The most mysterious man in the world. The most mysterious people in history

Each of these mysterious stories one could call it a detective. But in detective stories, as you know, all the secrets are revealed by the last page. And in these stories, the solution is still far away, although humanity has been puzzling over some of them for decades. Perhaps we are not destined to find answers for them at all? Or will the veil of secrecy ever be lifted? And what do you think?

43 missing Mexican students

In 2014, 43 students from the College of Education from Ayotzinapa went to demonstrate in Iguala, where the mayor's wife was scheduled to speak to residents. The corrupt mayor ordered the police to rid him of this problem. On his orders, the police detained the students, and as a result of the harsh detention, two students and three bystanders died. The remaining students, as we found out, were handed over to the local crime syndicate Guerreros Unidos. The next day, the body of one of the students was found on the street with the skin torn off his face. Later, the remains of two more students were found. Relatives and friends of the students organized mass demonstrations, triggering a full-scale political crisis in the country. The corrupt mayor, his friends and the chief of police tried to escape, but were detained a few weeks later. The provincial governor resigned, and several dozen police officers and officials were arrested. And only one thing remains a mystery - the fate of almost four dozen students is still unknown.

Who was Benjamin Kyle?

In 2004, an unknown man woke up outside a Burger King in Georgia. He had no clothes on, there were no documents with him, but the worst thing was that he didn’t remember anything about himself. That is, absolutely nothing! The police conducted a thorough investigation, but could not find any traces: no missing people with such signs, no relatives who could identify him from the photo. He was soon given the name Benjamin Kyle, under which he continues to live to this day. Without documents or certificates of any education, he could not find a job, but one local businessman, having learned about him from a television program, out of pity, gave him a job as a dishwasher. He still works there now. The efforts of doctors to awaken his memory, and the police to find his previous traces, did not yield results.

Shore of Severed Legs

"Severed Legs Coast" is the name given to a beach on the Pacific Northwest coast of British Columbia. It received this terrible name because local residents several times found severed human legs here, shod in sneakers or trainers. From 2007 to the present, 17 of them have been found, with the majority being right-wing. There are several theories to explain why legs wash up on this beach - natural disasters, the work of a serial killer... some even claim that the mafia destroys the bodies of its victims on this remote beach. But none of these theories looks convincing, and no one knows where the truth is.

"Dancing Death" 1518

One day in the summer of 1518 in Strasbourg, a woman suddenly began dancing in the middle of the street. She danced wildly until she fell from exhaustion. The strangest thing is that gradually others joined her. A week later, 34 people were dancing in the city, and a month later - 400. Many dancers died from overwork and heart attacks. The doctors did not know what to think, and the churchmen also could not exorcise the demons possessing the dancers. In the end, it was decided to leave the dancers alone. The fever gradually subsided, but no one ever knew what caused it. We were talking about something special form epilepsy, poisoning, and even a secret, pre-coordinated religious ceremony. But scientists of that time did not find an exact answer.

Signal from aliens

On August 15, 1977, Jerry Eman, who was monitoring signals from space at the volunteer Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Civilizations, picked up a signal at a random radio frequency, clearly coming from deep space, from the direction of the constellation Sagittarius. This signal was much stronger than the cosmic noise that Eman was used to hearing on the air. It lasted only 72 seconds and consisted of a completely definite, in the eye of the observer, completely random list of letters and numbers, which, however, was accurately reproduced several times in a row. Eman disciplinedly recorded the sequence and reported it to his colleagues in the search for aliens. However, further listening to this frequency did not yield anything, as did any attempts to catch at least some signal from the constellation Sagittarius. What it was - a prank by completely earthly jokers or an attempt by an extraterrestrial civilization to contact us - no one still knows.

