La Toya Jackson as a child. La Toya Jackson about the last days of Michael Jackson's life and what happened after his death. Spectacular change of image

La Toya Jackson - popular singer, actress, dancer and presenter, sister.

The difficult life and intense creativity of the famous American singer La Toya Jenkson, born in 1956 in Indiana in the USA.

La Toya Jackson was born into music large family May 29, 1956 in the US state of Indiana. From childhood, the children were raised in a creative atmosphere, and already at the age of 16, the girl and her brothers actively began to conquer the heights of show business. She moved beautifully and sang well, but did not immediately understand that her calling was the stage, since she was initially oriented towards a different profession, she was more attracted to law.

Many, if not all, of the family were led by their father, who firmly decided that his children would sing in a group and would definitely achieve success in show business.

Childhood and first steps

The father of the family was strict, and she repeatedly emphasized this in interviews. But my mother, on the contrary, was very modest, not striving for publicity. She was a believer and was impressed by the Jehovah's Witnesses movement. She brought interest in him to her daughter and Michael, perhaps the most famous of the brothers. The children with particular zeal knocked on neighbors' houses, talking about the need for faith and agitating people. But at the age of 16, show business became almost the main occupation, and La Toya concentrated on it.

The girl went to college, but was unable to combine her studies and concert activities, giving preference to the latter. Success accompanied her. The audience appreciated the plasticity, charm, and technical and organizational issues completely fell on the father, who performed the duties of an administrator, producer, PR manager and even a costume designer.

In the 70s of the last century, the girl declared herself not only as a talented dancer and singer, but also as an actress. It was then that the series “The Jacksons”, which became very popular, about the life of a family, started, and viewers followed the ups and downs in the creative family from television screens with undisguised delight and interest.

We can say that this was the beginning of success. It was decided to divide the children into two groups: a male group, consisting of brothers, and a female group, consisting of three sisters. But, unfortunately, it is possible due to circumstances or complex characters young singers(and unlike the brothers) they failed to create a truly cohesive creative union, and La Toya soon focused on her own career.

The eighties - the beginning of great fame

The 80s of the last century were a truly golden time for the talented singer. She released her first single, choosing to give it her first name without the surname "Jackson", although the surname was already quite famous at that time. However, her father, who, of course, had a very developed creative flair, did not allow her to do this, considering that indicating the name “Jackson” on the cover of the single would only be beneficial. He was not mistaken, because the surname has become a brand.

The album turned out to be successful, but did not cause great enthusiasm, breaking the charts. However, publications and critics rated it very warmly. This was followed by another record, the success of which can also be described as moderate. Looking ahead, it is worth noting that La Toya, unlike his famous brother, who fired hits like bullets, was never able to reach his level. Her songs are undoubtedly pleasant, melodic, they are well perceived in the frame of the singer’s gentle voice, plus, professional video clips were created in which La Toya showed her plasticity in all its glory. But it’s probably not possible to call her a singer with mega hits.

Spectacular change of image

A change in the image, the manner of presenting oneself, and even adding notes of sexuality, occurred in 1987, when the singer changed her manager, certainly endowed with professional flair. It was with his input that the emphasis was placed on the sex appeal of the image.

Shyness, romance and even chastity are a thing of the past. Moreover, the public’s demand for shy girls also began to fade. Therefore, La Toya Jackson has turned into a real lioness, panther and seductress all rolled into one. People were fascinated by her grace, beautiful curves of her body, excellent physical fitness, amazing plasticity, lightness.

Marriage

In 1989, she married her manager Jack Gordon. Yes, the same one that made her image sexier and made men believe that she was not just performing in front of them talented singer, but also a femme fatale. Later, La Toya will recall that Jack Gordon was very strict and even somewhat despotic, he tried to control everything. But the singer did not give such revelations right away, but only in 2005, when Jack Gordon died.

Much can be learned from her autobiographical book, which is written with amazing sincerity. In many ways, it is much easier for a singer to express herself, talk about her difficult fate in memoirs and autobiographies, rather than in numerous interviews, where she is in no hurry to lay out the details of her personal life.

