Complete collection and description: prayer for a relative during surgery for the spiritual life of a believer.

It is clear that you are very worried about your loved ones, this is great. As for prayer, unfortunately people have forgotten what it really is. Today, it is mainly treated as a spell (a special set of words), and for each case there is its own prayer - a spell. Initially, prayer is an appeal, communication with God! As you communicate with your loved one, communicate with God in the same way. This is real prayer. Tell God about what you are worried about, about the operation of a loved one, about what you are afraid of, do not hesitate to ask God for strength and wisdom. Pour out your heart to Him. Such prayers are pleasing to God. He also loves that people address Him by name through or in the name of Jesus Christ, showing their faith in His atoning sacrifice. The name of God himself is Jehovah or Yahweh. According to the Holy Scriptures, Jehovah did not commission anyone to listen to prayers. He reserved this right for himself. Therefore, you need to pray only to Him - the Almighty God!

It is better to turn to the great martyr and healer Panteleimon, as far as I know (in general, when a person is sick). I haven’t seen a special prayer for the operation (although I’ve been going to church for a long time).

You can turn to God with short prayers: “Lord, help.” “Lord, have mercy!”

And here is a prayer to the saint I mentioned above:

Since there are no prayers for such a specific case as an operation, you can pray in any words. Prayer is a conversation with God; in fact, the exact text is not so important, the main thing is positive energy that will protect the patient.

You can pray to any holy doctors and healers, for example, the unmercenary doctors Cosmas and Damian, Saint Seraphim of Sarov, and Panteleimon the healer. In this case, it is better to have in front of you an appropriate image, an icon.

When your loved one is undergoing surgery, try not to read any special prayers, but turn to the Lord God in your own words, pouring out to Him your experiences, fears and wishes. And do not forget to say at the end of the prayer: “Let Your will be done in everything.” God will definitely hear a sincere prayer from the heart, no worse than a memorized prayer.

You can pray in your own words. You can ask God to give your relative strength to cope, for the doctor to do his job well, and for the postoperative period to be without complications. And before the operation itself, you can ask what a smart doctor would do, ask for peace of mind for you and your relative.

You can pray in your own words, most importantly from the heart, because prayer is a conversation with God, so not necessarily with learned words

Currently faced with surgical interventions large number people of different ages: from small to large. When an operation is performed, as a rule, anesthesia (pain relief) is used, and this puts a lot of stress on the heart, which adds fear before any, even simple, surgical intervention. .

Progress does not stand still, and surgical interventions are so easy that a person gets up and goes home within an hour after the manipulations, but, nevertheless, not a single operation takes place without worries.

Orthodox believers, Christians, are sure to seek the blessing of the Lord and the help of God's saints before the operation.

Prayer to Luka Krymsky before surgery

Saint Luke is a saint of God, who is known in the church world as a preacher of faith in the Lord God, a confessor, a good shepherd who healed the sick. He was a doctor and treated both physical and mental illnesses.

He managed to combine two difficult lives: being a doctor and an archpastor at the same time. They said that Luke had hands from God, he was a famous surgeon. His medical research and surgical achievements shook the world. Entire legends circulated about his healings.

But throughout the entire time of healing, he did not leave the church world. He soon realized that his calling was to be a priest and soon took monastic vows. They began to call him the apostle, evangelist and physician Luke. Afterwards, for a long time he was known as the ruling bishop of the Crimean Orthodox diocese.

It is because of his famous medical and surgical past that Christians pray to him for health after the operation, for the successful completion of the operation and for a speedy recovery.

A prayer appeal to Luke, as to any Holy Saint of God, must be pronounced sincerely, thoughtfully and with faith in the heart.

It is best to purchase an icon of the Saint for prayer, and it can even be a small pocket icon. In a church or at home, in complete solitude, a special text of prayer to St. Luke is said. Immediately during the operation, relatives and friends pray for the patient:

“Chosen to the saint of the Orthodox Church and confessor, who has shone forth to our country in the lands of the Crimea, like a shining luminary, having labored well and enduring persecution for the Name of Christ, glorifying the Lord who glorified you, who has given you to us, a new prayer book and helper, we sing praiseworthy songs; But you, who have great boldness towards the Lady of heaven and earth, free us from all mental and physical ailments, and strengthen us well in Orthodoxy, so that we all call to you in tenderness: Rejoice, Holy Hierarch of the Crimea, Confessor Luke, good and merciful physician.”

Doctors respond favorably to the prayers of patients and ask them to pray more. Immediately before the operation, you need to read the prayer to Luke forty times. The greatest effect is achieved if one prays in an Orthodox church, at an icon or the relics of a saint.

Prayer before surgery for a loved one

It is common among people to pray for life, health and healing not only to the person who needs help, but also to all his relatives. Having united, reading prayers, all those praying give enormous power to your prayers. After all, when several people pray before an operation for one, the chances of a successful operation increase several times.

Before praying for a successful operation of a loved one or loved one, you need to go to church, light a candle for good health and leave a note for good health. Then, upon returning home, pray again, this time in front of the home images.

After an operation to recover a loved one, you must first thank the Lord God for everything he does, then quietly read the “Our Father,” and then ask for a speedy recovery of the ailing relative.

Prayer during surgery - how to ask correctly

The Orthodox Church says that believers should prepare in advance for upcoming surgical procedures:

  • come to the temple to the priest and confess;
  • take communion without fail;
  • Take a prayer book and an icon of any saint with you to the hospital, and it is important not to hide the icon in a cabinet or under a pillow, but rather place it at the head of the head or on the windowsill.

Before going into anesthesia during an operation, you need to constantly say to yourself: “Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy...”.

Prayer after surgery

While in the hospital, you need to pray for your health both morning and evening, without missing a single day. Immediately after surgery, even the most minor one, you need to ask the Almighty for help in a speedy recovery:

“O Lord, our Creator, I ask for your help, grant complete recovery to God’s servant (name), wash her blood with your rays. Only with Your help will healing come to her. Touch her with miraculous power and bless all her roads to the long-awaited salvation, healing, recovery.

