The most brutal cannibals in the history of the USSR and Russia. Hell of cannibals. the most terrible cases of cannibalism in the USSR and Russia

Cannibalism (or anthropophagy) is the eating of human flesh by people. If in ancient times the main cause of cannibalism was hunger, today it is a terrible mental disorder. According to psychiatrists, no one is safe from meeting a cannibal.

A seemingly ordinary married couple has been eating people for 20 years - this shocking news came from the Krasnodar region.

As police officers, the husband and wife abducted people, drugged them with ether and Corvalol, then killed them and ate them piece by piece. What they didn't eat was turned into canned food.

Reveal the cruelty married couple It was possible only after the husband lost his phone on the street - numerous photographs of mutilated corpses were found there. And at home, the cannibals kept recipes for cooking human flesh and the very canned food into which the killed people turned.

Presumably, the family of cannibals has 30 victims. Law enforcement officials have already been able to prove the involvement of cannibals in the deaths of seven people. There is no separate article for cannibalism in Russian legislation, but, probably, the crimes of the Krasnodar cannibals fit under the articles “Murder” and “Desecration of the bodies of the dead.”

If all 30 episodes are proven, then the crimes will be classified as murders with aggravating circumstances: preliminary conspiracy, premeditated murder, murder with extreme cruelty and, possibly, something else, explains lawyer Konstantin Trapaidze. - These people will be assigned a psychiatric examination. If she shows that they are sane, then the prosecutor's office will definitely request the highest penalty for them - life imprisonment. If the examination finds them insane, then they will face lifelong compulsory treatment in a psychiatric hospital.

Now this story is being dealt with by the Investigative Committee. Life found out whether it was possible to figure out in advance the cannibals hiding under the guise of a happy married couple.

Charming ogre

Cannibalism comes in different forms. This can be a way of survival (saving from hunger) or a ritual (sacrifice). All this was distributed in ancient world and in the Middle Ages. Nowadays, cannibalism is most often a form of mental disorder.

In 2016, scientists from Altai State University released a study on cannibals (available to Life). The work says that most cannibals had difficult childhoods and were subjected to psychological, physical or sexual abuse. Often the cause of cannibalism is a mental illness, most often schizophrenia.

Schizophrenics cannibals are very aggressive. " The suffering the cannibal endured as a child allows him to inflict suffering on other people; Trying to assert himself, he begins to kill and dismember people and feed on human flesh,” the study authors write.

As an example, scientists cite the story of one of the cannibals discovered in modern Russia - Igor Kuzikov. This is “a typical representative of homo anthropofagus - “human-eating man”.

Kuzikov was born into a dysfunctional family in 1961, suffered from schizophrenia, mental retardation, and, in addition, alcoholism. Despite his outward appearance of harmlessness, he was prone to aggression from his youth. He was treated, but in the early 1990s there was a collapse in psychiatry.

As a result, Kuzikov did not receive treatment in the hospital and did not take medication on his own. The criminal met homeless people and tramps on the street, brought them to his one-room apartment, killed and ate them. At the trial, the facts of murder by Kuzikov in 1994–1995 were proven. at least three people. The case materials record horrific details - the body of the last of the killed Kuzikov was dismembered and cooked into jellied meat.

There is a more perverted “direction” of cannibalism - these are cannibals who want to eat their victim because of sexual fantasies. The cannibal is tormented by a painful passion and desire to possess others. Cannibals claim that by eating their prey, they make it a part of themselves, thereby keeping it for themselves. As stated in the study, the most a shining example sexual cannibalism became the crimes of the most famous Russian maniac Andrei Chikatilo.

Chikatilo's cannibalism had a purely sexual meaning and was generated by his pathetic and unsuccessful attempts to acquire biological male status at least on a psychological level. Andrei Chikatilo has about 65 murders to his name, 36 of which involved cannibalistic tendencies. Chikatilo admitted that he disemboweled his victims in order to gain some kind of sexual pleasure. He did not do this out of revenge or hatred, it brought him peace of mind, the study says.

The study lists some signs of cannibals:

  1. IQ is below average - 65–80.
  2. Cannot have a university education.
  3. Non-standard sexual hobbies (perversion, fetishism).
  4. Aggressive within his family, he behaves with restraint in society.
  5. Closed
  6. Outwardly, a cannibal may look like a happy family man.
  7. Can seduce the victim, play with her, and easily gains trust.
  8. The cannibal has a predetermined image of the victim (age restrictions, gender, etc.).
  9. Returns to the crime scene to monitor the work of the police.

