"Dot, line, stroke, spot." Drawing with gel pen. Doodling, zentangle. Sketching people with a fountain pen How to ruin a fountain pen

Linara Rinatovna Dvorskaya

Good day, dear colleagues!

To the helium drawings pens I got addicted this year. In - first helium a pen is always at hand, it does not need to be sharpened, it does not scratch paper and lines as if they were sliding across paper.

There are technical drawings doodling and zentangle, but for now I’m drawing texture and texture, the ornament I saw in the objects around me. It’s very interesting and exciting, you constantly look at everyday things and see beauty lines, indescribable drawings of nature.

When you look at the leaves, you can easily notice numerous veins on each leaf, especially distinct and raised on the underside of the leaf.

Wherever you are, there is so much material for the imagination. Stones, leaves, flowers, bricks, cobwebs, buildings, wallpaper on the wall, carpets on the floor, tree bark, etc. etc.

I draw all the time and in kindergarten too, the children began to notice my new hobby and got carried away drawing textures and textures of objects. At the beginning they redrew my sketches, and then they began to notice and paint what you see is beautiful. This has become a passion for our group. First observing with the children and then working on the sketch.

Here are a few such works:

Unfortunately for me, I don’t have photographs of children’s works, I didn’t have a camera with me, and my girls immediately took their creations home.

Please don't judge harshly if lines the sketches are not very accurate, drew on small pieces of paper, and at home I pasted them into an album.

I hope you enjoyed this hobby.

Who wants it?
Drawing and ink from scratch

I will start this post with “wanting”, because in the matter of acquiring the ability to draw with a pen/pen, personal desire is even more important than talent and thin. skills.
Typically, drawing in any other technique begins with pencil construction, corrections, possibly changing the composition in the process, and therefore active use. In general, no one bothers you to make a pencil construction according to all the rules for drawing with a pen/pen, but this post is just about how to learn to do without it.

First of all, those who want to learn how to draw “without an eraser” should have patience, a small amount of time (but every day!) and a lot of desire. Why do I attach such importance to desire? Because very often, especially at first, you will be disappointed in your work, and as a result, in yourself, in your skills, and only desire will prevent you from throwing this whole thing out of your hands and deciding that you can do it without this skill. live in peace.
Below, I will show some techniques that will help you get a normal result, and also give examples of errors and unsuccessful work, which you shouldn’t be afraid of at all. I hope all this will help maintain the desire to learn and prevent feelings of inferiority from appearing =)

So, the tools:
Handles. You can draw with ballpoint pens, gel pens, or something else. Now I prefer to draw, but at first it was either ink or liners.
I had to draw with reusable “Uni pin” fine line liners, but apparently they are either for smoother paper, or we didn’t agree with them in Feng Shui, but their rod wears out faster than the refill runs out. We only refilled them once, and that was when Leo was writing in his notebook and not drawing. Perhaps they are not erased, and the rod goes away when pressed into the body, but the result is the same. The most popular sizes are 0.1 and 0.2, sometimes I use 0.3, but that’s when I don’t have 02, and very rarely 0.05 for particularly small details, when I even decide to draw them.

The liners from Faber Castell are very similar to the “Uni pin”, one of the series even has the same cases, only the inscription is different (I don’t have them now, so the photo is from a different series)

Another option is Centropen liners. They are one and a half times cheaper than "Uni pin" and two times cheaper than "Faber Castell", they are not inferior in quality, the rod still goes out, perhaps a little slower. The only difference is that they are disposable, but considering the fact that the rest are thrown away before refilling, the savings are not bad.

On at the moment Leo gave up on liners - at such a cost, it turned out that it would be cheaper to buy and forget about the problems with the rods.

Paper. Unlike drawings, it’s most convenient for me to draw with a pen in notebooks - all the waste paper is together, it doesn’t get lost anywhere and is always at hand. For works and ink I use, and for liners I have a cheap Chinese notebook with paper of average quality, so that it would not be a pity, because the paper goes out in reams, and the drawings there, for the most part, are not the kind that you should be proud of right now.

