The Mozart Festival in Salzburg, which has been gathering crowds of opera lovers for many years, or its complete opposite - the Woodstock rock festival that thundered throughout the world in the late 1960s, which was attended by several tens of thousands of participants and spectators. These grandiose events are on everyone's lips. But there are much better ones in the world music festivals, which hundreds of thousands and even millions of people strive to get to. This good way spend time and save a lot (during the festival week you can see a sea of performers, while tickets for one concert can be much more expensive).

The best music festivals in the world

For fans of electronic music

Tickets for the Ultra festival are quickly snapped up (via the Internet) by electronic music lovers from all over the globe. It is not surprising that from 330 to 350 thousand tourists gather here every year. Among its “brothers”, this Florida music festival is considered one of the largest, in front of a huge stage - there is nowhere for an apple to fall, people are huddled together like sprat in a jar! “Ultra” is relatively young (it has been organized - usually in the spring - since 1999). But if earlier it was just a “rocker get-together”, now it is an amazing several-day show.

Just ten years ago, one of the best music festivals (among European ones) “Tomorrowland” was founded. But this Belgian miracle, which attracts up to 360 thousand people, has already won several international awards. The organizers of the event (which usually seethes and bubbles for three days) are the Dutch from the ID&T corporation. Only stars come to this festival - from the Swede Alesso to the legendary Armin van Buuren.

Another electronic and dance music festival (“Electric Daisy Carnival”) unfurls its “flags” in several large cities (usually New York and Las Vegas, plus the metropolises of Mexico and Puerto Rico). The festival started in 1997, since then it has constantly gained momentum, and now the number of its visitors has exceeded 370 thousand. This is a very noisy and beautiful celebration with carnivals, acrobatic shows and processions, held at the end of June.

For jazz lovers

What kind of city do you think has the right to bear the title “Capital of American Jazz”? Of course it's amazing New Orleans! The musical “Jazz and Heritage Festival” has been held in the spring since time immemorial (in our “top” it is the most “ancient”). Now the attendance of this event has grown significantly and amounts to approximately 435 thousand fans of traditional jazz. Of course, the city authorities welcome such a major cultural event - it brings a lot of money to the budget. In addition, these days, world celebrities visit Louisiana - like the British Elton John or the legendary Jimmy Buffett.

African American Culture Forum

Another best music festival held in New Orleans can easily compete with the previous one, because it attracts up to half a million-plus guests. This celebration of music is called “Essence”, and since 1995 it has been held in mid-July - always on the field of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome stadium. The performances of the stars are not everything: the organizers simultaneously conduct lectures and trainings. The festival is dedicated to African-American music and culture. World-famous black performers (such as Prince or Mary J. Blige) delight those present with their performances.

The most profitable in the world

We are still not leaving the United States, because every year in the state of California (the city of Indio) an unforgettable music festival (up to 680 thousand participants and guests) “Coachella” takes place! You've probably heard this name. In the valley of the same name, lovers of modern music gather for several days (the program includes performances by performers who prefer rock, pop or hip-hop). This forum is considered the most profitable of all the festivals in our rating (its “box office” exceeds $78 million). The first, very modest, “wave” of the festival took place in 1999; now the scope of Coachella is simply amazing.

Rock in Rio pushes boundaries

Up to 700 thousand spectators are welcomed by the Rock in Rio festival held in Rio de Janeiro. Growing from a small music event organized in 1985 to a world-class event, this Brazilian music celebration has expanded to several cities around the world (besides Rio de Janeiro, Madrid, Lisbon, Las Vegas). The cult Metallica, Katy Perry and the mega-popular Rihanna and Taylor Swift became the festival's most welcome and anticipated guests.

Largest in the Western Hemisphere

We are returning to the expanses of America again - on the agenda is the Milwaukee Summerfest. Just imagine - in 2014, 850 thousand people came here wanting to join this incredible event! In the USA (and throughout the Western Hemisphere) this is the largest music forum. It was founded in 1968 (a year before the famous Woodstock) and usually lasts a whole week. During this time, up to seven hundred groups and singers - both experienced and famous, and beginners - manage to perform for the guests. The organizers claim that this is also the cheapest festival: the ticket price a year ago started at $15.