According to psychiatrist-criminologist Mikhail Vinogradov, it is impossible to calculate a cannibal using such a list of signs, just like any other.

- It is extremely difficult to recognize a cannibal from the outside. It will not be possible to identify obvious signs - we have many patients with schizophrenia or other mental disorders, but this does not mean that they are all cannibals, the expert noted.

The psychiatrist gave an example from his practice: in Soviet era The police caught a man who fed human flesh to his neighbors in a communal apartment. He killed people, brought home the meat and gave part of the spoils to his neighbors. He said that he works as a butcher at the market and these are leftovers that can be eaten. He ate most of it himself. And outwardly he was a very sympathetic, kind, somewhat reserved person. The neighbors were horrified when the crimes were revealed - the cannibal was caught red-handed while murdering one of his victims. As a result, he was shot.

As you can see, it was extremely difficult to recognize a cruel person in the killer based on external signs,” added Vinogradov.

According to the psychiatrist, cannibalism cannot be treated.

It is impossible to cure a cannibal - he will never voluntarily seek help because he does not believe that he is doing anything wrong. The patient’s condition can be maintained with sedatives and isolation, but the craving for cannibalism, if it has already arisen, cannot be eliminated. If such people are released after serving their sentences, they will continue their atrocities,- he explained.

Cannibal subculture

In Soviet times, they tried not to cover stories about cannibals so as not to sow panic, said Mikhail Vinogradov. Now all these shocking stories are easily leaked to the media. Some people abroad are even trying to make money from this.

For example, in 2010, the media wrote about the opening of a “restaurant for cannibals” in Berlin.According to the owners, food will be supplied to it by volunteers who want to donate their organs.

There are also those who are not averse to turning into a cannibal for a while for the sake of the show. In 2016, British TV presenter Greg Foot set out to taste human flesh (his own) live on air. He turned to doctors, who cut off a piece of muscle from him. The idea failed - according to British law, eating human flesh is prohibited.

In our country, there are known cases where cannibalism was associated with a passion for one or another youth subculture. In 2009, in St. Petersburg, two young men killed and ate their 16-year-old girlfriend. When the crime was solved, information leaked to the media that the killers considered themselves “goths” and “emos.” This caused a real explosion in the press and the Internet - people were sure that all “goths” and “emo” devour human flesh, they need to be isolated from society and treated.

Later, the investigation proved that the cruelty of the killers had nothing to do with these subcultures. It is unknown how many “emos” and “goths” suffered from the resulting bullying.

On the one hand, it’s good that the media began to cover this topic. Cannibalism is very dangerous, people must be protected. But you need to be careful with this topic - it can cause people’s unhealthy interest in this topic and provoke new crimes,” said Mikhail Vinogradov.

Cannibalism, as a way to satisfy hunger, is modern society, something alien and illegal. Those presented in this collection deliberately killed people in order to satisfy their irresistible desire to eat human flesh.

1. Dorangel Vargas

Vargas admitted to eating human organs but denied murder charges, saying the bodies were handed over to him already dead. This statement led to the hypothesis that Vargas was using the cover of illegally selling donor organs. Vargas said that he ate human organs like pears and he saw nothing wrong with eating human flesh. As a result, Dorangel was placed in a psychiatric clinic for life.

When the door was opened, they saw the victim dead. Maudsley's victim was a pedophile who was tortured and killed. His skull was opened and it was clearly visible that part of his brain was missing. The bloody spoon in the skull led the guards to believe Maudsley, who said he had eaten part of the victim's brain. He was found guilty of first-degree murder and sent to Wakefield Prison, where he soon killed two more men before being placed in solitary confinement.

In 1983, a special cell was built for Maudsley at Wakefield Prison, where he was kept under surveillance. He was prohibited from contacting people. He didn't see people anymore. The food was transmitted to him through the gap.

The police found Sagawa a week later. He was arrested and sent to prison, but two years later he was placed in a psychiatric clinic, where he wrote his memoirs. The memoir became a bestseller in Japan.

Sagawa was deported to Japan, where he underwent a mental examination and was found sane. Japanese justice had no claims against him, because France did not send necessary documents.

By 1986, he became a free man. Sagawa is known as the "celebrity man-eater" of Japan. He wrote many books, worked for some time as a restaurant critic, gave interviews and even starred in porn films.