Unknown from Somerton Beach

Here's another perfect murder, the mystery of which has still not been solved. On December 1, 1948, in Australia, on Somerton Beach in southern Adelaide, the body of an unknown man was discovered. There were no documents with him, only a note with two words: “Taman Shud” was found in one of his pockets. It was a line from Omar Khayyam's rubaiyat, meaning "the end." The cause of death of the unknown man could not be determined. The forensic investigator believed that it was a case of poisoning, but could not prove it. Others believed it was a suicide, but this claim was also unsubstantiated. The mysterious case has alarmed not only Australia, but the whole world. They tried to establish the identity of the unknown person in almost all countries of Europe and America, but the efforts of the police were in vain, and the history of Taman Shud remained shrouded in secrecy.

Confederate Treasures

This legend still haunts American treasure hunters - and not only them. According to legend, when the northerners were already close to victory in Civil War, the treasurer of the Confederate government, George Trenholm, in desperation, decided to deprive the victors of their rightful spoils - the treasury of the southerners. Confederate President Jefferson Davis personally took on this mission. He and his guards left Richmond with a huge cargo of gold, silver and jewelry. No one knows where they went, but when the northerners took Davis prisoner, he had no jewelry with him, and 4 tons of Mexican gold dollars also disappeared without a trace. Davis never revealed the secret of the gold. Some believe that he distributed it to the planters of the South so that they could bury it until better times, others believe that it is buried somewhere in the vicinity of Danville, Virginia. Some believe that the secret society “Knights of the Golden Circle”, who were secretly preparing revenge in the Civil War, laid their paws on him. Some even say that the treasure is hidden at the bottom of the lake. Dozens of treasure hunters are still looking for him, but none of them can get to the bottom of either the money or the truth.

Voynich manuscript

The mysterious book, known as the Voynich manuscript, is named after the Polish-born American bookseller Wilfred Voynich, who bought it from an unknown person in 1912. In 1915, having taken a closer look at the find, he told the whole world about it - and since then many have not known peace. According to scientists, the manuscript was written in XV-XVI centuries in central Europe. The book contains a lot of text written in neat handwriting, hundreds of drawings depicting plants, most of which are unknown modern science. The signs of the zodiac and medicinal herbs are also drawn here, accompanied by text, apparently, of recipes for their use. However, the contents of the text are just speculations of scientists who have not been able to understand it. The reason is simple: the book is written in a language still unknown on Earth, which is also practically indecipherable. Who wrote the Voynich manuscript and why, we may not know even in centuries.

Karst wells of Yamal

In July 2014, an inexplicable explosion was heard in Yamal, as a result of which a huge well appeared in the ground, the width and height of which reached 40 meters! Yamal is not the most populated place on the planet, so no one was injured from the explosion and the appearance of a sinkhole. However, such a strange and potentially dangerous phenomenon required an explanation, and a scientific expedition went to Yamal. It included everyone who could be useful in studying the strange phenomenon - from geographers to experienced mountain climbers. However, upon arrival, they were unable to understand the reasons and nature of what had happened. Moreover, while the expedition was working, two more similar failures appeared in Yamal in exactly the same way! Until now, scientists have been able to come up with only one version - about periodic explosions of natural gas coming to the surface from underground. However, experts consider it unconvincing. The Yamal failures remain a mystery.

Antikythera Mechanism

Discovered by treasure hunters on a sunken ancient Greek ship at the beginning of the twentieth century, this device, which at first seemed like just another artifact, turned out to be, no less, the first analog computer in history! A complex system of bronze disks, made with precision and accuracy unimaginable in those distant times, made it possible to calculate the position of stars and luminaries in the sky, time in accordance with different calendars and dates Olympic Games. According to the results of the analyses, the device was made at the turn of the millennium - about a century before the birth of Christ, 1600 years before the discoveries of Galileo and 1700 before the birth of Isaac Newton. This device was ahead of its time by a thousand seconds. extra years and still amazes scientists.

