November 17 in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory the chamber orchestra “Moscow Virtuosi” by Vladimir Spivakov will present new program. It is entirely dedicated to the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, but offers a look at the work of the great Russian composer from an unexpected perspective. This evening the conductor of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia, Alexander Solovyov, will take the helm.

Success musical evenings“Piazzolla Gala. Parade of Soloists" and "Seasons" inspired the "Virtuosi" to create a new program. The orchestra continues to expand its huge repertoire through transcriptions, looking for non-trivial combinations and, thus, allowing one to hear well-known works anew.

The two parts of the concert will be united by six pieces from Tchaikovsky’s “The Seasons” cycle. The piano miniatures, which were published in the Nouvellist magazine monthly throughout 1876, are both the composer’s musical diary and an encyclopedia of Russian life in the 19th century. The plays contain such a wealth of emotions, picturesque sketches and poetic inspiration that the arrangement for chamber orchestra reveals their hidden potential, all the richness of their colors and feelings.

The new edition of “Seasons” was prepared by orchestra artist Alexey Strelnikov, known as a highly professional arranger. The fact that he is part of the group and knows each of the musicians well makes his arrangement not only unique, but also ideally suited specifically for the Moscow Virtuosi.

"Serenade" for string orchestra and the sextet “Memories of Florence” are often combined in one program as unusually inspired works by Tchaikovsky, permeated with a feeling of endless joy, light and air. “Serenade” is a tribute from the Russian genius to the Austrian, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Each of the movements, including the famous Waltz and Elegy, are so beautiful that they are often performed separately. But only together do they form a complete masterpiece, which you listen to with bated breath.

The sextet “Memories of Florence” is beautiful because here, as in “Serenade,” Tchaikovsky forgets about suffering, anxiety and indulges in sweet dreams. The composer composed a sextet in Italy, and this music is filled with warmth and bliss southern country, which has always inspired poets, artists and musicians. But, as in “Serenade,” Tchaikovsky never ceases to be a Russian composer for a second—Russians appear in these works folk themes, then echoes of the holiday, then motives brilliant ballets composer. That's why they are so dear to our hearts.

Tchaikovsky's music occupies an important place in the repertoire of conductor Alexander Solovyov; his interpretations of the Russian classic are always interesting and convincing. The conductor successfully performs with all the main orchestras of Russia and with European ensembles. IN Bolshoi Theater its repertoire includes 15 opera and ballet performances, including Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and Iolanta, Rimsky-Korsakov's The Tsar's Bride, Verdi's Rigoletto, and Demutsky's A Hero of Our Time. Since 2009 he has been collaborating with the Center opera singing Galina Vishnevskaya and the Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation.

State chamber orchestra "Moscow Virtuosi" was created in 1979, when the outstanding violin virtuoso Vladimir Spivakov united the best musicians of the Russian capital. The star ensemble of soloists and accompanists of leading Moscow orchestras passed the baton to new generations of talented musicians, winners of international and All-Russian competitions. The Moscow Virtuosi Orchestra is called the best Russian chamber orchestra; their performances become top events of the concert season wherever they tour.