8. Cannibals from Nithari

In the village of Nithari, India, 38 children disappeared between 2004 and 2006. The killer turned out to be the servant of a prominent local businessman named Kohli and the businessman himself. It was in the house that servants found 17 remains of children’s bodies in a slop pit. Kohli's servant admitted to killing six children and one adult, as well as sexually assaulting them, and he also admitted that together with the businessman they killed, raped and ate the organs of children.

The businessman's guilt was later proven. He also killed, raped, and ate the organs of children. It was also revealed that thanks to the businessman’s connections and money, the police turned a blind eye to the disappearance of children. The Indian Ministry of Security arrested and prosecuted the police officials who covered up this horror. Both were sentenced to death, but the businessman managed to receive an amnesty, but charges were immediately brought against him for other cases of murder and cannibalism against children.

9. Alfred Packer

Packer set out from Utah in 1873 with a group of men in search of gold. A snowstorm stopped their progress and the five men and Packer were forced to wait out the weather. But only Packer “survived” the blizzard, and in April 1874 he met with other travelers who had separated from the group before the blizzard. His story has changed several times. Packer claimed that his companions were forced by starvation to eat those who died from the cold, and he was the last survivor.

However, Packer misappropriated the property of one deceased man, which aroused the suspicion of the gold miners, and when the bodies were found, signs of a struggle were clearly visible. Afterwards, Packer began to claim that it was self-defense and confessed to the murder, but fled before the trial.

Only ten years later he was caught and found guilty of murdering only one person. He was released because... he admitted guilt, but later, in 1886, he was sentenced to 40 years for the murder of the others. He was freed by the governor of Colorado in 1907 and died a free man a few years later.

He sawed off his mother's legs, boiled them and ate them. He carried the remains out onto the balcony. It was winter and the body quickly froze. Albert invited Grace to his place for Thanksgiving. No one saw her again. Six years later, Albert sent a letter to the Budd family, explaining that he had kidnapped the girl to eat her, and described in detail how he had done this over ten days.

Based on the letter, the police identified the sender and arrested him. Fish confessed to the murder of Grace Budd, as well as the murder of 4-year-old Billy Gaffney in 1927. At the trial, he tried to show himself as mentally abnormal in order to avoid death penalty. But he failed... He later confessed to the murder of 8-year-old Frances McDonell in 1924. He was also suspected in a number of other cases of missing children, but the investigation did not receive evidence or confessions.

From the man who cooked and ate his own finger to the man who found his victim online, discover some of the worst cases of cannibalism.
Attention: It is better not to read this post for the faint-hearted and impressionable!

1The Japanese man who cooked and served his own genitals for $250 a plate

In 2012, a man in Japan removed his genitals and then marinated them before cooking them for five paying people. 22-year-old Mao Sugiyama, who is asexual, voluntarily agreed to have them removed. However, the illustrator took his frozen penis and scrotum home from the hospital and threw a gloomy party.

He charged guests $250 for the opportunity to eat a portion of his genitals in Tokyo, Japan. They were garnished with mushrooms and parsley. Before eating, guests listened to a piano recital and took part in a group discussion on the topic.
Mao, who goes by the nickname NS, initially considered eating his own penis - but decided to serve it to others instead. He prepared his penis himself, under the supervision of a chef. Using Twitter, he offered to cook his own penis for the evening's guests for 100,000 yen. However, he ultimately decided to split the "dinner" between six people.

A total of 70 people attended the event, which took place in the Suginami area of Tokyo. While five people ate Mao Sugiyama's genitals, the rest of the event guests ate beef or crocodile meat. Among the people who managed to "feast" on his genitals were: a 30-year-old couple, a 22-year-old girl, a 32-year-old man and 29-year-old Shigenobu Matsuzawa, a professional event organizer.

2The Australian woman who killed her ex-husband and served it to his children as dinner

Katherine Knight, the first Australian woman to be sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of appeal, had a history of violent relationships. She knocked out one of her dentures ex-husbands and slit the throat of another husband's eight-week-old puppy right in front of him. The rift in his relationship with John Charles Thomas Price became public after he filed a lawsuit for a "preventive violence order" against Knight.

In 2000, she stabbed Price 37 times with a butcher knife before skinning him and hanging his skin on a meat hook in her living room. She then beheaded him and placed his head in a pot on the stove, baked the flesh taken from his buttocks, and prepared vegetables and sauce as a side dish to serve to Price's children.

Luckily, police discovered the creepy dinner before the children arrived home.