Sea people

The Bronze Age, which lasted approximately from the XXXV to the X century BC, was the heyday of several European and Middle Eastern civilizations - Greek, Cretan, Cananese. People developed metallurgy, created impressive architectural monuments, tools became more complex. It seemed that humanity was moving by leaps and bounds towards prosperity. But everything collapsed within a few years. The civilized peoples of Europe and Asia were attacked by a horde of “people of the sea” - barbarians on countless ships. They burned and destroyed cities and villages, burned food, killed and took people into slavery. After their invasion, ruins remained everywhere. Civilization was thrown back at least a thousand years ago. In once powerful and educated countries, writing disappeared, and many secrets of construction and working with metals were lost. The most mysterious thing is that after the invasion, the “sea people” disappeared as mysteriously as they appeared. Scientists are still wondering who and where this people were from and what their further fate. But there is no clear answer to this question yet.

Murder of the Black Dahlia

Books were written and films were made about this legendary murder, but it was never solved. On January 15, 1947, 22-year-old aspiring actress Elizabeth Short was found brutally murdered in Los Angeles. Her naked body was subjected to cruel abuse: it was practically cut in half and bore traces of many injuries. At the same time, the body was washed clean and completely devoid of blood. This story of one of the oldest unsolved murders was widely circulated by journalists, giving Short the nickname “black dahlia.” Despite active search, the police were never able to find the killer. The Black Dahlia case is considered one of the oldest unsolved murders in Los Angeles.

Motor ship "Ourang Medan"

In early 1948, the Dutch ship Ourang Medan sent an SOS signal while in the Strait of Mallaka off the coast of Sumatra and Malaysia. According to eyewitnesses, the radio message said that the captain and the entire crew were dead, and it ended with the chilling words: “And I am dying.” The captain of the Silver Star, having heard the distress signal, went in search of the Ourang Medan. Having discovered the ship in the Strait of Malacca, the sailors from the Silver Star boarded and saw that it was indeed full of corpses, and the cause of death was not visible on the bodies. Soon the rescuers noticed suspicious smoke coming from the hold and, just in case, chose to return to their ship. And they did the right thing, because soon the Ourang Medan spontaneously exploded and sank. Of course, because of this, the possibility of an investigation became zero. Why the crew died and the ship exploded is still a mystery.

Baghdad battery

Until recently, it was believed that humanity mastered the production and use of electric current only at the end of the 18th century. However, an artifact found by archaeologists in the region ancient Mesopotamia in 1936, casts doubt on this conclusion. The device consists of a clay pot in which the battery itself is hidden: an iron core wrapped in copper, which is believed to have been filled with some kind of acid, after which it began to generate electricity. For many years, archaeologists debated whether the devices were actually related to the generation of electricity. In the end, they collected the same primitive products - and managed to get with their help electricity! So, did they really know how to install electric lighting in ancient Mesopotamia? Since written sources from that era have not survived, this mystery will now probably forever excite scientists.

Today we will talk about several mysterious people, whose biography is shrouded in numerous secrets and mysteries. Some details are shockingly true, others are questionable and border on fiction. Be that as it may, these people will forever remain in history, because the most inexplicable events and things in history are associated with them.

Billy Milligan

24 people lived inside it. He was one of the first to be acquitted by the court due to split personality. Accused of raping three women. Billy Milligan was born in 1959 and did not know a happy childhood. The father committed suicide, and the stepfather was accused of pedophilia and harassment of Billy himself. Then new personalities began to appear in the boy's mind.

Already at the age of 20, Milligan served time in prison for robbery. In 1977, he raped three women on Ohio University campus. During the trial, the lawyer decided to build a defense on the basis of insanity. It worked. Billy was sent for a psychiatric examination, where he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, requiring compulsory treatment.

Around that time, Billy Milligan had already revealed ten personalities living inside his head. Some individuals dominated others and had individual and expressive traits. It turns out that Billy himself was obsessed with suicidal thoughts as a teenager. The instinct of self-preservation in alliance with deviations gave rise to a defense mechanism that created more and more new personalities. The right personality controlled Milligan depending on a particular situation. Each personality was whole and self-sufficient.

