How to install psp games with firmware. How to install games on PSP

Installing licensed games on PSP will not be difficult for any user of this miniature but quite powerful console. Their installation is similar to any other application. If you find yourself on this page, then most likely you want to know how to force the set-top box to read ISO and other images from flash media. We will describe the solution to this problem in detail in the body of this article.

PSP firmware
Before rushing to the Internet for images of new games, it is worth determining what firmware is installed on your console, and as a result, what games will run on it. To find out the necessary details:

  • turn on psp with the appropriate button;
  • go to “Settings”;
  • open the submenu “System Settings” -> “Information”;
  • look at the “System software” line and rewrite the specified values as accurately as possible (they will be useful in the future).
Now some information about the firmware itself, which can be factory or “custom”. The first ones were created by the hands of official developers and are installed on the console directly by the manufacturer. Such software will not allow you to run third-party games obtained from the Internet or other sources. Therefore, private enthusiasts and the fan community created custom firmware that gives the PSP owner the ability to open applications from a flash card. How to distinguish one firmware from another? You can either search for information online using the symbols you have on hand, or take a closer look at them yourself. If in the recorded number from the “System Software” section the letters come after the numbers, your firmware is custom, you can proceed to search and install games. If not, you will have to limit yourself to licensed copies or reflash the psp (on your own or in specialized service centers). It should be kept in mind that game developers are constantly improving software protection, so not all games will run on specific firmware; you will have to reflash them several times.

Installing a game on psp with custom firmware
If you have figured out the type of firmware and found games for it, it’s time to install them. Usually, the topic of the author who distributes the game may already have clear recommendations for installing the program. We follow them or the general guide below:

  • Connect the PSP to the computer with a USB cable. Go to “Menu” -> “Settings” -> “USB Connection” so that the PC recognizes the device as a flash drive.
  • If the game is archived, first unzip it on your computer.
  • For firmware 3.xxOE and M33: files with ISO or CSO extensions are placed in the ISO folder, which is located in the root directory of the card.
  • If the folder does not exist, you can create it manually or by formatting the media through the console itself.
  • If the game is in EBOOT format, put it in the root directory along with the folder in which it is located.
  • For the image to run, you need to connect it to the PSP UMD drive (or enable the “Use NO-UMD” function for games that this mode support).
  • The final stage: go to “GAME” -> “Memory Stick” and (if everything is done correctly) we see the connected game. Click on it with the “X” button to launch.
  • PSX games must be placed not in the root directory, but in /PSP/GAME/.

PSP (PlayStation Portable) is a portable console from Sony, which is also a mobile prototype of the more famous PlayStation console. Despite the fact that the PSP is no longer in such great demand as before, and is being pushed out of the gaming market by the more modern PS Vita model, developers continue to release games for the old console, delighting gadget owners. However, how to download games on PSP?

Method one: PlayStation Network

PlayStation Network is an online service from Sony where you can purchase and download games for the portable console. The assortment is built in such a way that in a few clicks you can find all the games released for your gadget.

  1. After launching PlayStation Network, select the games you are interested in, pay and download the application distribution kit to your computer’s hard drive, after specifying the folder for downloading files. Some projects come with free demo versions: you will have the opportunity to evaluate the game, gameplay and content before purchasing it.
  2. Make sure there is enough memory on the Memory Stick Duo free space. Insert the card into the port at the bottom left of the console, go to the Game menu and open the Memory Stick tab. The window that appears will display information about the free memory on the card.
  3. Connect your PSP to your personal computer via USB or mini-USB.
  4. The console must be connected in USB mode. To do this, select the appropriate item from the drop-down menu and confirm your choice.
  5. Copy downloaded games to your PSP memory card. By default, all games should be located in the GAME folder, which is located on the portable console. The download process can vary from a few minutes to a couple of hours - it all depends on the amount of data being downloaded.
  6. Disconnect your console from your computer and disable USB mode. From the PSP main menu, open the "GAME" tab and open the Memory Stick option. To see the downloaded files, click the "X" button.

Method two: torrent trackers and portals

Of course, not every PSP owner will want to pay a huge sum for one game. Today, many advanced users of personal computers have learned to “hack” the factory firmware of gadgets, which allows them to use not only licensed, but also “pirated” games, removing all restrictions.

In such cases, you can download games to the PSP using a USB cable:

  • Insert the Memory Stick Duo into the Portable PlayStaton port and make sure you have free memory.
  • Connect your PSP to your personal computer using a USB or mini-USB cable.
  • Transfer the downloaded files to the GAME folder, which is located on your portable console.

Note: There are practically no differences between the first and second methods of downloading games. Home distinguishing feature is where exactly you will download applications for the portable console and how you will install and launch games on the gadget.

Select the application, pay for it with a plastic card (payment instructions are on the website), with mobile phone or using promotional codes.
  • Download a paid app or game to your PSP. In the store, in addition to the programs themselves, there are dozens of add-ons for them, making the gameplay even more interesting and exciting.
  • In the age of developed information technology Not every owner of a portable gaming console from Sony will want to give their hard-earned money to purchase a game. Despite the rapid development of the gaming industry, game and application developers ask for astronomical amounts of money for their products, without giving the opportunity to even partially familiarize themselves with the capabilities of the game. However, owners of a portable console can do without purchasing a disc with the game.

On the original firmware of the gadget, it is impossible to directly launch the game directly from the memory card (when the disk is not in the device drive), but if you use the modified firmware, you will solve this problem.