3Punk rock man ate his own finger after he lost it in an accident

David Playpenz from Colchester, Essex was involved in a motorcycle accident in which he injured his arm. When he showed his hand to the doctors a few days later, one of the fingers was black, and they said that the finger needed to be amputated. Playpens agreed to the procedure and then asked doctors to give him the amputated finger so he could take it home. “Of course!” said the doctors, who had no idea what he was going to do with him.

As it turned out, 30-year-old Playpenz, who made leather furniture, had always been interested in cannibalism. “I've always wondered what human flesh tastes like. But it's taboo. It is impossible to be a cannibal - it is illegal. And then I realized that no one would drag me to court for eating my own flesh. I decided to cook my finger and eat it. Then my curiosity would be satisfied."

He happily photographed this significant moment for subsequent generations, preserved the bones and posted the entire event on his Facebook page, including a photo of the welded finger. Needless to say, Playpenz received some mixed reactions from his friends, but he was right about one thing - apparently, he would not be charged with any crime.

4. The cannibal who found his victim online

The horrific story of how a cannibal tracked down a person who had agreed to be eaten online and ate him would be enough to discourage anyone from using the Internet. Armin Miewes has harbored dreams of killing and eating humans since he was 12 years old. He said he once imagined himself sticking his high school friend into a barbecue grill and "slowly roasting him."

It took him 29 years and 430 email contacts for his dream to come true.

He searched for willing victims in chat rooms such as "Gourmet", "Cannibal Cafi" and "Eaten Up", posting an advertisement "looking for young, well-built men between the ages of 18 and 30 - for slaughter." The 41-year-old computer specialist eventually contacted 43-year-old Bernd Brandes. The Berliner, who was also a computer specialist, sold his car, wrote a will and took a day off from work to deal with what he called a "personal matter". He went to Meeves' home in Rotenburg, central Germany, where the couple agreed to cut off Brandes' penis.

Meeves cooked it with garlic, salt and pepper in a frying pan before both men ate it. He then filmed himself stabbing Brandes in the chest with a 30cm knife. “It was an indescribable feeling for me,” he admitted to police. He then cut approximately 29 kilograms of flesh from the body, which he labeled as "rump, steak, fillet, ham and bacon." He put all the parts in the refrigerator and kept them there for 7 months, taking out the parts from time to time and making a barbecue out of them in his garden.

His first course was a thigh steak cooked with garlic and muscatel wine, with a side dish of fried potato balls. vegetable oil and Brussels sprouts. He washed it all down with South African Cabernet. “I can’t even tell you how much the flesh tasted like pork,” Meavis told police. Police officers who searched his library found cookbooks on the subject of cooking human flesh among a video collection of Walt Disney cartoons. The books included recipes for making “penis in red wine” and “breaded young man’s liver.”

Meeves, who was arrested thanks to a tip from another contact who refused to be eaten in last moment, will be convicted under the article “premeditated murder”, since cannibalism is not on the list of crimes in Germany.

5The Naked Cannibal Who Was Killed By Police While Chewing Another Man's Face

In 2012, many television networks broadcast a story about how in Miami, Florida, police shot and killed a naked man who was literally eating the face of another naked man lying next to him on the side of the highway. One witness to this horrific incident described what he saw as “the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in my entire life.”

Rudy Eugene was killed by a police officer after he refused to step away from Ronald Poppo, who was left fighting for his life in hospital after being critically injured. The disgusting incident happened just off the MacArthur Causeway, almost on the doorstep of the Miami Herald building, and the newspaper's security cameras captured the entire event.

The police officer approached the man after a bystander signaled him with his hand and ordered him to move away from the man whose face he was eating. After he refused to follow the police officer's orders, the officer was forced to open fire and, according to witnesses, six shots were fired. Witness Larry Vega said, "I told him to back off, but the guy just kept eating the other man's face."

After the officer's colleagues called him a hero, Sergeant Altarr Williams, chief of the Miami Police Department's homicide unit, said people can be extremely dangerous without a gun.

6. A German tourist who was “eaten by cannibals” on one of the Pacific islands

A 40-year-old German tourist named Stefan Ramin, who had traveled to the Pacific island of Nuku Hiva, has gone missing and his remains were reportedly found near an extinguished fire belonging to a tribe that suspected of cannibalism. Mr Ramin stopped on the island during a sailing expedition with his 37-year-old girlfriend Heike Dorsch in 2011.