This marriage was short-lived; the singer could not bear the constant control and rather difficult relationship. She returned to the family, and a complex, painful divorce process began. This could not but affect the psychological well-being of the woman, who was acutely worried about what was happening and thought about her life, destiny, and creative career.

At that time, the prospects in show business seemed very unclear to her; she was not sure that she would continue to be in demand as a singer and would be interesting to people.

Renaissance

When the depression from an unsuccessful marriage and difficult divorce proceedings subsided, by the way, not without the support of family and friends, the singer again plunged headlong into creativity. She appeared in numerous television shows, hosted programs, participated in musical and even non- musical projects. But there is great interest in such projects. Stars often take part in projects where they need to show not their creative abilities, but rather their physical skills. La Toya gladly took part in the castings, in sports competitions, reality show.

In 2009, the most famous of the Jackson clan, Michael, died. La Toya took this event very hard, especially since the family had to fend off annoying journalists and paparazzi. Moreover, the cause of Michael Jackson’s death was unclear, which made all family members even more nervous. It was she who, after weighing all the facts, initiated the reopening of the case about the strange death of her brother.

However, time heals, and any hardships are forgotten. Today La Toya is still at the peak of popularity, she is gladly invited to variety of shows, she gives interviews and delights fans with her creativity.

I read La Toya’s book “Living with the Jackson Family” (or “Michael Jackson through the eyes of his sister” 1993, Moscow, “InterDigest.”) I had sad feelings after reading it, especially after the final part. Luckily, La Toya has reconciled with her family. Of course, the book should be read only if you are able to separate the “wheat from the chaff” and have read other books written by the Jacksons. In general, La Toya's book is a confession of a child offended by everyone. In any family there are some moments of misunderstanding; you can remember the positive things about your household, but from our point of view, not much. Any situation can be presented in different ways. Of course, I agree that if a person is already an adult, there is no need for parents to take such care of him in terms of building his personal life. Or, in any case, only advice. But it must be taken into account that La Toya was from a famous family, and according to her own words, she did not have much experience in relationships with the opposite sex until she was quite mature. Of course, you can’t tell your heart, but often over the years, children can understand that their parents were right when expressing an opinion about someone. At the same time, of course, there is also banal parental jealousy and judgments based on these feelings. But in in this case, I think La Toya realized how wrong she was in running away from home, about her date. Besides, it would be okay if only the parents were indignant, but the brothers and sisters were not happy either.
In fact, I think she just wanted, like a capricious girl, to annoy everyone in order to attract attention to herself. more attention. To run away so that everyone would love and miss her even more. This is evidenced by last chapters about how upset she was that Germain turned her room into a warehouse, and her mother allegedly removed photographs of her from the room.

Almost the entire book is occupied by stories not about La Toya herself, but about what a rash dad and the others got it too. And of course, this is more revenge for the reluctance to accept her man, as well as the direct pressure of this far from the most decent person. I don’t think you should believe all of this; a lot of it is clearly exaggerated and embellished. For example, the story that Joseph allegedly forced his brothers to fight each other in front of his eyes as a child. Most likely, since Joseph did a little boxing, he simply showed his sons techniques. In addition, one of Jackie’s sons was also involved in it at one time. Or here is one of the passages about suffering in childhood: “After having breakfast, getting dressed, brushing our teeth, we lined up like tin soldiers. Mom checked our teeth, and Joseph followed her, as if on an inspector's check, and gave each of us a spoonful of fish oil and castor oil. And for a snack, an apple for each of us, as a consolation prize for the drugs we swallowed.” And at the same time, she writes: “Joseph did not fulfill his dream of becoming a professional musician, but he did not force his sons to go on stage for his own gain. We must not forget that he exposed himself to great risk by leaving his job at the factory. This was his only opportunity to prove his love for children. Although the boys’ childhood was not as carefree as that of their friends, they loved performing, and their parents supported them in this hobby. And for this my brothers are grateful to them now. Now, in their glory, they hold no grudge against Joseph for being too harsh in his treatment of them.” " Some music magazines lived practically at their expense. They reached out to fans, and month after month, page after page, they covered the boys' lives: their likes and dislikes, their color photographs, their horoscopes and pages of advice for female readers under the motto: “What would you do if you met one of the five Jacksons? Each of them had his own image: Jackie the sporty one appearance, Tito is a serious, calm and virtuoso musician, Jermaine was the sex symbol of the group. Marlon is the little younger brother, and Michael played the child prodigy.”
At the same time, I wouldn't say that La Toya is that bad. It feels like she really loves her family. It seems to me that she just needed to expand her social circle. She is a nice girl and has few friends. And of course, she believed the first person who told her about selfless love, and that was what she lacked.