Step 1: original firmware. To modify your console, you need to make sure that the original (official) firmware is installed on it, version 5.03. In this case, the version should not be lower than the specified one, otherwise you will need to install specifically 5.03, since early or later versions of the firmware do not support upgrading. The official operating system 5.03 is freely available on the official website of the developers. Connect PSP to PC. To do this, you will need the sync cable that came with the console. Open the memory card, then go to the address PSP - GAME. Open the UPDATE folder (if it doesn’t exist, create it manually). Unpack the pre-downloaded archive.

Step 2: install the official firmware. Open the extracted folder and copy the eboot.pbp file to the created UPDATE folder. Disconnect the console from your personal computer and go to the GAME - MEMORY CARD directory on the console itself. Scroll through the list of files until you find the firmware file from the developers. Launch it. Follow the brief instructions and wait until the installation of the official firmware is completed, after which the console should reboot.

Step 3: Firmware upgrade. Download the ChickHEN program. The archive with the program will contain a folder with the name of the consoles. You need to select the version of the console you are using. Run the file that has the extension .exe and reconnect the PSP to the computer. In the dialog box, you need to click the “OK” button and all the necessary files will be copied to the PSP memory card automatically. From the ChickHEN archive, you need to copy the ChickHEN mod 2 folder and move it to the Pictures folder, which is located on the console’s memory card. Next, go to the PSP menu and open photos. Scroll through the pictures until the console reboots. Next, download the modified GEN-C firmware and transfer it to the memory card at PSP - GAMES. You must launch the firmware from the GAME menu. The console will reboot.

Please note that rebooting the console may not start the first time. On average it takes about ten attempts, since it all depends on the model of your gadget.

Step 4: Games. This completes the modification of the portable console firmware. To download games, you just need to connect the PlayStation Portable to your personal computer and copy the games to the folder at PSP - GAME. Next, you need to disconnect the portable console from the PC and select the game you are interested in in the GAME menu and press the START button.

Instructions for installing ISO and CSO games for PSP:

How to launch *ISO And *CSO games on PSP?

To do this you must have ( M33, GEN, or Prometheus), preferably latest version.

For GEN, M33 and Prometheus firmware
    1. First download to ISO or CSO format. The game may be in the archive ( .rar, .zip, .7z)
    2. We remove from the archive the game itself (image) whose format is ( ISO or CSO).
    3. Drop the game into the folder X:/ISO/ in the root of the memory card (where X-your memory card). If there is no such folder, then we create it ourselves, or better yet, format the memory card via PSP, and all the folders will appear.
    4. Go to GAME - Memory Stick and there is your game. Click X and enjoy the game!

    * If games on the PSP do not work, insert any disc with the game (you can also have a demo) into the UMD drive so that the game can run. You can also find it in the menu RECOVERY enable function Use NO-UMD (Configuration - Use NO-UMD), does not work with all games, so if you have at least one disc, do not enable this mode.

Instructions for installing PSX (games from PS1 console) games for PSP:

You must have (GEN, M33 or Prometheus) installed, preferably the latest version.

For GEN, M33 or Prometheus firmware
    1. First download.
    2. Remove the folder with the game files from the archive.
    3. Drop it into the X:/PSP/GAME/ folder in the root of the memory card. If there is no such folder, then we create it ourselves.
    4. Go to GAME - Memory Stick and there is your game. Press X and enjoy the game!

    POPSLoader:
Unfortunately, some games only run on 3.52 M33, and some only run on 3.71 M33. Therefore, we need to provide ourselves with the opportunity to choose required method to run every PSX game.
To do this we need to download POPSLoader (already contains the ability to use the PSX download method selection from 3.52 and 3.72). After downloading, unpack the contents of the archive into the root (top) directory of your memory card. If asked about the need to replace files, agree.
Now we go to Recovery mode on the PSP (read how to do this in this article) and in the Plugins section, activate the popsloader plugin (Enabled should be written next to it). This will allow you to select the required kernel when launching a PSX game.

    Copying PSX games to PSP:
You must unpack the archive with the game into the PSP/GAME folder of your memory card. As a result, the full path to the game should look like PSP/GAME/Game Name/EBOOT.PBP
The game is launched from the Memory Stick menu > Memory card

Selecting a PSX game download method:
Now, when downloading a game from our catalog, you should pay attention to the “Download Method” item. If this item only costs 3.52 POPS, then we need to use 3.52 firmware files to run this game. Fortunately, we don’t need to reflash it every time; POPSLoader will do all the dirty work for us.

    How does POPSLoader work?
When you first launch each PSX game, you will be asked to select a launch method (only items 3.52 and Original from flash work. If the game requires 3.52, select item 3.52. If the game requires 3.72, select Original from flash. After the first launch, the system will remember your choice, and will no longer pester you with this question about this game.
If for some reason you want to change the loading method, simply hold down the right trigger (R Shift) while loading a PSX game and make the desired selection again.
If you don't see a choice of download method at all, it means you haven't activated the plugin (read above).

    Helpful Tips:

    * Perhaps the original size of the picture will seem too small to you, so you have the opportunity to stretch it to fill the entire screen by pressing HOME (after starting the game) and selecting the menu item Settings -> Screen Mode -> Full Screen
    * As for the controls, you can also customize them as you wish using the Assign Buttons menu item.
*When playing multi-disc versions PSX games We have a new menu item - Change disk. As a rule, it is inactive until the system prompts you to insert another disk.
