The flag of Belarus is a rectangular panel with two horizontal stripes of red and green (from top to bottom) colors. Closer to the shaft there is a white and red national Belarusian ornament. The flag is a direct descendant of the flag of the BSSR, from which the hammer and sickle were removed. The flag has a 1:2 ratio. It was adopted on June 7, 1995 and slightly amended in 2012.
The red color on our flag is the color of the victorious standards of the Grunwald victory of the Belarusian regiments over the crusaders. This is the color of the banners of the Red Army divisions and Belarusian partisan brigades that liberated our land from the fascist occupiers and their minions. Green represents hope, spring and rebirth; this is the color of our forests and fields. White color is the embodiment of spiritual purity.
The flag's ornament uses symbols of agriculture - rhombuses, the oldest graphic variations of which are known to archaeologists from finds on the territory of Belarus.

The red ornament, placed on a white background at the flagpole, is a pattern of diamonds. Initially, this ornament was used to decorate women's national clothing.

National anthem of the Republic of Belarus
On September 24, 1955, the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the BSSR approved the text and music of the State Anthem of the Belarusian Republic.
The text of the Belarusian poet Mikhail Klimkovich is “We, Belarusians.”
The author of the music for the anthem of the BSSR was Sokolovsky Nestor Fedorovich - composer, choirmaster, folklorist, organizer of the Ensemble Belarusian song and dance. Music symbolizes continuity historical traditions Belarusian people. The author of the text of the anthem was the lyricist Vladimir Ivanovich Karizna. The anthem used fragments of the previous text written by the poet Mikhail Klimkovich. Belarusian history is filled with difficult moments, but the country was able to gain independence and maintain its cultural traditions. They are perfectly reflected by the coat of arms and each of them deserves attention.
What does a modern flag look like?
The state banner is made in the form of a rectangle, the sides of which are in a ratio of two to one. The flag uses three colors: white, green and red. The first is located in a vertical stripe. The red runs horizontally, taking up two-thirds of the width, and the green stripe fills the remaining third. On the white part there is a national Belarusian pattern, created at the beginning of the twentieth century by a resident of the village of Kostelishche named Matryona Markovich. This flag has been used since independence after but in Soviet times the panel was almost identical: it was complemented by a golden image of a sickle, hammer and star. Belarus is the only country that has preserved such symbolism.

It, like the flag, captures the most important national values Belarusians, their desire for peace and willingness to fight for freedom, unity, and hard work. The coat of arms of Belarus is made on a silver field, in the center of which there is a green outline. It follows the golden rays of the sun that rises over planet Earth. At the top is a red field, framed by wreaths of wheat ears, supplemented with clover on the right, and flax flowers on the left. They are wrapped three times with red-green ribbons, and in the center they have the inscription “Republic of Belarus” in the state language. The symbolism of the green outline in the rays of the sun is simple - this is what all Belarusians direct their thoughts towards, this motherland, which must be maintained within existing boundaries for subsequent generations. Wreaths are signs of memory of ancestors. The coat of arms of Belarus reflects the ancient tradition of placing ears of corn in the house for good luck.
History of symbolism
As in other countries, the republic did not immediately come to the use of such heraldic signs. The modern coat of arms of Belarus is used by everyone government agencies since 1995, when a popular referendum was held to determine important issues symbolism and language. The flag was adopted at the same time. Some citizens believe that Soviet symbols should have been abandoned.