You can learn some interesting things in the book. Some stories about Michael are not far-fetched, interesting: “Michael and I were very interested in history and found films based on historical subjects. The walls in Michael's room were lined from floor to ceiling with bookshelves. He had a variety of books: philosophical works, biographies of great people... He probably knew about all the great artists and inventors who ever lived on earth. Many people thought Michael was childish, but I want to argue. It is true that he managed to retain a ray of childish charm in himself. He is full of curiosity. For example, he was interested in anatomy, and he bought himself exactly the same plastic model of the human body that we are used to seeing in biology classrooms. He carefully studied the structure of the human body in his room.
“We have vocal cords, we can speak, but a monkey cannot.” Why? La Toya, do you think it's possible to teach a monkey to talk? Reading medical literature, Michael became interested in various physiological anomalies and could talk for hours about conjoined twins, about an amphibian man. Upon learning of his interest in such unfortunate creatures, the press maligned him, calling Michael a sickly eccentric. But, like most value judgments about his personality, this was incorrect, since it did not reveal true reasons so unusual hobby. This was not blasphemy. I can say with complete confidence: like our mother, being very sensitive, Michael could not tolerate human suffering in any form. The sight of a hungry African child on the TV screen gave him reason to cry. “ “I get angry when people laugh at Michael for being interested in such people: he feels sorry for them, he doesn’t mock them. People don't understand this.
“Just imagine the life of these people,” he said with sadness in his voice. “It must be terrible to have everyone staring at you.” Everyone wants to be different from everyone else, but it hurts the same for everyone.
I understand why Michael felt so much for these people: to be a star means to turn into a showcase for other people, which everyone stares at.”
Michael said about the same thing in one of his interviews - that he loves to study and learn. Talked about how interested he was in anatomy and how impressed he was tragic story Joseph Merrick.

La Toya also wrote about her brother: “Meanwhile, Michael the superstar attracted everyone to him. more women who were worried about his fame and money. For a long time now, I have harbored the fear that women love not the man Michael Jackson, but his image as a superstar. My brother shares this difficult fate with all celebrities, but since he has too little experience in communicating with the opposite sex, it is even more difficult for him than for others. As a joke, I suggested that he marry a woman who is as famous as him, or one who has never heard of him.”
It’s touching how La Toya writes about her fans among the stars, about their signs of attention to her, and that at the same time she did not particularly react to them. In particular, Prince, Mike Tyson, a funny story with Iglesias, Eddie Murphy tried to get attached to La Toya. At the same time, La Toya also writes about the unpleasant sides of show business. Some of it was really creepy to read. But La Toya is great, the man has good self-control.
In general, the book rather reflects a difficult stage in La Toya’s life and, of course, is not an impartial and complete biography.

In 2011, La Toya wrote new book, his biography “Starting over”, in which a lot of space is devoted to memories of Michael. Also, La Toya herself refutes much of her previous book, which she wrote under pressure from Jack Gordon. According to La Toya, she almost forcibly married him; the pictures for Playboy were also taken under his pressure. She was afraid that he might do something to her if she refused. Relatives repeatedly tried to “steal” her from Gordon, but they did not succeed soon. Yes, and Gordon was beginning to cross all boundaries in his demands, and for her the only way out was to return to the family and divorce this not the most decent person.
The family supported La Toya, the whole past was forgotten. By the way, Michael also actively tried to help his sister. He even offered a considerable amount of money in exchange for refusing to write the book. Naturally, he offered it to Gordon, and not to La Toya, as it is written in the book. Having learned about the candid photographs for the magazine, Michael visited the editorial office and tried to prevent their publication. According to La Toya, Gordon hated Michael, of course, because her brother was a very talented and successful person. And Gordon hardly loved her either. I just wanted to somehow get rich and famous by using it.
By the way, La Toya can be seen in several of Michael’s videos, such as “Say, say, say” and “The way you make me feel.” Michael also wanted her to star in “Thriller,” but after the script was approved, it was decided that it was still necessary to cast a non-relative for the role, in order to avoid transferring this role to life, in general, rumors.