The paper is grayish, with a density of 98 g/m2, which is quite enough for double-sided drawings.
When I've copied this notebook, I'll switch to good ones with white beautiful paper and pleasant bindings that have been waiting for me for a long time =)

Now we take the tools in our hands and start drawing.
Basic rules/tips:
1. draw anything: objects on the table, furniture in the room, chandelier, interior, view from the window, flowers on the windowsill, etc. or from photographs (animals, birds, people, but don’t get too carried away with photographs, the main thing is nature)
2. draw without construction as it turns out: clumsily, with errors, extra lines, compositionally incorrect, etc.
3. at first it is better to take a thinner pen so as not to blacken too much
4. you need to draw lines quickly, not tremble over every millimeter (at first there will be 1000 of them and 1 line, then only 1)
5. every day. Even the most deadly person can find 10-15, even 30 minutes of time and devote it to drawing. busy man, everything else is excuses and lack of that very desire. Leo knows very well and first-hand what deadly busyness is (1 job, 2 hack jobs, full-time study + diploma - and Leo had this). Therefore, I ask you not to write to me in PM and comments, they say, “I would love to, but I don’t have time,” there is simply no desire and there is laziness, and there is no need or point in notifying me about this - it’s not impressive, it doesn’t evoke pity or sympathy.
6. Before evaluating the result of your work, you need to copy 100 pages, no less. At the time of creating this post (08/26/2011), I had 101 pages copied, I draw on both sides of the sheet, fortunately, the thickness of the paper allows it, and there is no point in putting each such work in a frame. Many pages have 2-3 small drawings.
7. how to help yourself not to be lazy: always carry a pen with you. When you are sitting somewhere: in a cafe, park, in line, at home, with friends, etc. - take it out and put it next to you. The brain will get used to the constant potential opportunity to draw and will take advantage of this opportunity =)

How to make your life easier at first:
You can build a drawing with dots. Actually, the construction is more in the mind than on paper, but by putting a point in some key place, we create a visual support for ourselves

Connecting the dots

Now you can tint and detail, but in sketches of this type, this is unnecessary. Here it is important to convey shape, movement, and somewhere to emphasize the volume with a careless touch.
I have no more than 10 completed works in my entire notebook.

Most often my ducks look like this

The main mistakes that will definitely be:
500 lines, when you want to draw one - patience, my friend, everything will happen, but not right away.
Problems with the composition, crawling out of the sheet or too much space from some edge. To avoid this, you can at the very beginning mark the extreme points of the object, at least by eye

Disproportionality (it turned out to be a very beaked duck). Heals with time and practice

Incorrect perspective, general clumsiness (here the perspective is lame on all four legs, the verticals are generally gloomy)

The jar of honey has gone crazy

What is necessary and useful to draw:
Interior - no matter where you live, you can always draw what it looks like without even getting up from the sofa/chair/armchair/bed

All sorts of items household appliances, dishes and so on (above there was a meat grinder - this is the most brutal, especially in different angles).
Just a box

If you have one, you can draw a pet from different angles when it is static (you also need to draw it in dynamics, but this is more difficult and later)

It is good to draw indoor plants in such a way as to convey their volume and make the appearance of the plant clear.
Leo's houseplant is oak, it's so obvious =)

Who has indoor plants no, don’t be lazy and buy some flower, put it in a vase/glass and draw

It is also very useful to draw somewhere during a walk - we find a bench/stump, sit down and draw the first thing that catches our eye.
It is not necessary to draw every leaf, the most important thing is to convey the impression, the volume

Or you can draw it if the object is piecemeal

A good subject for drawing is any stone. We need to repeat the shape, convey the texture, and not lose the volume (Leo still loses it from time to time)

Drawing from photographs.
Also good, but in moderation and quickly. Open the photo, spend 5-7 minutes on it and move on to the next one

This way you can draw something that is not found in everyday life, all kinds of animals and birds.