Give her body health, her soul - blessed lightness, her heart - Your divine balm. The pain will forever recede and strength will return to it, the wounds will all heal and Thy holy help will come. Your rays from blue skies They will reach her, give her strong protection, bless her for deliverance from her illnesses, and strengthen her faith. May the Lord hear these words of mine. Glory to You. Amen".

It must be remembered: the older a person is, the more difficult it is for him to endure any operation, and there is nothing left to do but pray to the Lord, asking for help, for the healing of the patient. Don’t be afraid to ask the Lord for help - he is the only one who always helps selflessly.

God bless you!

Orthodox prayers before and after surgery for recovery

Medicine has developed so much today that surgery has become commonplace. However, the upcoming test worries the patient and makes him worry about different scenarios for the development of events. Sometimes worries deprive you of sleep, appetite and make a person even sicker.

Regardless of the complexity of the operation, God rules the hand of the surgeon. And God wants a person in any trial to learn not to rely on chance, but to resort to His help and the intercession of the saints.

Why is prayer necessary before surgery?

A prayer before surgery addressed to God fills the soul with peace and hope and works miracles.

“We are not omnipotent, pray,” say the doctors. This is correct: the human body is so complex that any accident can put you on the line between life and death.

Often the patient turns to God for the first time, fearing the unknown outcome of the medical procedure, and general anesthesia is perceived as temporary death.

The saints do not help a person through their own strength, but through prayers to God, who gives what they ask for for the sake of their holiness.

Holy prayer books for health

How and to whom to pray, what prayer before surgery reaches God faster? Will God help an unbeliever or a sinner? The answers are contained in the history of the Orthodox Church, which knows many cases of healing through the prayers of saints.

Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon

In 2010, a miraculous incident occurred with an elderly man at Krasnodar City Hospital No. 1. He had to have surgery on a broken collarbone. General anesthesia was dangerous; doctors doubted whether it was possible to operate on such a patient.

The night before the operation, a young man “in strange clothes” appeared to him in a dream, as the patient himself later said. Leaning over the bed, he handed the man a spoon with medicine and said: “Don’t be afraid, everything will be fine.”

The operation was successful; the doctors were surprised at how easily the patient tolerated the anesthesia and how quickly recovery began. Before being discharged, the man accidentally saw the icon of Healer Panteleimon and exclaimed: “Yes, it was him!”

The help of the Holy Great Martyr Panteleimon in illnesses has been known for a long time. In his earthly life (beginning of the 4th century) St. Panteleimon was a doctor. Before healing, he prayed to the Christian God, which was dangerous: Christians were persecuted by pagans. Seeing the determination of the young doctor, God gave him the power to heal the sick and raise the dead.

Instead of worrying and worrying before the operation, it is better to read the akathist to the Healer Panteleimon and then pray in your own words: “Holy Great Martyr Panteleimon, help the servant of God so and so undergo the operation and recover in order to glorify God.”

Oh, great saint of Christ, passion-bearer and merciful physician Panteleimon! Have mercy on me, the sinful servant of God (name), hear my groaning and cry, have mercy on the Heavenly Physician of our souls and bodies, Christ our God, may He grant me healing from the cruel illness that oppresses me. Accept the unworthy prayer of the most sinful man above all. Visit me with a gracious visit. Do not disdain my sinful ulcers, anoint them with the oil of your mercy and heal me; May I be healthy in soul and body, the rest of my days, with the help of God’s grace, will be able to spend in repentance and pleasing God, and I will be worthy to receive the good end of my life. Hey, servant of God! Pray to Christ God, that through your intercession he may grant me the health of my body and the salvation of my soul. Amen".

Saint Luke of Crimea

In surgeons' offices you can often see the icon of St. Luke of Voino-Yasenetsky. This saint was glorified by the Church in 1996.

In his earthly life he was a famous surgeon, healed many sick people, and wrote works on surgery that are still used in medical practice today. In adulthood, Luke became a bishop, without abandoning his medical practice. God glorified the Saint for his confession of faith in difficult times of the revolution and civil war.

After death, healings continued to flow from the relics of St. Luke. Through the prayers of the saint, patients preparing for surgery were suddenly healed and no surgical intervention was required.

O all-blessed confessor, holy saint, our Father Luke, great servant of Christ!

With tenderness we bend the knee of our hearts and fall before the race of your honest and multi-healing relics, like the children of our father, we pray to you with all our zeal: hear us sinners and bring our prayer to the All-Merciful and Humane God.

We believe that you love us with the same love with which you loved all your neighbors while you were on earth.

Ask Christ our God, that He may establish His holy More Orthodox Church the spirit of right faith and piety; May its shepherds give holy zeal and care for the salvation of the people entrusted to them: to observe the right of the believer, to strengthen the weak and infirm in the faith, to instruct the ignorant, and to reprove the contrary.

Give us all a gift that is useful to everyone, and everything that is useful for temporary life and eternal salvation: the establishment of our cities, the fruitfulness of the land, deliverance from famine and destruction, consolation for the grieving, healing for the sick, return to the path of truth for those who are lost, blessing for the parent, blessing for the child. in the Passion of the Lord, education and teaching, help and intercession for the orphaned and needy.

Grant us all your archpastoral and holy blessing, so that through you we will get rid of the wiles of the evil one and avoid all enmity and disorder, heresies and schisms.

Grant us a godly way to cross the path of temporary life, guide us on the path leading to the villages of the righteous, deliver us from airy ordeals and pray to the omnipotent God for us, so that eternal life with you we unceasingly glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, to Him belongs all glory, honor and power forever and ever. Amen.

Holy Great Martyr Barbara

The Orthodox Church knows cases of St. Barbara helping in critical cases during surgical operations.

The holy martyr is depicted on icons with the Communion Cup. This is no coincidence: Christians are afraid to die suddenly, without confessing and without receiving Holy Communion.

St. Barbara is asked to relieve sudden death during anesthesia.