The Englishman Arthur was well versed in science and was responsible for the condition of Billy's body. Yugoslav communist Rejen Vadaskovinich was distinguished by a Slavic accent, knowledge of weapons, could write and speak Serbo-Croatian, controlled physical fitness. Adalana was a young girl with a passion for same-sex love. Among the individuals were also small children, bandits and scientists, creative people and marginalized. All personalities had a unifying essence - a certain Teacher.

The teacher appeared during treatment and it was through his voice that Billy Milligan was able to tell about himself in as much detail as possible, which was reflected in Daniel Keyes’ book “The Many Minds of Billy Milligan.” Billy Milligan died at the age of 59 from cancer in 2014.

A Polish boy of Jewish origin demonstrated a phenomenal memory from a very young age and could memorize entire pages of text from complex stories. Messing was born in 1899 into a poor family. His mother died early from consumption, and his father treated him cruelly. 11-year-old Wolf ran away from home and boarded the first train he came across. Messing handed the ticket inspector a piece of newspaper, which he took for a real ticket and returned it, wishing him a good trip. That event became the first real signal of supernatural abilities.

The train arrived in Berlin, where the teenager stayed for the first time, taking on any kind of auxiliary work. Exhaustion and hunger forced Wolf to lose consciousness and end up in the hospital. When the boy woke up and saw a doctor sitting next to him, he asked not to take him to the shelter. The doctor was shocked, because he was just thinking about this. The doctor felt sorry for the child and decided to study his abilities.

Wolf Messing could force his body to enter an almost lifeless state, he was able to transmit and read thoughts with the highest accuracy. Wolf Messing subsequently began to show his gift in the circus. He easily found objects hidden by spectators until the Nazis came to power. In 1939, Wolf Messing fled to Soviet Union, where he continued to perform hypnotic sessions.

Having gained experience in the ability to read minds and guess the contents of pockets strangers, Messing moved on to prophecies. In one of them, he predicted the death of one of Stalin’s sons in a plane crash. The head of the USSR insisted that his son give up flying in favor of railway transport. The plane on which Stalin's son was originally supposed to fly crashed.

The head of the USSR was also grateful to Wolf Messing for his accurate prediction of the victorious end of World War II. The medium said that Hitler was doomed if he sent troops to the east. Because of these words, the Fuhrer even promised 200 thousand Reichsmarks for the seer’s head. Wolf Messing died in 1974 and knew the date of his death for a long time.

Italian physicist born in 1906. His scientific ideas and developments were predicted to have the greatest future, capable of turning the world upside down. At the age of 22, Ettore was enrolled at the Sapienza University of Rome, and a year later he became a doctor of science.

In 1937, a young scientist discovered neutrinos, which put him ahead of his time by half a century. However, Ettore repeatedly reported that he was dissatisfied with the results of his activities, so he tried not to publish his works. He even destroyed own calculations, as if realizing humanity’s unpreparedness for such knowledge. And in 1938 something strange happened. The scientist took all his money from the bank, left a note asking his family to forgive and remember him, and then disappeared.

Some time later, Ettore’s colleagues received a telegram informing him of his return. However, the scientist disappeared completely after that. It has been suggested that Ettore was aware dire consequences from publishing their greatest and most mysterious discoveries, the time of which has not yet come.

In that era, Italy was dominated by the fascists. Ettore may have deliberately concealed himself and his knowledge of how to create weapons of mass destruction.

This theory is also confirmed by the fact that Benito Mussolini personally supervised the search for a scientist who could become a victim of bloody political games. The Italian prosecutor's office claims that Ettore stayed in Venezuela from 1955 to 1959, but it still remains a mystery why the brilliant scientist decided to go specifically to South America and did not return to his family after the fall of the dictatorial regime in his native country.

Woman from Isdalen

On November 29, 1970, a burned female corpse was discovered in the Norwegian Isdalen Valley. The real name of the victim could not be established. Head and top part the bodies lay on the fire. The body and face had beautiful features, age from 30 to 40 years. The gold jewelry remained untouched.

Nearby were found charred pages of a passport, an empty liquor bottle, scattered sleeping pills and plastic containers for gasoline. It was not possible to take fingerprints; the pads were burned. The woman's suitcases were found at a local hotel, but all traces of them had been erased. False passports in different names were kept inside.

