read in terms of execution; the plot in it has no equal. Fate/Stay Night is a true masterpiece that I highly recommend checking out if you consider yourself a fan of anime, graphic novels, or just fantasy stories.
The story of Fate/Stay Night is closely related to two works:
Fate/Hollow Ataraxia is a graphic novel, a continuation of the story of Fate/Stay Night. Translation of the game to English language close to completion.
Fate/Zero is a prequel to the story, released in the form of a light novel, which was adapted into an excellent anime.

Description

You can download Fate/stay night via torrent here, it is a fantastic game that takes place in modern Japan. The game is one of the most popular and most famous visual novels ever created in the Country cherry blossoms. The Type-Moon studio, specializing in adventure production, is responsible for its creation. Fate/stay night was the third installment of the developer's career and her first major commercial success, resulting in numerous spin-off projects as well as books, comics, serial and corporate adaptations.

Fate/stay night stay can be classified as an urban fantasy. It is set in modern times, mostly in the fictional Japanese city of Fuyuki. The script draws ideas from Celtic, Greek, Japanese, Persian mythology, etc., which are combined in an original way, giving players a vision of a world inhabited by magicians. The main character of the title is a student high school Shiro Emiya, who accidentally becomes one of the participants in a particular magic tournament. In fact, this is a ceremony to create the grail, a powerful artifact that can satisfy all wishes. This traditionally happens every few years in the city of Fuyuki, and its initiators are three powerful families of magicians. All participants must recruit a magical servant belonging to one of seven classes, who is a hero from myths or legends around the world. The assistant must then eliminate competition to gain the right to use the artifact. During Shiro's rivalry, he gains allies, dangerous enemies, knowledge of his past and future, as well as the secrets and nature of the grail.

Fate/stay night is a typical visual novel in which gamers spend most of their time reading script scripts enriched with music, illustrations, animation and recorded dialogue. At critical moments in the action, we are asked to make a decision for the hero, which will result in one of many paths being chosen, leading to different goals. The game consists of three individual parts, entitled Fate / stay night, Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel, depicting three alternative versions of the same story. The complete indifference of the text contained in them corresponds to several hundred pages, and if we add to the fact that the authors made several dozen different goals in the title, we can be sure that it will provide entertainment for long hours. Another highlight is the Destiny World Encyclopedia, which includes, among other things, hero profiles as well as a graphics gallery.