On June 19, 1986, La Toya released her fourth studio album, Imagination, from which 3 singles were released. 1987-1988: La Toya or You're Gonna Get Rocked!

These singles are also two of La Toya Jackson's five songs to date for which music videos have been shot. The album was re-released as an expanded two-CD set entitled You're Gonna Get Rocked! by Cherry Pop Records in December 2013.

1989-1990: Bad Girl, Playboy and a new image

After release previous album La Toya Jackson "La Toya", her image has changed significantly, becoming more revealing. Jack Gordon had a strong influence on La Toya, which contributed to the conflict with her family. She is offered to appear for Playboy magazine, and despite her conservative upbringing, in March 1989, an issue of Playboy magazine is published, on the cover of which is La Toya Jackson. La Toya later added, "To show my parents that they can't dictate to me anymore - that I am in control of my life."

At the same time, La Toya Jackson is working on her sixth album, which is called "Bad Girl". The album was released on January 23, 1990. The album becomes one of the most successful in La Toya's discography, and is also released under the titles "He"s My Brother", "Sexual Feeling", "Playboy (Be My)", "Why Don"t You Want My Love?" and "Be My Lover". 4 singles were released from the album. "Bad Girl" is an album that is still in print today, and it continues to be reissued under many different covers and names. The album is one of the most famous due to its wide availability. The track Playboy (Be My) was incorrectly titled Playboy (Be Me) on some re-releases of this album. It was re-recorded in 1991 for the album "No Relations" as "Be My Playboy". Also, La Toya Jackson performed the most famous songs at her 1989 concert at Reno Bally from this and the previous album.

1991-1994: No Relations And Formidable

1991 saw the release of La Toya Jackson's seventh studio album, No Relations, an album heavily influenced by house and funk. The album includes the single "Sexbox", which became a hit in the Netherlands. The album was released shortly after La Toya's autobiography, La Toya: Growing Up in the Jackson Family, was published. The album was released only in Colombia, Germany and Holland, but was imported throughout Europe and the rest of the world. The single "Let's Rock the House" was also released, but without success.

In 1992, La Toya Jackson signed a contract with the Moulin Rouge in Paris to perform her own revue called Formidable. Jackson was scheduled to perform two shows at night, six nights a week. La Toya Jackson became the highest paid performer in cabaret history, earning $5 million. A French-language soundtrack for the show was also released, but in a small edition. Only 3,000 copies were made, and it became one of the most sought-after albums by her fans.

1994-2002: From Nashville To You, Stop In The Name Of Love and a break in creativity

In 1994, La Toya Jackson's eighth studio album, From Nashville To You, was released with a country sound. The album was produced by ex-husband Jack Gordon. In 1996, the album was re-released under the title "My Country Collection".

In 1995, the ninth studio album "Stop In The Name Of Love" was released. The album was recorded in Sweden. Contains covers of famous songs The group Supremes "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "Baby Love". Only one single was released from the album, “I Can’t Help Myself,” which is also a cover. Later, the singer took a long break from her work, only occasionally appearing on shows performing songs.

The fifth child in the illustrious Jackson family, La Toya Jackson was born in 1956 in Gary, Indiana. She grew up very shy, was known as a homebody, and when the mother of the family, Katherine, converted to Jehovah's Witnesses, she willingly followed her. LaToya's younger brother Michael followed, and soon the children were knocking on neighbors' doors every morning, actively encouraging them to join their church. At the age of sixteen, LaToya joined her brothers and began participating in shows where her job was to sing along and dance. The girl herself would prefer to become a lawyer, however, her father was adamant - show business had already been chosen as the Jackson family business. Father Jackson kept his children strict, sometimes developed musical talents forcibly and, judging by the results, this method of “raising stars” turned out to be effective. So, after studying a little in college, LaToya was forced to leave her studies - concerts took up a lot of time.