Holy glorious and all-praised Great Martyr Varvaro! Gathered today in your Divine temple, people who worship the race of your relics and kiss with love, your suffering as a martyr, and in them the Passionate Christ Himself, who gave you not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him, with pleasing praises, we pray to you, the well-known desire of our intercessor: pray with us and for us, beseeching God from His mercy, that He may mercifully hear us asking for His goodness, and not leave us with all the necessary petitions for salvation and life, and grant a Christian death to our belly - painless, shameless, I'm peaceful Divine Mysteries I am involved, and to all, in every place, in every sorrow and situation who require His love for mankind and help, He will give His great mercy, so that by the grace of God and your warm intercession, always abiding health in soul and body, we glorify the God of Israel, wondrous in His saints, who does not remove His help is always from us, now and ever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer help from Guardian Angels

An 80-year-old woman was admitted to the Krasnodar regional hospital with a diagnosis of volvulus. The only salvation was abdominal surgery, which the patient could not endure, she had a bad heart. Relatives were warned about a possible death, everyone prayed, since there was nothing more to hope for.

Before the operation, the woman dozed off and saw a glowing face in front of her. She asked the first thing that came to mind: “Guardian Angel?” The vision immediately disappeared, and the patient’s soul was filled with peace and joy.

“Your grandmother is great!” - the doctors were surprised, discharging the patient, who surprisingly easily recovered from anesthesia and soon got back on her feet. The woman told her happy relatives at home about the vision of the Angel.

Guardian Angels are next to every baptized person. If you do not forget them in your prayers, then they will not hesitate to help.

Sometimes they recommend short petitions of “folk” composition, for example, “My angel, follow me, you are ahead, I am behind you.” This is permissible, but there are no stronger prayers consecrated by the Orthodox Church; they must be said first.

Lord Jesus Christ my God, have mercy on me.

Sing and praise the song, O Savior, worthy of Your servant, the disembodied Angel, my mentor and guardian.

Holy Angel of Christ, falling to you I pray, my holy guardian, given to me for the protection of my sinful soul and body from holy baptism, but with my laziness and my evil custom I angered your most pure lordship and drove you away from me with all the cold deeds: lies, slander , envy, condemnation, contempt, disobedience, brotherly hatred, and resentment, love of money, adultery, rage, stinginess, gluttony without satiety and drunkenness, verbosity, evil thoughts and crafty ones, proud custom and lustful indignation, driven by self-will for all carnal lust. Oh, my evil will, which even dumb animals cannot do! How can you look at me, or approach me like a stinking dog? Whose eyes, angel of Christ, look upon me, entangled in evil in vile deeds? How can I already ask for forgiveness with my bitter and evil and crafty deed, I fall into misery all day and night and at every hour? But I pray to you, falling down, my holy guardian, have mercy on me, your sinful and unworthy servant (name), be me a helper and intercessor against the evil of my opponent, with your holy prayers, and make me a partaker of the Kingdom of God with all the saints, always, and now and ever and ever. Amen.

Many people fear general anesthesia as a temporary death. In this case, you can remember the saints in whose lives there were similar states and pray to them.

  1. Seven Youths of Ephesus. Christian youths, hiding from pagan persecution in the 3rd century, fell asleep in a cave by the will of God and woke up 150 years later, when their country was already ruled by a Christian king.
  2. Holy righteous Lazarus, one of the followers of Christ. Stricken by illness, Lazarus died in his home and was buried. After 4 days, Christ resurrected him, and all the gathered residents of Bethany witnessed the miracle.
  3. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself remained in a state of death for 3 days, until His Resurrection.

Prayers on the day of surgery

Before the operation begins, petitions from “Prayers for Sleeping Future” are appropriate, because anesthesia is the same dream with an unknown outcome.

You can mentally read “Prayer before surgery.” Until the anesthesia takes effect, they say short prayers to themselves: “Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner,” “Most Holy Theotokos, save me.”

Master Almighty, Holy King, punish and do not kill, strengthen those who fall, and raise up those who have been cast down, correct the afflictions of human beings, we pray to You, our God, visit Your weak servant (name) with Your mercy, forgive him (her) every sin, voluntary and involuntary. To her, Lord, Thy healing power was sent down from Heaven to direct the mind and hand of Thy servant the doctor (name of the doctor) so that he could carry out the necessary surgery safely, as if the bodily ailment of Thy free Servant (name) was completely healed, and every hostile invasion was driven far away from him. Raise him from the bed of the Sick and grant him health in soul and body, pleasing Thy Church. Thou art the merciful God, and to Thee we send Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayers of loved ones

“Where two or three are gathered in My Name, there I am in the midst of them,” says Christ in the Gospel. This means that when a loved one is in the hospital, relatives and friends should add their voice to his prayer, then it will be more likely to be heard by God.

During the operation, prayer is said for the patient in church. The priest will not refuse a request to serve a special prayer service “Before a surgical operation,” which is located in the Serbian Breviary. It consists of the usual sequence “On the Sick” and a special prayer.

Not every church can have a Serbian Breviary. This will be an occasion to donate a book to the temple or make other efforts to organize a prayer service, which is also accepted by God.

There is a custom to order magpies in forty churches. This is done whenever possible.

Placed candles and Sorokousts have power only if they are accompanied by the prayer of the sick person and his loved ones.

Prayers after surgery

The worst is over and the person wakes up in intensive care, surrounded by caring nurses. As soon as consciousness clears up, the first prayer after the operation is said: “Glory to Thee, God!”, “Virgin Mother of God, rejoice!” Then you need to remember all the saints whose prayers were asked the day before and thank them.

Upon returning to the ward, a prayer after surgery or recovery, compiled by St. John of Kronstadt, is appropriate.

Glory to Thee, Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of the Beginning Father, the One who heals every ailment and every illness among people, for You have had mercy on me as a sinner and delivered me from my illness, not allowing it to develop and kill me according to my sins. Grant me from now on, Master, the strength to firmly do Thy will for the salvation of my damned soul and for Thy glory with Thy Beginningless Father and Thy Consubstantial Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

They pray for a speedy recovery at the “Three-Handed” icon of the Mother of God, remembering the miracle that happened to St. John of Damascus (7th century).

During persecution from heretics, John suffered a terrible punishment: his hand was cut off for composing church hymns. Having applied the severed hand to the wound, the saint prayed until the morning before the icon of the Mother of God and the next morning he found his hand completely healthy.