2.5 to 3.1 million guests

You might be surprised, but one of the best music festivals in the world (the number of guests of which has long exceeded a million) is based in African Morocco - in the city of Rabat. This miracle dedicated to Moroccan culture is called “Mawazine”. Last year the festival was visited by 2.6 million tourists and local residents. Of course, in addition to “their” stars, the organizers also invite foreign ones - such as Justin Timberlake or Adam Levine and his band.

We present the best music festival in the world - the grand “Donauinselfest”, held on a picturesque island in the middle of the Danube. Participants (working in all known musical styles and, of course, classical orchestras and soloists) and enthusiastic visitors fly in and out of Vienna, and then take a ferry to get there. The number of guests in 2014 exceeded 3.1 million – can you imagine the scale? Austria gave the world Mozart and Strauss, so it fully deserves such an annual holiday!

For everyone who loves music and very active pastime, this top is for you. I will tell you about the 5 largest music festivals that attract great amount people with different corners planets. Summer is just around the corner, it's time to plan how to enjoy the most awaited time of the year.

I'll start with the most famous festival, Tommorowland.

Tomorrowland began in 2005 and has since become one of the most popular music festivals in the world. This festival has received the International Dance Music Award for "Best Music Event" every year since 2012. It is organized by the Dutch entertainment company ID&T, which hosts it in Belgium. Last year the concert was attended by 360,000 music fans. It will take place from July 24 to 26. Performers such as Alesso, Armin Van Buuren and Hardwell are scheduled to perform at the festival.

Next on the list is the no less popular musical event, Coachella.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is a prime example of what people imagine when they think of a large-scale contemporary music festival. Coachella has been held annually since 1999 in Indio, California. Last year, more than 675,000 people attended this festival. This year the festival will begin from April 13 to 15 and from April 20 to 22. Acts including AC/DC, David Guetta, Drake, Jack White and Steely Dan will perform, with Beyonce herself headlining. Coachella began as a small festival attended by only a few thousand people. Today it is the most profitable festival in the world, collecting $78.3 million in 2014 alone.

I’ll tell you about another American popular festival, Burning Man. This is perhaps the freest, in the truest sense of the word, festival. That is, there are almost no rules or restrictions. But at the same time, it is considered the most harmless holiday for the surrounding world. Environmental friendliness is one of the most important principles of the Burning Man festival. “Burning Man” allows you to reveal the talent of absolutely anyone: artist, inventor, architect, designer, musician. An annual eight-day event taking place in the Black Rock Desert (USA, Nevada). The festival begins on the last Monday of August, at zero one minute. The organizers themselves define the event as an experiment in creating a community of radical self-expression, while completely relying only on itself (English: radical self-expression, and radical self-reliance). For a week, works of modern art, often of fantastic forms, are installed in the desert. Some of them are burned by the creators before the end of Burning Man.

Finally, I’ll tell you about our Russian festival “Invasion”.

INVASION – the largest All-Russian festival open-air, which has been held since 1999. The festival is rightfully considered the largest and most visited festival in the post-Soviet space - in 2017, about 200,000 people visited INVASION.

First of all, INVASION is music. Beyond formats and frames. Over the course of 3 days, both legendary and very young performers perform on the stages of the festival. Since 2009, the main adventure of the year has acquired a permanent “registration” - Bolshoye Zavidovo in the Tver region.

And finally, it’s worth mentioning famous festival, which is held in Russia, “Sensation White”.

Annual electronic music festival. Until 2005, it was held exclusively in the Netherlands at the Amsterdam Arena. Later he reached us, and now thousands of Russians wait for him every year. The main rule of the festival is entry only in white.

This year “Sensation White” will be in Moscow at the Olympic Sports Complex. The dates of the festival are still unknown.

Such events are truly worth attending as much as possible. more people. I’m sure there will be enough impressions to last a lifetime. If you love music festivals, then I wish you to visit each of them and experience all the pleasures they have in store.

The fumes of frenzy and revelry, a huge amount of light and thunderous sounds of guitar cuts - all this tells you that you are at a rock festival. An event that some people wait for years, and when they wait, they organize a celebration of life, is significant for the city or region where it is held, and above all because of its mass scale.