He met a guide, Henri Haiti, who took him ibex hunting, a widespread tradition on Nuku Hiva, 1,496 kilometers northeast of Tahiti and near the equator. However, when the guide returned alone, he told Miss Dorsch that there had allegedly been an accident before attacking her and tying her to a tree.

Miss Dorsch managed to escape and notify about the incident local authorities, who began to look for the guide, at the same time a DNA analysis was carried out on the remains found near the fire, which were believed to belong to a person. Among the finds found scattered around the fire were human bones, teeth, a skull jaw and partially melted pieces of metal believed to be tooth crowns.

7. Russian cannibals who ate their own brother

In 2009, two cannibals ate their brother's remains for six months in an attempt to cover up his murder. Brothers, 28-year-old Timur and 23-year-old Marat, admitted to killing their older brother Rafis, as well as eating him in one of the central Russian cities - Perm.

The police became suspicious when the brothers reported Rafis missing, but could not give clear information about their brother. After searching the brothers' house, the police discovered Rafis's skeleton, which the brothers completely cleaned of flesh and buried in the garden. Timur said he ate his brother because he did not want to go back to prison, where he served ten years for killing his neighbor.

“Yes, we decided to eat it. I didn’t want to go back to jail, so we cut off his head and buried it, and cut his body into pieces and kept it in the refrigerator,” Timur said. “We cooked and ate it for six months,” he added.

Timur, 28, said he blamed his brother for going to jail last time after Rafis turned him in to the police for murder. Timur also added that his younger brother, Marat, took his side in the dispute.

8The Two Men Who Ate Their Dead Friend After Getting Lost In Siberia

Having said goodbye to their families, the four men, in excellent spirits, got into their jeep and set off on a long-awaited vacation trip. Their destination was a land from another time, an essentially unexplored corner of eastern Siberia, infested with bears and wolves, where people were rumored to have seen animals like Bigfoot and where only the most desperate explorers dared to go. What subsequently happened to the four Russian travelers is a mystery that is only now slowly beginning to be revealed. The story of their four-month ordeal both captivated and disgusted readers.

Two men returned home alive, one went missing, and the fourth man, 44-year-old Andrei Kurochkin, was found dead under strange circumstances. At first everyone assumed that he simply died due to the extreme cold. But then the horrifying truth began to emerge. Police discovered that parts of his body had been eaten away and that his flesh had likely been eaten best friend Alexey Gorulenko and another fellow adventurer, Alexander Abdullayev, so as not to die of hunger.

Abdullayev, 37, insists they ate Kurochkin only after he died of natural causes. However, the police don't think so and have launched a murder investigation.

9The Chef Who Slow Cooked His Wife

On the night of October 18, 2009, David Viens and his wife Dawn had a terrible fight. Unable to control himself, he taped her mouth shut and tied her legs. He claims that he did this so that she would not “drive around the city under the influence of drugs, drunk from cocaine and alcohol.” The next day, when he discovered that Dawn had died from suffocation with a gag, just as he had left her tied up, he panicked. This in itself is terrible... but this is just the beginning. Instead of simply calling the police and turning himself in, David came up with a disgusting way to dispose of the body.

At the time of Don's untimely death, David was working as a chef and owner of Thyme Cafe in Torrance, California, which is located in the South Bay region of Los Angeles. In an interview with detectives, David said: “I just slowly cooked it, and it all happened over the course of four days" David packed his wife's 47kg body into a container, using a heavy weight to keep it from floating in the boiling water. He mixed the cooked flesh with food scraps and poured everything into a waste pit located in the kitchen of his Thyme Cafe. He put other remains that couldn't be cooked into trash bags and threw them away.

The only part of Dawn's body left was her skull. In an interview, David explained, "It was the one thing I didn't want to get rid of in case I wanted to bury him somewhere." So where was the skull then? He stated that he put the skull in the attic of his mother's house, but when investigators combed the area later that day, they found nothing. This apparently wasn't the first place connected to David that investigators turned upside down in search of evidence. In 2001, the Thyme Cafe was turned upside down, but they never found anything. Now we know exactly why the police were unable to find Dawn's remains. Her body was slowly boiled to a pulp and thrown into a mud pit.

During the interview that was conducted with David in March 2011 and later used in his murder trial, his voice was strikingly calm. David listened to the recording of his story in the courtroom, along with the jurors, who were clearly amazed and disgusted. The interview was conducted while David was in hospital following his suicide attempt after learning he was a suspect in Dawn's disappearance. Apparently he jumped off a 24 meter hill... because that's what innocent people do.