Thank God for the successful outcome of treatment

It is the duty of a believer to bring gratitude to God for a successful operation. The way to perform it is chosen to your liking:

  1. After the operation, a thanksgiving prayer service is ordered in the temple, where they pray for the patient himself, his relatives and doctors.
  2. There is a custom of handing out treats with a request to pray for the health of the servant of God (name).
  3. A strong and beloved prayer by many Christians is the Akathist of Thanksgiving “Glory to God for everything.”

Some Christians go on pilgrimages to holy places, making donations.

"God is a Physician human souls and bodies,” wrote St. Basil the Great, “and He prescribes for us a treatment as strong as the severity of the disease. Therefore, let us thank Him even when the healing seems too cruel to us.”

Prayer before surgery I’m not alone on the way to the table; three Angels are leading me; they have very great power. We will now tell you how to read it correctly, as well as how to properly prepare for the operation.

What prayer before surgery will help you?

  • If you, my dear, have to undergo surgery yourself, then it will be useful to read a prayer before surgery, which is called “I am not going to the table alone.” The text of this prayer can be found in our article.
  • Read this prayer without stopping all the way along the way to hospital.
  • It would also be a good idea to read it to yourself until you fall asleep from the anesthesia.
  • If the operation is not performed under general anesthesia, and by local, this means that you will be conscious during the entire process and will be able to read a prayer without stopping at all.
  • The more times you say the words of this prayer, the better.

Prayer before surgery for parents or child

What needs to be done before the operation for the Lord to help?

  • You must remember that the Lord helps only those who honor him and do not break the commandments.
  • Find time to go to church and repent of your sins.
  • Remember everyone to whom you have been guilty of at least something and ask them for forgiveness.
  • Do not wish harm on anyone, even if the person offended you very much.
  • Find the strength to forgive your enemies.
  • Do not swear and never raise your voice, especially at your children.
  • Be calm and don’t give free rein to your emotions. This is the essence of the Lord’s truth - to suppress in oneself the harmful passions and emotions that give rise to evil.
  • Do not utter the word “death” and do not allow thoughts about your death or departure to another world. loved one, who is now undergoing surgery.
  • Don't wear it and don't let it be worn to a loved one before the operation various pins, needles and so on on the body. This is a bad sign. There should only be an Orthodox cross on the body.

Now you know in what cases prayer helps before surgery. I’m not alone on the way to the table; three Angels are leading me.

A conspiracy to make the operation successful

Fear of surgery is understandable. For the operation to be successful, you must not panic and think about death. This word should generally be banned for you! Because our thoughts are material, what you ask is what you will receive. In moments of fear before surgery, it is better to read the Lord’s Prayer. She will reassure you and give you confidence that the operation will be successful.

“Angel of God, my guardian! The goodness of Our Lord entrusted me to your care. You protected me every day and hour from infancy, even in moments of unworthy behavior you did not leave me alone. I humbly address my great request to you. Fear torments me, makes me doubt my destiny with the Lord God, forces me to grumble and does not believe in the generosity of God. Guardian angel my, do not leave me during the operation, stand by my bed, guide the doctor’s hand. Deliver and protect from apprehension and fear and extend my years of life. I rejoice in you and believe that at the hour of the operation you will be there. You are my shield and salvation, deliverance from troubles and dangers. My guardian angel, be with me every day, every hour, every minute. Amen".

When you leave the room, do not forget to call on your guardian angel so that the operation is successful.

“Guardian angel, my God-given protector, come with me. You are ahead, I am behind you."

Successful surgery to you and your loved ones!

2. Read the prayer “Our Father”, and then the spell: “My angel, follow me, you are ahead, I am behind you. You Mother of God, take me off the table, like you took Jesus Christ off the cross. You, the Lord God Himself, give the doctors skill and me patience. Amen."

3. You should confess, take communion, and sincerely repent of all your sins. Forgive those who have ever offended you. Pay back your debts. Pray fervently and believe in the mercy of the Lord God.

My God, I commend my spirit to You.

Bless me, God, and... have mercy,

Grant me life and your guardianship.

Lord and Master of my life,

I hope and trust in You,

By the Glory of Thy Mercy

Like covering myself with a shield.

I will go around the whole world, both water and all land,

There is nowhere more merciful than the Lord and King,

Intercessor and Father.

For You are truly the Christ,

Son of the living God,

The sinner who came into the world to save us.

I still believe in Eternal Life and Your Glory.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

4. First of all, on the day of the operation, never say: “If I die...” Remember that the word “death” is forbidden for you at this time. Do not utter rude words under any circumstances, do not curse anyone, do not wish bad things upon those who have offended you. Think about how your Guardian Angel can intercede for you before the Lord and ask for life and health for you if you yourself wish death for someone. If possible, confess and ask for forgiveness from those you have offended, but do not be alarmed - this is done in case you die. Confession and forgiveness of offenses will also help your Guardian Angel, who will pray to the Lord for you. When undergoing surgery, you should not have pins and hairpins with you - this is a bad sign.

Go ahead, and I will follow you.

Mother of God, help me!

Queen of Heaven, I ask You:

Stand at my table.

Give, Most Pure One, to my doctors

Accuracy, attention and dexterity,

And patience and lightness came to me.

Son of God, have mercy on me!

Jesus Christ our Savior,

Send me, a sinner, healing.

Let the Lord's will be done, not mine!

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit

And now and forever and unto ages of ages

Independent prayer before surgery

In serious illness, a believer invariably turns to God. If surgical intervention is inevitable, in preparation for it, both the patient and his relatives read a special church prayer before complex operation. In religion there are no less rituals than in magic, so prayer alone during an operation is not enough; you need to confess, take communion, and repent of all your sins. Forgive those who have offended you. Pay back your debts. Pray fervently and sincerely, and believe in the mercy of the Lord God.

“Into Your hands, Lord Jesus Christ my God, I commit my spirit to You. Bless me, God, and have mercy, grant me life and your guardianship. Lord and Master of my life, I hope and trust in You, I cover myself with the Glory of Your Mercy like a shield. Even if I go around the whole world, both water and all land, there is nowhere more merciful than the Lord and King, Intercessor and Father. For You are truly the Christ, the Son of the living God, who came into a sinful world to save us. I still believe in Eternal Life and Your Glory. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen".