After all, there are millions of fans of rock and its ideology of freedom, which means that people from all over the world will come to the largest party. The most massive and iconic rock festivals are in our selection right now.

1. Sziget Festival (“island”)

In fact, this festival represents a whole mix of festivals. Having started with 43 thousand, now this festival typically attracts over 400 thousand people, and attracts more and more more people, both versatile music and incredible comfortable conditions (hello to the organizers of Russian festivals). In addition to the main stage with selected rock of various classical styles, people also hang out near the stages with ethno-rock and heavy rock.

The European level of infrastructure shines through here in everything. Having sent your children to the “children’s room”, where they will be looked after, you can go to a hairdresser with free Wi-Fi, where they will make you a multi-colored mohawk with a cup of coffee, and you will go to hang out near the stage, and then calmly wash your sweaty and smoke-smelling clothes in local laundry. Monsters such as Radiohead, Franz Ferdinand, Placebo, Iggy Pop, The Prodigy gladly come to these comfortable conditions.

2. “Rock im Park” and “Rock am Ring”

The largest rock festivals in Germany, one of which takes place at the Zeppelinfield in Nuremberg, and the second at the Nuremburg race track. The main feature of these festivals is the quality of performance and star names its headliners, just read these names: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Machine Head, Muse, Nickelback, Evanescence, Linkin Park, Korn, Metallica.

The quality of the festival, in principle, is not much different from the first one - you will also have access to all services, such as an ATM, the Internet, medical assistance and a “children’s room”. Practical Germans set aside entire hectares for convenient camping, so lovers of tents and trailers have absolute freedom here.

3. Glastonbury

The festival in the ancient British town proudly holds the title of the largest and most diverse in Europe. Of course, its main component is rock concerts, which attract up to 500 thousand people. Listen to such famous bands as Coldplay, U2, Morrissey, Beyonce, Queens of the stone age, BB King, the Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim.

However, it would be dishonest not to tell you that by going to this festival of art, in addition to rock, you have the opportunity to enjoy almost all types of creativity, ranging from art exhibitions and theatrical performances to crazy competitions like motorcycle racing. There are no restrictions on alcohol, the only thing is that they won’t sell it to you in glass containers - so all the ingredients for a real rocker festival are met.

4. Invasion

The largest domestic rock festival, which gathers crowds of thousands in the Tver region (since 2004, and before that in the Moscow region since 1999), each time presents mainly to the domestic audience the entire color of Russian rock: from mastodons like Aquarium, Aria, to the relatively newfangled Surganov and orchestra, Animal Jazz, Billy's Band and others, others. There is also an alternative scene, proudly named “Our 2.0” in recent years, where all sorts of small-town and regional rock bands of a smaller rank perform.

The distinctive feature of the festival, unfortunately, is the disgusting organization, about which demotivators are written on the Internet and multi-page angry reviews are written. Mud underfoot, a glass of boiling water for 20 rubles and cannibalistic prices for food, coupled with rare dry toilets, may be designed for harsh, shaggy-haired rockers, but the average person usually can’t stand it for more than a day.

5. Rock over the Volga

An alternative to “Invasion”, and also broke the attendance record thanks to the visit legendary group Rammstein - as many as 700 thousand people gathered, which broke all world records. Surprisingly, unlike “Invasion”, entry there is absolutely free and food is at very reasonable prices. Yes, in terms of everyday amenities, again, don’t count on complete comfort and free wi-fi, but you will find a place to pitch a tent and not take a mud bath.

By visiting this event, which takes place in Samara region, you can enjoy the creativity of Mordor, Chaif, Aquarium, Aria, Chizh & Co, Ken Hensley, Resurrection, DDT, Yu-Peter, Spleen, King and Jester, Agatha Christie, Apocalyptica, Alice, Chaif, Bi-2, Night Snipers.

Lake of Stars. Mangochi, Malawi

The blue lake and golden sands of Lake Malawi are the best place to experience a magical African festival. Here, in addition to vibrant Afro-pop, the best DJs and emerging musicians, you can enjoy the grandeur of nature: the sunrise over the lake is truly an impressive action. You can also get to know the local people by sharing a beer with them.
