By this work Three manga series were created: Date A Live, Date A Strike and Date A Origami. The first manga, Date A Live, was announced in April 2012, with illustrations by Ringo. The manga was published in the monthly magazine Monthly Dragon Age, the first volume was released in August 2012. In the April 2013 issue of Monthly magazine Dragon Age it was announced that the manga adaptation would be discontinued due to Ringo's deteriorating health.
Anime
The anime adaptation was produced by studio AICPLUS+, with Keitaro Motonaga, who is known for such anime as Jormungand and School Days, appointed as the main director. The art director is Hisashi Saito, who worked on such anime as Sora no Otoshimono and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, the script was adapted by Hideki Shirane, known for the anime Queen's Blade.
It premiered on April 6, 2013 on Tokyo MX, and each episode was also available a week before its broadcast on Niconico in low quality. The final episode aired on June 16 on Niconico and on June 22 on Tokyo MX.
Opening theme "Date A Live" performed vocal group Sweet ARMS, consisting of Iori Nomizu, Kaori Sadohara, Misuzu Togashi and Misato. The season uses four closing themes: "Hatsukoi Winding Road", "Save The World", "Save My Heart" and "Strawberry Rain".

I was looking forward to this creation with great interest. The wait was long because I wanted to watch exclusively the BD edition to enjoy the work in its full glory. I didn’t read the reviews, but I had the foresight to watch the trailer, and there are some serious special effects, global events and amazing drawings with pretty faces! Of course, after such a meaningful trailer, the world of the work seems multifaceted and elaborate. In other words, promising. Moreover, good figures are produced based on this anime, and similarly, other attributes of the project are not uncommon. Apparently the characters look impressive thanks to the design. There is also a game on PS3 and various manga. Well, the original source of the light novel entered the top 20 in Japan as one of the best-selling light novels of 2011-2012. How often are first impressions deceiving? The anime was disappointing and didn't live up to expectations. To begin with, it was worth reading the reviews, which are very eloquent and there are few laudatory comments. Moreover, the ratings of the title on reputable portals are modest, strongly hinting to the viewer about the quality of the product. At the same time, the studio found that the first season was not enough and they prudently announced a second season.
The plot of “Date A Live” claims to be a large-scale Hollywood blockbuster. Somewhere in the middle of Eurasia, an unknown phenomenon called a “spatial rift” occurs. As a result of this disaster, many people have been destroyed and humanity is in danger. IN lately Anomalies began to appear more and more often in Japan. Anomalies are caused by “Spirits” from another dimension. One wonderful day, the main character of the work of Shido Itsuka will randomly find himself in a situation near the “spirits”. The spirit, of course, appears in the guise beautiful girl. Toka (that’s what she’ll be called) doesn’t understand what’s happening and swings a huge weapon. Now attention: in order to stop the rifts that the spirits are causing, Shido must calm Toka Yatogami and make the girl fall in love with him. So that she would be busy with him, and not with the destruction of the world.
The plot idea is not bad. In theory, it was possible to create from this a heroic-romantic blockbuster comparable in intensity to Sword Art Online. Nowadays, such a high-quality product is exactly what the anime-starved public lacks. But, as often happens, the implementation is not impressive and the animators and scriptwriters went a different route. All the scientific dramatic, as well as romantic potential, merges closer to the middle and the viewer is presented with a simple and regular harem with very funny sim-dating places and absolutely clumsy romance. The behavior of some characters looks illogical, and the dialogues are banal, with a large dose of pathos.
When authors cannot come up with a brilliant idea, mass consumption standards come to the rescue. What we see here too. First of all, no good story; secondly, no interesting characters mainly from a character standpoint. Thirdly, there is no romance and at least some tension. But there is oppai, explosions with special effects like in a Hollywood blockbuster. Blood flows in a stream, especially with the appearance of the yandere, and OYASH's harem is growing at an enchanting speed. All this is a time-tested formula for extracting money from consumers, and anime does not pretend to be anything more serious. After all, the authors cannot offer anything other than a template.