I'll give it to you good advice: On the day of surgery, do not talk about death. The word “death” is forbidden for you, not just the word and thoughts about any negativity. Don't say swear words, do not curse, do not wish bad things on your enemies and offenders. Think about how your Guardian Angel can intercede for you before God and ask for a successful outcome of the operation if you yourself wish disaster and death for someone. And I repeat: find the opportunity to confess and ask for forgiveness from those whom you have offended and who have offended you. Do this not for yourself, but for your Angel, who takes care of you and prays to God for you. Do not have pins, hairpins, needles, etc. on you. - this is a bad sign.

Orthodox prayer before major surgery

“My guardian angel, come to me, come with me, and you, Mother of God, sit down, sit with me, you will protect me, and you, Jesus Christ, take me off the table as they took you off the cross. Lord, have mercy. Amen".

Independent prayer during surgery does not have to be canonical, you can pray in your own words, but the words must come from the heart. There is a very good life-giving prayer called “Dream Holy Mother of God" Write this prayer on a piece of paper and give it to the patient who will be operated on. Then everything will be fine. This is a powerful prayer that always works. There are several options for this prayer; you must choose the one that suits you best in the current situation.

There is a simple effective prayer-amulet for those who are about to undergo surgery. Even if the surgical intervention is minor, for example, the removal of a bad tooth, call on the Angel for help, say to yourself this strong prayer during a complex operation: “My angel, be with me, give the doctor skills, and give me salvation.” Z.

In all hardships and problems, a believer resorts to the help of the Lord - especially when he is in danger.

A medical operation is a difficult test for both the body and the soul, so you should pray especially sincerely and fervently at all stages of treatment, before and after surgery. Prayer before surgery will help the patient to tune into a positive mood and calm down.

The most important thing, no matter who you turn to for help and intercession, is to avoid all evil, there is no need to read homemade stupid prayers during surgery, or use magic formulas and spells.

Despite the fact that they are harmful and destructive, destroying the soul, giving temporary relief to the body, they are often outright quackery. A phrase in a prayer like “Jesus, take me off the operating table, just as you were taken off the Cross,” should alert anyone - you don’t need to be a doctor of theology to know: The Lord’s body was taken off the Cross dead.

How to pray?

Trusting in the power and mercy of the Heavenly Father, after prescribing the operation, you need to ask Him to bless the intervention. If the operation is in at the moment useful - it will be successful, but if not, God with His Hand will make the necessary adjustments. Having prayed, all events must be accepted without complaint, for the Lord hears all prayers, and after that you are under His protection and patronage.

If the operation does not end in what the doctors expected and sought, the Lord is pleased to entrust you with a cross, the benefits of which you will learn in due time, or you will be saved in another way.

The evening before your scheduled surgery, pray for guidance and direction for the doctors and all personnel involved in the operation. May Almighty God guide man through the right way and he will heal you with his hands.

While you are being taken to the operating room, pray without ceasing, and when you arrive at the place, cross yourself without hesitation and bless the operating table.

Do not wear a cross on a chain during surgery - this may create inconvenience for the doctor in the event of an emergency. Choose a simple cross on a string, and if the anesthesiologist still asks you to remove it, wrap the symbol of the Lord’s help and intercession on your hand, on your hair, or, as a last resort, ask to leave it next to you where it will not interfere with the doctors.

It is very important to disconnect in a state of prayer. When falling asleep under the influence of anesthetic substances, repeat the Jesus Prayer or turn to the Guardian Angel, Saint Panteleimon the Healer, the Most Holy Theotokos, until consciousness finally leaves you.

When you come to your senses, thank the Lord and His Most Pure Mother for successfully undergoing the operation with their help. Having strengthened your body, go to the temple and thank God worthily.

Who should you pray to in case of surgery?

The sick read prayers to various saints - usually these are those saints of God who during their lives had the gift of healing from God - Cosmas and Damian, Kira, John, Ermolai. Most often they pray to Panteleimon the Healer, the most famous unmercenary of all.

Prayer to Cosma and Damian

“Wonderworkers of glory, physicians of mercilessness, Cosmo and Damian! From your youth you have loved Christ God and kept That commandment with all your heart, even if you give yourself the teaching of medicine, but virtuous life for the sake of life and purity of soul, by the power of Christ God, not only the art of healing, but more You have received the abundant grace of healing all sorts of ailments from God by nature. Because of your love and mercy for those who struggle with illnesses, you give healing of illnesses not only to people, but also to cattle, you fill the whole world with countless miracles of yours, and not only do you heal bodily ailments, but you also enlighten souls with the faith of Christ, strengthen them in the patience of illnesses, and strengthen them in serious illnesses. By correcting your life you admonish people and draw them to Christ through repentance. In the same way, now you will soon hear us, who come to you in front of your honorable icon, young children, asking for your help in the teaching of books, instruct us with your prayers, so that your life will be zealous, not just earthly teaching, but rather in piety and right faith. may they prosper. To those lying on their sick beds, human help to the desperate, but to those who come running warmly with faith and fervent prayer, grant healing of illnesses through your merciful, miraculous visit. Many times, in illness and from severe illnesses, despondency, cowardice and murmuring have come, with the grace given to you from God in patience, strengthen and instruct, so that they understand God’s holy and good will for them and betray the will of Christ God to themselves and their lives. Those who are ill, but not concerned about correcting their lives, those who do not repent of their sins, those who are hardened in heart, crush them for salvation and call to repentance, so that those who are weak in body, may remain healthy in soul, and become partakers of God’s saving grace. Save the brethren of this Holy Temple, entrusted to your holy intercession by God, and all those who diligently come running to you unharmed from long illness, from severe and incurable diseases, from weakening of the body, from frenzy of mind, from deadly ulcers, from sudden death, and through your omnipotent intercession to Keep to God those who are firm in the right faith, who advance in piety, good deeds zealous, diligent in prayer to God, so that together with you in the future they will be honored to ever sing and glorify the all-holy and magnificent name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen."