In the seventies, LaToya, along with her sisters Rabbit and Janet, appeared in all twelve episodes television project CBS channel "The Jacksons". She sang, danced, performed sketches and turned out to be no less talented than the other Jackson children. Later, along with her sisters, LaToya became a member women's team family, however, the LaToya-Janet-Rabby trio quickly fell apart, undermined by irreconcilable differences, without leaving history with any meaningful evidence of its existence.

In the eighties, LaToya Jackson released her first solo album- "La Toya Jackson." She wanted to omit her last name from the title and leave only her first name on the album cover, taking it as a creative pseudonym - the girl really wanted to do something on her own, without relying on her family. However, the father again did not allow his zealous daughter to act arbitrarily, reminding her that she should be proud of her last name, and not hide it. However, the surname “Jackson” was already really working for itself, and LaToya, like all the children of the “star family,” only increased the overall fame. The album was expected to be a moderate success - it did not “blow up” the charts, however, and did not go completely unnoticed. The next studio work - the album "My Special Love" - repeated the fate of the first. It should be noted that LaToya Jackson never managed to produce any particularly significant musical solo projects. However, individual compositions from time to time reached quite high positions in the charts - the songs “If You Feel the Funk”, “Night Time Lover”, “Bet”cha Gonna Need My Lovin”, “Heart Don”t Lie”, “Hot Potato” " and several others became quite popular.

It is noteworthy that in 1988, LaToya still managed to “disown” her great family– the title of the album from that year contains only the modest “La Toya”. Although, by that time, this was unlikely to confuse anyone, and therefore could be regarded as some kind of “star” whim.

In 1987, Jack Gordon was hired as LaToya's manager, and it was from that time that the singer's image began to change - she became more and more sexy. The amazing metamorphoses that occurred with the chaste and shy LaToya shocked many, especially her family. Sexuality, which has now become the main definition of stage image, attracted Jackson huge amount fans. So, it turned out that “undressed LaToya” turned out to be somewhat more attractive than “singing LaToya”. The singer's breasts received a separate discussion - there were different opinions about whether the breasts were a gift from Nature or a gift from the “golden hands” of a plastic surgeon. All this led to a scandal in the family, and the girl moved to New York. In 1989, LaToya posed nude for Playboy; in the same year, another album was released under the controversial title “Bad Girl”.

In September 1989, Gordon married LaToya, however, it was not a marriage in the real sense of the word - the singer herself stated that the marriage took place against her will. For the next decade, Jack Gordon, according to LaToya herself, was the complete master of her life, maintaining his power sometimes by cunning and sometimes by direct violence. Documents, invoices, contracts, as well as all professional activity LaToya was in the arms of her husband. However, LaToya decided to openly tell some details about her life with Gordon only after his death in 2005. She reflected all this, and much more, in her autobiographical book, “La Toya: Growing Up in the Jackson Family.” And then, having finally returned to the bosom of the family and making peace with her parents, LaToya launched the divorce process, which turned out to be protracted and quite painful. For some time, LaToya found herself completely out of the rhythm of life; she spent a lot of time alone, trying to decide where to continue her life and career. The last music album released by the singer was dated 1995, there was uncertainty ahead, and LaToya no longer believed in her talent.

However, time heals, and members of the Jackson family were able to forgive her for the scandalous attacks (on the family in general and on Michael in particular) in the press and did not leave her alone. Appearances began on television, in shows and all kinds of near-musical projects. So, in 2007, LaToya took part in the show “Armed & Famous”, and later, in 2009, in the most popular project “Celebrity Big Brother”. By the way, she turned out to be the second family member to take part in this show.

In the terrible days after the death of her brother Michael, it was LaToya Jackson who was the first to be admitted to the Reagan-UCLA Medical Center hospital; she was also the initiator of a re-investigation of the strange circumstances of his death, and was also the first to doubt the natural death of her brother.