Leo likes to take photographs of ducks in Vinnitsa and somewhere on ponds, and then in the evenings he draws them in detail or just as a sketch

The black and red musk duck drake was so beautiful that Leo couldn’t resist going into details

In general, nothing difficult if you regularly devote time to practice.
If someone has problems with self-motivation and physically needs some kind of external kick in the form of: role model/ridicule, competition/mutual assistance, regularity - .
Good luck and best wishes to everyone who is interested! =)

Drawing techniques Zentangle, Doodling and Zendoodling.

Let's get acquainted with drawing techniques like Zentangle, Doodling and Zendoodling

I really liked the drawing technique; it is especially good (in my opinion) for those creative people who want to express themselves in drawing, but do not have classical skills.

Here, to achieve success, you need a lot of imagination and creativity and a minimum of drawing techniques, although spatial imagination will still be useful to us. The pictures are unusual and exciting; you can look at them and study them for a long time.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find information about these techniques in Russian, so I translated it from English sources (don’t judge my translation too harshly).

Zentangle is a small piece of art made with a fine tip pen and graphite to highlight light and shadow. It is compiled in a certain order. Take a square of watercolor paper and use a pencil to place 4 dots in each corner about half an inch from the border of the paper. Connect these points with a pencil border, which can be either smooth or curved (irregular). Inside the resulting frame, “lines” are drawn with a pencil, the so-called crazy lines. This divides the drawing area into sectors of different sizes and specific profiles. Take a fine fountain pen and fill the shape with a variety of repeating patterns. Once you've filled in the gaps, the pencil lines are erased and then shading is added to give the Zentangle shape.

If your drawing doesn't follow these guidelines, then it's not a Zentangle. Zentangle is an abstract design and can be viewed from any angle. If it has a recognizable image, such as a face or eyes or an animal, it is not Zentangle. However, it may well be stylized Zentangle or ZIA.

Doodle (translated as scribble) is a focused drawing made while a person's attention is occupied with something else. Doodles - simple drawings, which may have concrete representational meanings or may simply be abstract forms.

Stereotypical examples of drawing are found in school notebooks, often in the margins, made by students when they are daydreaming or losing interest during class. Other common examples of painting done over long periods of time telephone conversations, if you have a pen and paper at hand.

Popular types include cartoon versions, images of teachers or schoolmates, famous television or comic characters, fictional creatures, landscapes, geometric shapes and patterns, textures, banners with legends and animation scenes made in sequence on various pages of a book or laptop.

Zendoodling is a hybrid of Zentangle art with Doodling. Zendoodles often free form and has an abstract look sometimes with splashes of color.

It is not strictly called Zentangling because it does not use the "line" method, nor does it require black and white execution.
Zendoodles are created using black ink on any type of colored background, not necessarily white paper. The use of watercolors, pencils, chalk, markers, etc. is also allowed. at your discretion.

Remember school years Well, who hasn’t sinned by sketching something arbitrary on the back page of a notebook during a boring lesson. And if you had artistic abilities, this activity was captivating and was expressed in sketches of reality, caricatures and caricatures of your friends or teachers, funny pictures and so on. Funny, but nothing more.

If we turn to classical drawing methods, then a ballpoint pen has never been considered a tool for creating drawings. And as it turned out, it was in vain. Contemporary artists who freed their consciousness from stereotypes, using ballpoint pens, achieve amazing effects. The pictures come out rich in color, volume, living texture. Some of them resemble photographs when executed, others are similar to computer graphics highest quality, there are also those that look like an engraving.

Of course, to get such images you need to have talent and skills in working with a ballpoint pen. But you always need to start somewhere and try. Moreover, ballpoint pens in modern office supplies have acquired many new properties, you can choose pens with different thicknesses of the drawn line, various color shades have appeared in a fairly rich palette, the quality of the ballpoints in the refills allows you to draw without blots and unmarked areas.

To draw, you need to choose a good ballpoint pen that will not stain, that is, will release ink evenly from the refill. If the desired drawing should consist of lines of equal brightness and almost indistinguishable width, then use a gel pen. If you need halftones and the ability to vary the color intensity, then it is better to choose a ballpoint pen with regular ink.