It further became clear that the victim had traveled extensively throughout Europe. A complex and grandiose route for her movements was established. different countries and cities. Hotel workers reported that the woman behaved strangely and was very nervous, as if she was afraid of something. The police decided to close the case, sticking to the version of suicide. But not everything is so simple...

Firstly, injuries were found on the victim's neck that cannot be inflicted on oneself. Secondly, a witness came forward and reported seeing a frightened woman a few days before her death. She was in the company of two sullen men of Mediterranean appearance. She clearly wanted to tell the passerby something, but did not dare. After the tragedy, the witness contacted the police, but the investigator recommended that he forget about what happened, since the case would never be solved. Only 32 years later this fact became well known.

The greatest inventor who changed the world forever with his discoveries. Every treatise went beyond the understanding of even the smartest contemporaries. Nikola Tesla, unfortunately, took to his grave as many discoveries as he made public.

In 1898, he installed a strange device in the attic where his laboratory was located. After some time, the walls of houses in the area began to tremble, causing panic among residents. When the police arrived, Tesla managed to destroy the terrible invention, and then declared that he could split the Earth, this only requires a suitable source of vibration and a certain moment in time.

Nikola Tesla was actively involved in developing methods for wireless information transmission. In 1905, a 47-meter-high tower was built. The test launch was accompanied by a grandiose glow for many miles around. In some houses, electric lamps lit up on their own. Nikola Tesla proposed ideas that turned all ideas about the structure of the world upside down.

Many of his contemporaries believed that the scientist generated ideas while in a state of altered consciousness.

Alex Erlandson (1884 – 1964)

This man is known as a very skillful farmer who has created unimaginable structures from living trees. He created living furniture, towers, and various geometric figures, hearts and other interesting elements. Naturally, this man's art attracted a lot of attention, and so he worked in secret, sometimes even installing opaque screens so that no one could see what was happening behind them.

Alex Erlandson even created the "Circus of Trees", which immediately after its opening became a Mecca for crowds of curious tourists. In 1964 this amazing person died without revealing the secrets of his art to anyone.

Interesting fact: in 1985, the Circus of Trees was purchased by millionaire Michael Bonfante, who transplanted all these trees into his own park in Gilroy, California.

Jerome (1840-1912)

On September 8, 1912, the surprised fishermen of Sandy Cove from Canada discovered near their settlement a man with “very beautiful skin” whose both legs had been amputated, and the operation had recently taken place. At first this man could not say anything, which is understandable, but even after he came to his senses, no one heard more than two or three words from him. One of the words was "Jerome", so the fishermen decided that was his name.

Jerome sometimes behaved very strangely - when people who came to him began to talk, Jerome would become furious when he uttered some words. In addition, when he was offered money, he did not accept anything, becoming very offended. Everyone who saw him came to the conclusion that this man was keeping some secret, not intending to reveal it to others.

Wanderer Woman (1793-1816)

She needed urgent medical attention, and her husband found a doctor. He came with several assistants, and the woman’s husband told who they were, taking an oath from everyone present that none of them would reveal the incognito travelers. The oath was taken, and the doctors really did not reveal anything to anyone.

Soon the woman died, and her husband installed a stone tombstone with an engraved verse on her grave. Everyone who sees this grave understands that some kind of interesting riddle, which no one has yet been able to solve.

Leather man (1839-1889)

This amazing tramp made an endless journey along a 365-mile circle, the top and bottom of which were Connecticut and the Hudson River. The man spoke French fluently, but tried to communicate exclusively with gestures. He was dressed in all leather - from shoes to hat.

All along the way, the “Leather Man” collected cigar butts, expressing gratitude to everyone who gave him tobacco in any form. He both smoked and chewed tobacco, completing his entire circle in 34 days. In March 1889, the Leather Man was found dead in one of the caves. He died due to oral cancer, apparently caused by endless smoking and chewing tobacco.