Prayer to the Holy Martyr Ermolai

“Oh, glorious holy martyr Ermolai and quick helper to Christians in illness! I believe with all my soul and thoughts that the Lord has given you the gift of healing the sick and strengthening the paralytic. For this reason, I resort to you, as a blessed doctor of diseases, I am weak and, your venerable image with Kissing me with reverence, I pray: through your intercession from the Heavenly King, ask me, who is sick, for healing from the illness that depresses me, even though I am unworthy of you, my most gracious father and ever-present intercessor, but you, being an imitator of God’s love for mankind, make me worthy of your intercession through my appeal from evil deeds to a good life, heal the ulcers and scabs of my soul and body with the grace abundantly given to you, grant me health and salvation and good haste in everything, so that, having lived a quiet and silent life in all piety and purity, I will be worthy to glorify the All-Holy with all the saints the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen."

Prayer to healer Panteleimon

“To you, as a free doctor, a comforter of the sorrowing, an enricher of the poor, we now resort to you, Saint Panteleimon. Having learned well the wisdom of the world and the art of medicine, you believed in Christ, and having received the gift of healing from Him, you healed the sick without compensation. Wealth is everything distributing yours to the poor, the wretched, orphans and widows, you visited the languid in chains, the holy sufferer of Christ, and consoled them with healing, conversation and repentance. For your faith in Christ, having experienced various torments, your head was beheaded with a sword, and before your death, Christ appeared and named you Panteleimon, that is, all-merciful, because he gave you the grace to always have mercy on everyone who comes to you in any circumstances and sorrows. Hear us, with faith and love, running to you, holy great martyr, for you were called all-merciful by the Savior Christ Himself, and in your earthly life you gave healing to one, mercy to another, and consolation to others generously, not letting anyone go unfavored. So now, do not reject or leave us, Saint Panteleimon, but listen and hasten to help us; Heal and heal from all sorrow and illness, free from troubles and misfortunes, and pour Divine consolation into our hearts, so that being vigorous in body and spirit, we glorify the Savior Christ forever. Amen."

Cancer patients traditionally pray both before and after surgery to the Mother of God in front of her image of the “All-Tsarina” (“Pantanassa”), which has a special grace in healing cancerous tumors. Ask the Guardian Angel to accompany you during the operation, ask in prayer to Panteleimon the Healer to guide the hand of the surgeon - the person on whom your earthly life depends during the operation.

Prayer for the icon “The Queen of All”

“All-good, most venerable Mother of God, Pantanassa, All-Tsarina! I am not worthy, but come under my roof! But as a merciful and gracious Mother of God, say the word, may my soul be healed and my weak body strengthened. You have an invincible power, and all your words will not fail, O All-Tsaritsa! You beg for me, You beg for me. May I glorify Your glorious name always, now and forever. Amen."

What to expect from prayer?

What is the feeling of a person who sincerely prayed and asked for help? Prayer does not have an immediate magical effect, so the question “What will I feel?” V in this case not entirely appropriate. If you asked the Lord with all your heart for help in treatment, boldly handing over your destiny to Him, He will not leave you with His mercy.

Some people report a specific feeling of “grace” descending upon them after prayer. This feeling cannot be described or explained, nor can it be confused with anything. You yourself will understand what it is if you feel grace.

Humbly pray to God for help and assistance - then the Lord will not leave you, he will help you in the difficulties of treatment.

In any case, you will feel peace and tranquility that is not available to any narcotic or sedative drugs, because the Lord Himself will be with you, guiding the surgeon’s hand and protecting you from all evil.

Video: Prayer before surgery

Surgeons and other doctors are instruments in the hands of God. During the operation, the hand of each of them is guided by the Lord. Even under ideal circumstances, force majeure can occur and everything will not go according to plan.

Prayer before surgery to the Lord and holy healers relieves stress, helps to tune in to a positive result, and gives a feeling of calm. IN complex cases When doctors do not guarantee success, you should pray. Through fervent prayers and the intercession of the saints, a miracle occurs and the disease is overcome.

    Show all

    When is prayer necessary?

Already when making a diagnosis and sending the patient to prepare for surgery, you need to pray. In this case, they pray that the diagnosis gives objective results, the specialist is convinced of the need for intervention. There are cases that when cancer is suspected, after diligent prayers, the diagnosis is later not confirmed.

    Prayer is necessary:

    • Before the operation: so that everything goes well.
    • During it: about the health and well-being of doctors.
    • After surgery: about speedy recovery and recovery.

They seek God’s blessing during any intervention: before surgery on the heart, eyes, uterus, or when removing a tumor.

What to do on the eve of surgery?

The patient needs to put on a cross and, if possible, go to church and confess. For bedridden patients, you can invite a priest to the ward. After preparation, proceed to the Sacrament of Communion and ask for a blessing for the operation.

You should forgive your own offenders and mentally or personally ask for forgiveness from those you yourself have harmed. When peace comes in the soul, then the patient internally calms down and tolerates surgery better.

The church serves notes for the 40th. On the eve of the manipulation, a prayer for health is ordered, indicating in it the name of not only the patient, but also the doctors.

Who to pray to during surgery

Before the operation, you need to pray for the blessings of the surgeons and others medical workers involved in the operation. The Almighty grants wisdom to doctors and healing through their hands.

During transport to the operating room, you need to pray short prayers:

    • Jesus Christ: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
    • Mother of God: “Virgin Mother of God, Rejoice, Blessed Mary, the Lord is with You, Blessed are You among women and blessed is the fruit of Your womb, for You have given birth to the Savior of our souls.”
    • Guardian Angel: “Angel of God, my holy guardian, given to me from God from heaven for my protection! I diligently pray to you: enlighten me today, save me from all evil, guide me to good deeds, and direct me on the path of salvation. Amen".
    • Saints:“All saints and angels of the Lord, pray to God for His sick servant (name). Amen".

When moving to the operating table, you need to cross the room and yourself. If you cannot leave the cross on your neck, you can wrap it around your wrist or hair, or ask to leave it nearby where it will not interfere with the doctors.