When using a self-writing pen (that’s what a ballpoint pen was called when it was first invented) for drawing, keep in mind that ink consumption will be more intense than when writing, which means you need to prepare extra pens. One painting can use 3 to 4 standard ink refills.

And most importantly. An ink pen, unlike a pencil, does not allow mistakes; all strokes, lines and dots must be applied confidently and accurately, because the ink on the paper remains forever and cannot be corrected.

In addition, when using a ballpoint pen for drawing, you need to be extremely careful: the ink does not dry immediately, so if you accidentally press your palm or finger into fresh lines, it is easy to smear them or leave your mark. Not such a simple technology as it seemed in school lessons.

Now let’s look at the masterpieces produced by masters who are fluent in this technique.

English artist Andrea Joseph paints directly on notebook sheets, which is very reminiscent school creativity and sketches for cartoons or children's books.

Lucas Salgado from the Argentine city of Santa Fe draws his girls with a ballpoint pen without any special art education. This is what talent means, which can manifest itself even from simple ink lines.

Samuel Silva, a lawyer from Portugal, draws colorful ballon pictures of incredible realism and vividness that reflect not only all the shades of nature, light and shadow, the entire universe, but also all shades of emotion, volume and shape as if they were bright, accurate color photographs.

Abadidabou Sarah Esteje, a French artist who is a designer by profession and enjoys photography, creates stunningly realistic animal pictures using a blue ballpoint pen. Portraits also appeared among her works.

Juan Francisco Casas Ruiz spanish artist Born in La Carolina, Juan has a professional art education. One day he took an ordinary blue ballpoint pen and sketched a comic portrait in ink. This activity fascinated the young Spaniard so much that he created dozens of sketches of people in shades of blue ink, which in terms of the accuracy of their depiction of nature cannot be distinguished from photographs. Among these sketches there are many sensual and even erotic images of girls who happily become models for the original artist.

Chinese artist Zhuge Qingjia also draws only with a ballpoint pen, carefully drawing even the smallest details.

Tim Jeffs, a remarkable animal artist from the United States of America, depicts portraits of animals on paper, painted in the finest detail, and uses a ballpoint pen and black ink.

Extraordinary creativity, which can be classified as graphic realism, has enough followers and admirers and cannot but attract attention.

A fountain pen is an indispensable accessory. business man, which indicates his high status, but at the same time, an extraordinary personality. Many people may think that writing with a pen is inconvenient and they have to endure blots and drips on the paper, but this is not at all true. If you learn to use it correctly, you can amaze others with perfect handwriting and beautiful lines.

Today, lessons in writing with fountain pens are becoming mandatory in elementary school, as they reduce the load on the joints of the hand and prevent the development of their inflammation. By learning to hold a pen in their hands and move it on paper, schoolchildren develop patience and a love of beauty.

The difference between a fountain pen and a ballpoint pen

What is so wonderful about fountain pens that many people begin to prefer them. First of all, it’s the unforgettable feeling you experience when writing. Once you learn how to use it correctly, you will understand how primitive the ball-based ink supply mechanism is.

What are the differences between a fountain pen:

  • it is heavier than a ball one;
  • when writing there is no need to put pressure on her;
  • it does not strain the joints;
  • the line is clearer and smoother;
  • develops perfect handwriting;
  • writes at an acute angle;
  • the hand while writing is relaxed and lies on the paper.

It is enough to try this amazing stationery item once, and you will never exchange it for a simple ballpoint pen.

If you decide to buy a fountain pen

If you decide to get a pen, then choose your pen wisely. Remember that it will serve you for quite a long time, maybe more than a decade, if it is made of durable materials. Today there is a large selection in stores, and you are sure to find exactly your pen. Hold it in your hand, lean it against the paper, feel the body.

Then notice what it's made of. It is better to choose a metal case, although it is heavier. But if you are buying a pen for a student, give preference to plastic. The pen itself, of course, should be metal, maybe even gold or silver. But its tip, which is in direct contact with the paper, should be made of a more durable material, for example, iridium. Many people advise not to buy an expensive pen for the first time, but it is better to immediately buy a decent copy that will be of high quality and durable.