Surprisingly, this tramp always had money, which he spent on food, drink and tobacco. Even the receipt for the purchase of a number of products has been preserved. Who he is is still a mystery.

Arne Berling

Arne Berling is a Swedish mathematician and professor. In 1940, this man was able to decipher the code used by the Germans when it was necessary to transmit any data. The Nazis were confident that their code could not be cracked, but Berling was able to do it using only printouts of the codes, pencil and paper. This code, incredibly complex, according to everyone who participated in deciphering it, was solved by scientists in just two weeks, without any outside help.

Birling did not reveal the method he used to solve the code, saying: “Wizards do not reveal their secrets.”

Edward Lindskalnins (1887 – 1951)

This Latvian emigrant was known as an amateur sculptor. He was able to build a monument without the help of outsiders, which he called the “Castle of Corals.” Lindskalnins is famous not only for this, but also for his original theories of magnetism. Being a very short man, about 150 centimeters, the sculptor created sculptures weighing several tons, and somehow moved them around his park, creating a complex structure that corresponded to some kind of mathematical calculations and astronomical data. The total weight of the creations he moved is about 100 tons.

To the question "How?" he answered, “There is nothing difficult if you know how to do it. If you don’t know how, you won’t do it.” After some time, the mysterious sculptor announced that he had solved the mystery of the construction of the Egyptian pyramids

After some time, the sculptor decided to move, which was done. Edward took the rock garden with him, and, of course, he transported everything using a hired truck driven by a driver. However, he loaded and unloaded these stones himself, asking the driver to move away while loading and unloading. It worked only after sunset. So far, no one understands how 30-ton blocks were moved by a single person. And, in fact, no one understands why all this was done.

This mysterious man died in 1951 at the age of 64 from stomach cancer.

Antonio Stradivari (1644 – 1737)

Stradivari is a violin maker from Italy known to almost all of us. He created violins that had no equal in sound. Over the course of his entire life, the master created about 1,100 instruments, some of which have survived to this day and belong to the most famous violinists. The cost of such a violin sometimes reaches several million dollars, and no modern master can create something like this.

No one - neither scientists nor masters of our time - has yet been able to find anything concrete that would explain such qualities of the violins of the famous Stradivarius. This man did not reveal his secret to anyone, taking it with him to the grave.

Russian history is rich mysterious personalities. Their life gave rise to rumors; popular rumor supplemented the images with unique features. After death, their names became surrounded by new myths and legends, excluding any hope of a solution.

The prerequisites for the appearance of False Dmitry I in Russia are associated with mysterious death under unclear circumstances, the son of Ivan the Terrible, Tsarevich Dmitry. The impostor, who pretended to be the heir who miraculously escaped death, chose a good time: taking advantage of the unrest in the country, False Dmitry took possession of the Moscow throne for almost a year.

The most popular version of the origin of False Dmitry I, which is still supported by many historians, was put forward by the government of Boris Godunov. In correspondence with the Polish king Sigismund, Godunov identified the impostor with the fugitive monk of the Chudov Monastery, Grigory Otrepyev.

However, historian Nikolai Kostomarov suggested that False Dmitry could have come from Western Rus', being the son of a nobleman or boyar. Some researchers put forward the version that the impostor’s courage can be explained by his sincere belief in his royal origin. He turned out to be a blind tool in the hands of the boyars, who, having overthrown Godunov, destroyed him.

Jacob Bruce (1669-1735)

One of the associates of Peter I, a native of a noble Scottish family, Jacob Bruce, was a very extraordinary person. A statesman, diplomat, military man, scientist and engineer - he left behind a bright mark. But he also gained a reputation as a warlock, “the sorcerer from the Sukharev Tower” and the first Russian Freemason.

The creation of the magical image of Jacob Bruce was greatly facilitated by the Russian romantic literature. Candidate philological sciences Irina Gracheva writes that “judging by some data, Yakov Vilimovich had a skeptical rather than a mystical mindset.”