10. The cannibal mother who fed her son's flesh to relatives

In 2008, an eight-year-old boy was skinned and his flesh was fed to his relatives after his mother kept him locked in a basement. Sinister Klara Mauerova, a member of a dark religious cult, wailed in court as she confessed to torturing her son Ondrej, and his ten-year-old brother Jakub.

The court also heard allegations against relatives who partially skinned eight-year-old Ondrej and then ate raw human flesh. The boys described how their mother and relatives put out cigarettes on their skin, beat them with belts and tried to drown them.

Disgusting child abuse was discovered when a man in Brno, Czech Republic, installed a baby monitor to monitor his newborn child. However, the monitor caught an image from exactly the same monitor located next door, and showed how one of the victims was completely beaten undressed and tied him with a chain in the basement.

Apparently, Moerova installed this monitor to enjoy the suffering of her victims while drinking tea in her kitchen. The man immediately called the police, who freed the boy, his brother and, as it seemed to the police, a 13-year-old girl. At the time, police officers did not realize that the "13-year-old girl" who was officially adopted was actually 34-year-old Barbora Skrlova, one of the children's tormentors.

Moerova admitted to abusing her children, but said her sisters Katerina and Skrlova forced her to do so. All three were members of a cult known as the Grail Movement, which claims to have hundreds of followers in the UK and tens of thousands of followers around the world.

Guidebooks warn of many dangers that may await travelers in a particular country. But no one warns about cannibalism. Surprise! Cannibalism is still practiced in some tribes, such as India, Cambodia and West Africa. And here are 7 countries where tribes are still not averse to feasting on people.

South East Papua New Guinea

The Korowai tribe is one of the last on Earth that regularly eats human flesh. They live along the river, and there have been cases when they killed random tourists. Healers also considered warm brains a real delicacy.

Why do they eat people? When someone in the tribe dies for no apparent reason (illness or old age), they consider it an act of black magic and, in order to protect others from harm, must eat the person.

Interesting fact: In 1961, Michael Rockefeller (son of New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller) disappeared while collecting artifacts about the tribe. His body was never found.

India

The North Indian Hindu sect of Aghori eats volunteers who bequeath their entrails. However, in 2005, Indian television crews conducted an investigation and learned that they also eat decaying corpses from the Ganges ( local tradition), and also steal organs from crematoria.

Why do they eat people?

Aghori believe that this prevents aging of the body.

Interesting fact: They make really good jewelry from human bone and skulls.

Fiji

Formerly known as "Cannibal Island". Until now, local residents cannot restore order, and there are still those who eat human flesh, but not all, but only those of enemy tribes.

Why do they eat people? This is a ritual of revenge.

Interesting fact: Fijian cannibals are not animals at all - they eat with cutlery and collect rare things left over from their victims. You can find examples of such collections at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archeology and Anthropology.

Brazil

The Wari tribe ate pious and religious dead until 1960, and after that some government missionaries slaughtered almost the entire tribe. However, poverty levels in Olinda's slums have been prohibitively high since 1994, and outbreaks of cannibalism still occur.

Why do they eat people? Poverty and hunger.

Interesting fact: In 2012, information appeared from researchers who interviewed local residents, and they claimed that they heard voices that told them to kill this or that person.

West Africa

The Leopard Society of Active Cannibals has been eating people since the last century. Until the 80s, human remains were found in the vicinity of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Cote d'Ivoire. The tribe is usually dressed in leopard skins and armed with their fangs.

Why do they eat people? The tribe believes that eating people makes them stronger and faster.

Interesting fact: They have a following - the Human Alligator community, which does similar things.

Cambodia

Journalist Neil Davis reported that cannibalism in these regions gained momentum during the wars in Southeast Asia (in the 1960s and 1970s). Nowadays, manifestations of cannibalism are occasionally observed.

Why do they eat people? The Cambodian troops had a ritual - eating the liver of the enemy.

Interesting fact: Many people in cities and villages were under the control of the Khmer Rouge organization, which strictly controlled all food in the area and artificially created famine in the country.

Congo

There are known cases of cannibalism in the Congo, and the latest were recorded not so long ago - in 2012. They reached their maximum during the Congolese civil war (from 1998 to 2002).

Why do they eat people? During the war, rebel groups believed that enemies should be eaten, especially the heart, which was cooked using special herbs.

Interesting fact: Congolese still believe that the human heart gives special strength, and if there are people, this will scare away enemies.