During the administration of anesthesia, you need to repeat the Jesus Prayer or turn in your own words to your guardian angel, holy healers, Holy Virgin until consciousness turns off.

After the person has regained consciousness, one should thank the Lord and the holy intercessors for the fact that God saved life.

In Orthodoxy, you can make any request to the Lord and His saints. But some of God’s saints are more likely to help in healing, since they had such a gift during their lifetime.

They pray for health to Matrona of Moscow, Luke of Crimea, Panteleimon the Healer, and Nicholas the Wonderworker. They turn to the guardian angel and patron saint after whom the person was named.

    Lord Jesus Christ

The Almighty, out of His love for man, wishes the best for everyone. It happens that for a person’s benefit it is necessary to endure an illness as a test and purification. Illnesses humble us, make the soul more receptive to spiritual things, and open our eyes to sins.

Prayer of the sick person: “Lord God, Master of my life, You, in Your goodness, said: I do not want the death of a sinner, but that he should be converted and live. I know that this disease from which I suffer is Your punishment for my sins and iniquities; I know that for my deeds I have deserved the heaviest punishment, but, O Lover of Mankind, deal with me not according to my malice, but according to Your boundless mercy. Do not wish my death, but give me strength so that I patiently endure the disease, as a well-deserved test for me, and after healing from it I turn with all my heart, with all my soul and with all my feelings to You, the Lord God, my Creator, and live to fulfill Your holy commandments, for the peace of my family and for my well-being. Amen".

A petition for health can be read for the patient by his relatives, especially if his condition no longer allows him to pray on his own. The parents ask for the child, and their children ask for the mother and father. If it is difficult for a husband to pray for his wife, you can ask for the prayers of other caring people, relatives, and friends.

A Christian praying to God before an operation calls upon the mercy of God into the hands of the doctors, trusts in successful outcome and completely entrusts himself into the hands of God, affirming this with the words: “Thy will be done, Lord.”

Prayer to the Lord for the sick: “O Lord Almighty, holy King, punish and do not kill, strengthen those who fall and raise those who are cast down, correct the bodily afflictions of people, we pray to Thee, our God, thy servant (name), who is infirm, visit with Thy mercy. Forgive him for every sin, voluntary and involuntary.

To her, Lord, Thy healing power was sent down from heaven, to guide the mind and hand of Thy servant, the doctor (name), and to carry out the necessary surgery safely, so that the bodily ailment of Thy servant (name) would be completely healed, and every hostile invasion would be driven far away from him . Raise him from his sick bed, and grant him health in soul and body, pleasing and doing Your will.

It is Yours to have mercy and save us, our God, and we send up glory to You, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen".

    Holy Mother of God

There are many miraculous icons Holy Mother of God, and each of them has its own characteristics. In case of serious illnesses, petitions are made to the image of the “Healer”.

Cancer patients pray to the image of the “Queen of All,” which has special grace in healing cancer. For eye diseases, people turn to the Kazan Icon. The circumstances of the appearance of this icon show its power in healing eye diseases. When women are ill, it is customary to offer prayers to the image of the “Unfading Color.” This icon is considered feminine, as it helps with all women's problems.

No matter what image of the Mother of God the patient turns to before the surgical procedure, the prayer can be read the same or a specific one written to the icon is read.

Prayer to the Mother of God: “O Most Holy Virgin, Mother of the Lord Most High, Intercessor and Protector of all who resort to You! Look down from Thy holy height upon me, a sinner (name), who falls before Thy most pure image; hear my warm prayer and bring it before Your Beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ; beg Him to illuminate my gloomy soul with the light of His Divine grace, to deliver me from all need, sorrow and illness, to grant me a quiet and peaceful life, physical and mental health, to pacify my suffering heart and heal its wounds, to guide me for good deeds, may my mind be cleansed from vain thoughts, and having taught me to fulfill His commandments, may He deliver me from eternal torment and may He not deprive me of His Heavenly Kingdom. Oh, Most Holy Theotokos! You, “Joy of all who mourn,” hear me, the sorrowful one; You, called “Quenching of Sorrow,” quench my sorrow; You, "Burning Kupino", save the world and all of us from the harmful fiery arrows of the enemy; You, “Seeker of the Lost,” do not allow me to perish in the abyss of my sins. According to Bose, all my hope and hope is in Tyabo. Be a temporary Intercessor for me in life, and an Intercessor for eternal life before Your Beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Teach me to serve this with faith and love, and to reverently honor You, Most Holy Mother of God, Most Blessed Mary, until the end of my days. Amen".

    Luka Krymsky

During his lifetime, Saint Luke of Crimea was a gifted surgeon. He combined priestly ministry with medical practice. Most often, a prayer to the saint is read before the operation itself.

Prayer to the saint: “O all-blessed confessor, our holy saint Luke, great servant of Christ! With tenderness, we bend the knee of our hearts, and falling to the race of your honest and multi-healing relics, like the children of our father, we pray to you with all diligence: hear us sinners and bring our prayer to the merciful and philanthropic God, to whom you now stand in the joy of the saints and with the faces of an angel. We believe that you love us with the same love, with which you loved all your neighbors while you were on earth.

Ask Christ our God: may he establish the spirit of right faith and piety in his holy Orthodox Church, may he give to her shepherds holy zeal and care for the salvation of the people entrusted to them: to observe the right of believers, to strengthen the weak and infirm in the faith, to instruct the ignorant, to reprove the contrary. Give us all a gift that is useful to everyone, and everything that is useful for temporary life and eternal salvation. Strengthening our cities, fruitful lands, deliverance from famine and destruction. Comfort for those who mourn, healing for those who are ill, return to the path of truth for those who have lost their way, blessing from a parent, education and teaching for a child in the Passion of the Lord, help and intercession for the orphaned and needy. Grant us all your archpastoral and holy blessing, so that through you we will get rid of the wiles of the evil one and avoid all enmity and disorder, heresies and schisms.

Grant us a godly way to cross the path of temporary life, set us on the path leading to the villages of the righteous, deliver us from airy ordeals and pray to the all-powerful God for us: that in eternal life with you we may unceasingly glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, to Him belongs all glory, honor and power forever and ever. Amen".