Also pay attention to whether the pen has a replaceable cartridge or a built-in one. The built-in one will help you save a lot on refueling, but the replaceable one is much easier to use. Pens have survived to this day, which, like in the old days, need to be dipped into an inkwell, but only a professional can “tame” them.

How to learn to write beautifully with a fountain pen

It’s not very difficult to get used to this task; it’s enough to set aside a few hours for it. To make writing comfortable, hold the pen between your middle, index and thumb so that it extends one and a half centimeters from the tip. Place your hand on the sheet and start leading straight line. You can apply a little pressure to the nib to feel the thickness of the writing change.

The angle between the paper and pen should be approximately 45 degrees, but you can change it to your liking. Withdraw curved lines, learn to write letters. The main thing is to take your time. Writing with a pen takes a little longer than with a ballpoint pen, but it is much more interesting and enjoyable.

There are many sites on the Internet with instructional videos where you can watch how to learn not only to write, but also to draw with a fountain pen. Believe me, real masterpieces come out of the artist’s hands.

Studying the mechanism of a fountain pen will help answer this question. It consists of a body with a cap, an ink reservoir and the pen itself. When you start writing, ink flows out of the cartridge, but in exactly the amount required for writing. When you stop, the leftovers come back.

When buying a pen, you can choose a nib thickness that will be comfortable for you, then you won’t have to press, adjust, or spoil the paper and nib. Focus on the letters on the case:

  • F – thin;
  • M – average;
  • B – wide.

Therefore, you should not be afraid that you will stain the paper, table and clothes, or that the pen will leak at the most crucial moment. Those times are a thing of the past. Today, manufacturers are worried about the quality of their products, as the demand for fountain pens is growing and competition is increasing.

Is it worth replacing a regular pen with a fountain pen?

What is the secret of the popularity of this stationery item? A simple fashion statement or something more. Everyone, without exception, starts writing with fountain pens and never returns to ballpoint or gel pens.

The secret is in their obvious advantages:

  1. Reduces stress on the hand. When you write with a ballpoint pen, you have to put pressure on it and hold it almost vertically, which puts the brush in an unnatural position. This property is also useful for prolonged typing on the keyboard, which is bad for the condition of the joints.
  2. By practicing writing with a pen, you acquire correct calligraphic handwriting. This will help solve the problem with incorrect inclination of letters and their clarity.
  3. You are developing fine motor skills. By doing something unusual for your hands, you activate many parts of the brain.
  4. Writing trains perseverance and attention. Learning to write with a fountain pen takes some effort, but once you get it you'll be delighted.
  5. Develop your creative abilities. Writing with a pen is not just about recording information. You involuntarily begin to draw letters to make them look more beautiful, develop your own unique style, and draw rather than write.
  6. Fountain pens attract attention. If you sign your name, you will undoubtedly attract the curious and admiring glances of those around you.

If you want to add variety and novelty to your everyday life, then learn to write with a fountain pen. Soon you will notice that such routine activities as filling out reports or signing forms will no longer bore you, but will bring you pleasure.

How to ruin a fountain pen

If you want your pen to serve you for a long time, then you need to not only buy a quality product, but also avoid the following mistakes:

  1. Punch the paper with a pen. Small particles will get into the ink supply mechanism and clog it. The tip itself will also deteriorate and will no longer write smoothly.
  2. Leave the handle open. Always cap the pen after use to prevent the ink from drying out.
  3. Do not clean the pen. Every time you change a cartridge or refill ink, place the pen under running water. It will clean the mechanism from dust, paper particles and dried ink.
  4. Drop the pen. Even with minor damage that is not noticeable to the eye, the pen can bend and stop writing.

A fountain pen is not a luxury; today it is available to everyone. Therefore, do not ignore the opportunity to learn how to write beautifully and correctly, train your mental and creative abilities, and simply get aesthetic pleasure.