Have a nice adventure! :)

Cannibalism is one of the greatest taboos in human civilization. But there are people who have tasted human flesh and shared their thoughts about cannibalism. Here are 10 real stories.

10. In 1972, Arthur Shawcross killed a boy and a girl in Watertown, New York. He went to prison for the crimes, but he was released after serving only 15 years. Moved to Rochester, New York in 1988, where he soon began killing prostitutes, 11 times before he was caught. After he returned to prison, Shawcross bragged about some of the disgusting things he had done to his victims, including a number of cases of cannibalism.

He claimed to have eaten human flesh for the first time while serving in Vietnam, where he allegedly killed and ate two women in the jungle. However, there is no evidence that he actually did this. He also claimed to have eaten the genitals of four prostitutes and the heart of a 10-year-old boy he killed. The bodies were too mutilated to be sure. Shawcross claimed that human flesh tasted like pork, like ham, bacon, or a juicy pork chop.

9. The long story of Peter Bryan began when the store owners fired him for stealing. Brian responded by killing their 20-year-old daughter with a hammer before attempting to commit suicide by jumping from a balcony. As a mental patient, he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital in 1993. Nine years later, he was released and moved to another hospital, where he was eventually granted permission to leave without ward supervision.

That same night, he left the hospital, went to the apartment of 43-year-old Brian Cherry, and brutally beat him to death with a hammer. Then, using a saw and a series of knives, Brian amputated Cherry's right leg. When police arrived, they found the brains in a frying pan on the stove. Brian said that he cooked the brain in margarine, and that he tasted: "the dish is really good."

He added that he also tasted meat from Cherry's leg and arm, which he described as tasting just like chicken. After his arrest, Brian was sent back to the mental hospital where he killed another inmate in 2004. Brian said he wanted to eat it, but didn't have enough time to cook the meat.

8. In 2010, 21-year-old Norwegian art student Alexander Selvik Wengshoel underwent hip replacement surgery due to a birth defect that left him dependent on crutches and a wheelchair. Wengshoel convinced his doctor to let him take the removed hip bones home. Wengshoel said he wanted to use bones in his art.

When he returned home after the operation, Wengshoel began boiling the thighs and scraping off some of the flesh. Realizing this was a unique opportunity, he decided to try the piece of flesh, describing it as "very nice." After that, he decided to make food from the flesh that remained on the bones. There was only a handful of meat on the left, so the dish turned out to be just an appetizer, with baked potatoes and a glass of wine. According to Wengshoel, "It was the aroma of wild sheep, if you take a sheep that eats mushrooms in the mountains"

7. Tobias Schneebaum, American artist, who won a Fulbright to study art in Peru. Hitchhiked all the way from New York in 1955. Along the way, he heard about the Arakmbut tribe, who lived in the jungle and hunted with bows and arrows.

Deciding that this was interesting, he set out without a compass to find them. Although the Arakmbut had a brutal reputation, they welcomed Schneebaum. He was delighted and found the tribe very pleasant. Here homosexuality was accepted, for which he was persecuted in New York. He soon decided to stay with them for the rest of his life. Everything changed after he was invited to hunt.

Instead, Arakmbut attacked another village and killed six people. After the massacre, they roasted human organs while dancing around the fire. Schneebaum was horrified, but eventually joined in the dance. When Arakmbut started handing out pieces human meat, Schneebaum ate. After the incident, he reconsidered staying with the tribe and eventually left the Peruvian jungle. Schneebaum's memoirs have become a cult favorite.

He tended to brush off questions about the taste of human flesh, explaining that he was too busy at the time to remember the taste and didn't want people to think of him as a cannibal. However, he once noted that it tasted a little like pork.

6. Omaima Nelson was born in Egypt and moved to the United States to become a model. In 1991, she met 56-year-old William Nelson, whom she married two months later. The union was not a happy one; Omaima accused her husband of beating and rape. Just three weeks after the wedding, she killed him. In an attempt to destroy evidence, she dismembered his body, fried his hands and boiled his head. The murder is truly strange: Omaima removed her husband's ribs, covered them in barbecue sauce, "cooked them like in a restaurant," according to the psychiatrist. Omaima told him: "It's so cute, it's so delicious." Police were alerted to Omaima's crime after she foolishly asked a friend to help her dispose of the body. She was eventually found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison. She later said that she did not eat her husband when she learned that parole was not usually granted to cannibals.