    Panteleimon the Healer

The most famous Orthodox healer is Saint Panteleimon. During his lifetime, he performed many miracles of healing, and now continues to perform them. Powerful Prayer about healing, spoken by someone undergoing surgery or by people who love him, can create a miracle:

“O great servant of Christ, passion-bearer and merciful physician, Panteleimon! Have mercy on me, a sinful slave, hear my groaning and cry, propitiate the heavenly, supreme Physician of our souls and bodies, Christ our God, may He grant me healing from the illness that oppresses me. Accept the unworthy prayer of the most sinful man above all, visit me with a gracious visit, do not disdain my sinful wounds, anoint me with the oil of your mercy and heal me; Yes, healthy in soul and body, I will be able to spend the rest of my days, by the grace of God, in repentance and pleasing to God and will be worthy to receive a good end to my life. Hey, servant of God! Pray to Christ God, that through your intercession he may grant me health to my body and salvation to my soul. Amen".

    Matrona of Moscow

Mother Matrona is dearly loved by mothers who have seen first-hand the Elder’s ambulance service when their child fell ill. Believing mothers ask for petitions for surgery and for an adult son or daughter.

“Oh, blessed Mother Matrono, with your soul standing in heaven before the Throne of God, but with your body resting on earth, and with the grace given to you from above, exuding various miracles. Look now with your merciful eye on us, sinners, in sorrows, illnesses and sinful temptations, our waiting days, comfort us, desperate ones, heal our fierce ailments, from God we are allowed by our sins, deliver us from many troubles and circumstances, pray to our Lord Jesus Christ forgive us all our sins, iniquities and falls, with them we have sinned from our youth even to the present day and hour, and through your prayers having received grace and great mercy, we glorify in the Trinity the One God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen".

    Nicholas the Wonderworker

Saint Nicholas loved people so much that he is considered a “universal” saint. His love extends to all areas of human life. He sympathized with all the suffering, the poor, the sick and the innocently accused. They also read a prayer to the Wonderworker before surgery.

It is advisable to ask loved ones to read the akathist to the saint during the operation. The help of the Pleasant of God will invisibly support the doctors and the patient:

“Oh, all-holy Nicholas, exceedingly saintly servant of the Lord, our warm intercessor, and everywhere in sorrow a quick helper! Help me, a sinner and sad person in this present life, beg the Lord God to grant me forgiveness of all my sins, which I have sinned greatly from my youth, in all my life, in deed, word, thought and all my feelings; and at the end of my soul, help me the accursed, beg the Lord God, the Creator of all creation, to deliver me from airy ordeals and eternal torment: may I always glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and your merciful intercession, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen".

    Guardian Angel

At baptism, a Christian receives his personal guardian and intercessor before God. He accompanies him from baptism to doomsday. They ask their heavenly patron for God’s mercy, preservation of life and a speedy recovery.

A short prayer: “O Angel of God, my holy guardian, given to me from God from heaven for my protection! I diligently pray to you: enlighten me today, save me from all evil, guide me to good deeds, and direct me on the path of salvation. Amen".

A more complete version: “Holy Angel of Christ, falling to you I pray, my holy guardian, given to me for the protection of my sinful soul and body from Holy Baptism, but with my laziness and my evil custom I angered your most pure lordship and drove you away from me with all the cold deeds: lies, slander, envy, condemnation, contempt, disobedience, brotherly hatred, and resentment, love of money, adultery, rage, stinginess, gluttony without satiety and drunkenness, verbosity, evil thoughts and crafty, proud custom and lustful indignation, having self-will for all carnal lust. Amen".

    Messages of thanks

After a successful operation, the believer brings prayers of thanks and praise to the Lord. When consciousness returns, they say: “Glory to Thee, God! ", "Virgin Mother of God, rejoice! " Then they thank the saints to whom they turned for help.

Thanks be to God: “Lord Jesus Christ our God, God of all mercy and generosity, whose mercy is immeasurable and whose love for mankind is an immeasurable abyss! We, falling before Your greatness, with fear and trembling, like unworthy slaves, bring thanks to You for the mercies shown to us. As the Lord, Master and Benefactor, we glorify You, praise You, sing and magnify You and, falling down, thank You again! We humbly pray to Your unspeakable mercy: just as now You have accepted our prayers and fulfilled them, so in the future let us succeed in love for You, for our neighbors and in all virtues - and grant us to always thank and glorify You, together with Your Beginning Father and Your All-Holy, and Good, and Consubstantial Spirit. Amen".

The full prayer is read in the hospital or at home, and a service of thanksgiving is ordered in church. At the prayer service they pray for the person who has undergone surgery, for his loved ones and his attending physicians. Some people hand out small treats after the service, asking for prayers for health.

Another form of expressing gratitude would be reading the Akathist “Glory to God for everything.” If your health allows, you can go on pilgrimages, making donations in holy places.

There is no special prayer in the event of a surgical operation, but a Christian can and should prepare for such an event.

What to take with you to the hospital

A Christian must remember: illness is sent by God precisely so that a person can escape from the everyday bustle and think about the eternal. This is how you should perceive your condition. Very often to modern man There is not enough time to read the Gospel, the works of the Fathers of the Church, other books of spiritual content, or to think calmly. The disease provides such an opportunity - and we must take advantage of it.

You can ask your loved ones to pray for the sick person - for this there is a special prayer “For the Sick.” They can also order a prayer service at the temple.

On the eve of the operation, you need to not only read the usual evening prayers, but also pray for the doctors and nurses who will operate and assist. On the morning of surgery, you need to pray as usual, and then repeat from time to time short prayers: “Lord, have mercy! God bless! Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner!”

If the doctor insists that the patient remove the pectoral cross during the operation, there is no need to argue - perhaps this is really necessary. In this case, you can help.

There is no need to be like those people who cry out to God when things are difficult for them and forget about Him as soon as the danger has passed. After leaving the hospital, you should definitely visit the temple and thank the Almighty for your healing. At the same time, you definitely need to pray for the doctors.