Cliches are not bad; many popular character types are liked by people as the same tsunderes. There are tsundere fan clubs on many forums and websites, and this is not surprising. The problem with the title is that the anime tries to combine a lot of things. Do you know how many genres it combines? Mecha, romance, school, fantasy, shounen and harem comedy. Not bad, right? Such a mishmash is a mess, and tasteless, because when there are many genres and few series, the genres prevent each other from developing. The only really distinct genres that can be distinguished are harem and comedy. After all, as you know, where there is a harem, there won’t be any clear romance. Moreover, what kind of romance can we even talk about when the anime itself, with its absurd game in which the heroes participate, essentially ridicules and is a parody of all kinds of Japanese love sims.
However there is positive side. This concerns the technical component. The design and music are modern, in some places even beautiful scenery they come across and play pleasant melodies. The character designs are also memorable. The images and accompanying costumes of the characters are colorful and give off a certain freshness. The same cannot be said about the character of the heroes. The standard stock characters are not surprising at all: tsundere, kudere and yandere. By the way, yanderes are not a common occurrence in anime. Perhaps that is why the freshness is captured? OYAS is so gray that it is forgotten immediately after viewing, and during viewing it still manages to cause irritation towards oneself due to too pretentious dialogues.
One can understand the critics and agree with them, who noted: if the authors want to make another harem, there is no need to drag science into it and generally interfere with a bunch of genres. Make a simple harem without any shocks and there will be greater success among fans of this genre. And so, in the end, many situations look absurd, like an attempt to depict a global catastrophe that can be cured, for example, by a dating simulator. Unfortunately, this is a seasonal anime that claims to be something big. Fans of the harem will most likely like the work, as well as people who want to watch something simple and entertaining in order to relax in front of the screen from the everyday hustle and bustle. Thanks to high-quality drawing and special effects, this anime can entertain, but there is nothing remarkable in it.
I have such a simple tradition of watching the first fully released series from a new season. Rendezvous with Life became exactly that.
And surprisingly, it turned out to be a magnificent fighting harem.
The plot of the entire action at first seems very simple and somewhat stupid. The first episode 6 looks like a regular pun with a bit of drama and romance. But the second half of the series SUDDENLY becomes incredibly good. The degree of drama increases, the dynamics also become appropriate, while maintaining the punning nature of what is happening. In the end, the last 6 episodes made me want to see a second season. And preferably quickly. After all, much in this world is still unclear. And what they showed us is very intriguing.
The second VENEZAPAN charm of the series is the harem itself. Firstly, I am pleased that it is not stereotyped. For example, Tohka initially seems like a kind of tsundere to us. And such notes are present. But thank God - this is just a mirage. She's just an ordinary girl. She is a little jealous, a little stupid, but she certainly loves our OYASH. Besides, she's a beauty.
The girl, whom I initially saw as a kuudere, turned out to be a sweet stalker with a sad fate.
And also a cute little ventriloquist. The character is essentially not significant, but he brings joy.
But the real discovery for me was cutie Kurumi. I have not seen such cruel representatives of the harem for a long time. And the way she behaves with the hero and her rivals is insane.
Another pleasant surprise for me was the hero’s younger sister. Usually this type disgusts me, but here he is unusually nice.
It is worth mentioning about our OYASH. He's good here. And although there are times when you shout at the screen: “You scum!” But there are many more moments when you shout: “Handsome!” The guy is smart, with strong principles. The way he fought to conquer Kurumi absolutely delighted me! And there are plenty of such good moments.
Yes and minor characters good. Many of them are just for comedy, but they fulfill this role as it should.
The battles, like the plot, are not very exciting in the first 6 episodes. More like having fun. But in the second half they become dynamic and exciting.
As a comedy, the series is great. Laughed out loud 2 times. And it costs a lot.
There seems to be music, but there seems to be no music. In this regard, I was not very impressed. And the graphics match.
Among the minuses, perhaps, are the puns in the first half of the series and some illogicality in the actions of the heroines. More precisely in their motive. If the love between Toki and her little sister is easy to explain, then why Origami is in love with OYASH is not clear to me. Same with Kurumi. He seems to love him very much and wants to become one with him. Why with him? Not clear.
Overall, a great series. Simple, but fun and interesting at the same time. Worth watching. Waiting for the second season is a must.