5. Notorious Milwaukee cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer killed 17 young people between 1978 and 1991 Dahmer never spoke openly about his cannibalism, but when he was arrested, he discussed it with the FBI. He said he cut off pieces of the bodies, usually from the hamstrings, and ate some of the organs.

He would take muscles or organs and cut them into tiny pieces, which he would then cook in a frying pan on the stove. Dahmer said of the taste that it was similar to filet mignon, the end of the beef tenderloin considered the most tender cut of beef. Dahmer was sentenced to life in prison in February 1992 and was killed by a fellow inmate two years later.

4. William Seabrook was a New York Times correspondent, but is better known for his truly quirky travel books. One of his most famous books, published in 1931, about a trip to West Africa where he encountered a tribe, the Guere, who ritually consumed flesh from recently deceased tribesmen.

It is curious that Seabrook decided to try human meat for himself. There are two different stories about Seabrook eating human flesh. One story is about Seabrook committing cannibalism upon returning to France, where he convinced a hospital intern to give him some flesh from a fresh corpse.

Regardless of how he obtained the meat, Seabrook was likely a genuine cannibal and described the taste of human flesh as that of veal, not young, but not yet beef. “It was very definite. I think no person with normal sensitivity could distinguish it from veal"

3. In April 2012, Brazilian man Jorge Beltrão Negromonte da Silveira, his wife, Isabel Cristina Pires, and his mistress, Bruna Cristina Oliveira da Silva, were arrested in connection with the murder of a homeless woman. After being taken into custody, they quickly confessed to the murders.

The trio butchered the bodies and sold the meat. Silveira compared human meat to beef in taste and texture. Since it was meat, like beef, Silveira had three different recipe for cooking human flesh. The first was carne guisada, a Mexican stew that is simmered.

Another option was cassava based on the Brazilian dish macaxeira. But most loud scandal became empadas, traditional Brazilian meat pies, which they often sold to unsuspecting neighbors. Da Silveira was given 23 years in prison, his wife and mistress were given 20 years each. Da Silveira says that it is good that he is in prison, otherwise he would, of course, kill again and again.

2. One of the most famous cannibals in modern history is a resident of Japan, Issey Sagawa. Sagawa was studying in Paris when he met 25-year-old Dutch student Renee Hartevelt. On June 11, 1981, Hartevelt was visiting Sagawa in his apartment when he shot her in the back.

After she died, Sagawa ate parts of her body for two days. In his memoirs, Sagawa said that he ate red meat from her buttocks. He said it was tasteless and odorless, but the piece melted on his tongue like raw sashimi tuna. Next, he cooked the meat from her thigh in a frying pan, describing it as decent but tasteless until he added mustard and salt.

He also ate Hartevelt's baked breast parts, but they were too fatty. His favorite was the thigh meat, which he described as "wonderful". Sagawa was arrested three days later and witnesses saw him disposing of the body parts. He was declared insane and placed in a house.

In 1985, he was deported back to Japan, where he was found to be of sound mind. However, French authorities refused to release evidence necessary for the criminal trial. Since the Japanese authorities declared him sane and could not imprison him as a criminal, Sagawa became a free man. He wrote a book and became a celebrity in Japan.

1. German cannibal Armin Meiwes posted an ad on the Internet declaring that he was looking for “a well-built 18-30 year old man for slaughter, for the purpose of subsequent consumption”

The ad received more than 200 responses. After meeting a young man who refused, he found 41-year-old Bernd Jürgen Brandes, who agreed to be eaten. On March 9, 2001, they met and had sexual intercourse until the Meiwes cut off Brandes' penis so they could eat it.

First, they tried consuming it raw but found it too rubbery. Meiwes then tried to cook it with garlic and oil, but ended up burning it. After 10 hours of waiting, Brandes bled to death, Meiwes killed him, hung his body on a meat hook, and began to carve the meat from him.

Over the next 10 months, he ate about 18 kilograms (40 pounds) of the man, in the form of steak and minced meat. In later interviews, Meiwes said that he cooked the seared steaks with salt, pepper, nutmeg, and garlic. Garnish with Brussels sprouts with green pepper sauce. He preferred to drink a glass of South African red wine. And what does Meiwes think about meat?

He said it was a little hard. Apparently it tastes like pork, but with a stronger, slightly bitter flavor. Meiwes insisted that Brandes' death was an assisted suicide, not a murder. He was initially sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for murder, but after a retrial he was sentenced to life in prison. Now he is a vegetarian.