Contemporaries noted that Bruce did not believe in anything supernatural. When Tsar Peter showed the relics of the holy saints to the Scotsman, he “attributed this to the climate, to the properties of the land in which they were previously buried, to the embalming of bodies and to abstinent life.” Yakov Bruce should go down in the history of Russia primarily as a talented military engineer who was involved in improving artillery guns and a scientist who contributed to the development of Russian science.

Monk Abel (1757-1841)

No official documents about the life of monk Abel (in the world of Vasily Vasiliev) have survived. The only exception is the case of the Ministry of Justice Russian Empire 1796, in which a monk was accused of distributing a book of his prophecies.

Historians do not question the identity of Abel, but the authenticity of the prophecies attributed to him is not recognized by most of them. In particular, the Orthodox interpreter Nikolai Kaverin notes that many of Abel’s predictions were constantly updated, and this indicates the formation of the “heresy of Tsardom”, the main sin of which is the equation of Nicholas II and Christ.

Abel's prophecies, in the form in which they exist now, predict destinies with amazing accuracy Russian emperors from Paul I to Nicholas II. In addition, the prophecies predict the end of the monarchy in Russia, the civil and two world wars, the appearance of aircraft and underwater vehicles, as well as the use of asphyxiating gases.

Princess Tarakanova (1745?-1775)

Princess Tarakanova is one of the most famous adventurers in Europe. According to Vice-Chancellor Alexander Golitsyn, “her resourceful soul is capable of great lies and deception.” She changed lovers, names, places of residence like gloves, each time inventing new story of its origin.

The princess claimed the Russian throne under the name of Elizaveta Vladimirskaya, posing as the daughter of Empress Elizaveta Petrovna and Alexei Razumovsky.

According to historians, the decision to impersonate a grand ducal person is largely connected with the sensational story in Europe of the impostor of Emelyan Pugachev.

Princess Tarakanova refused to recognize herself as an “ordinary woman” until the very end. According to one version, the impostor died of tuberculosis in the Peter and Paul Fortress, according to another, she died there during the flood of 1777.

Count Palen (1745-1826)

Count Peter Palen entered Russian history primarily not as an excellent officer who advanced highly in military service, but as a cunning diplomat and intriguer who played main role in the overthrow of Paul I.

For some, he is a hero who saved the Fatherland from a tyrant tsar, for others he is Judas, who betrayed the sovereign who trusted him infinitely.

But for most historians, Palen is nothing more than a puppet in the hands of the Russian nobility, who wanted to quickly get rid of the unpopular courtier.

Some researchers are convinced that Masonic roots should be sought in the conspiracy against the Tsar organized by Palen. However, in Lately In the motives of Palen’s actions, an “English trace” is increasingly being seen: perhaps this is how British diplomacy, through the count, took revenge on Paul for his alliance with Napoleon and for colonial interests in India.

Alexander I (1777-1825)

The Emperorship of Alexander I can be called one of the most mysterious in history. national history: he scandalously ascended to the Russian throne and mysteriously left it. Publicly declaring his reluctance to reign, Alexander I was the Russian autocrat for a quarter of a century.

In 1825, when the health of the wife of Alexander I worsened, the imperial couple left for the south. After visiting Crimea, the tsar himself fell ill, which led to his sudden death. That's what the official version says.

But there are also legends, one of which says that the emperor did not die, but faked his death in order to retire from worldly affairs. According to the most common version, he went to Siberia, where, under the name of Elder Fyodor Kuzmich, he spent the rest of his days.

Of course, this version has no documentary evidence. A story appeared in the Russian emigrant press that after the autopsy empty coffin Alexander I, in the presence of Alexander II, placed the body of a long-bearded old man there. However, the mystery of the victorious tsar could be clarified by genetic examination, which specialists from the Russian Forensic Science Center do not exclude.

Grigory Rasputin (1869-1916)

The personality of Grigory Rasputin is shrouded in so many myths and legends that it is not easy to discern the real one in him. historical character. In revolutionary and Soviet propaganda, the image of the “old man” was so demonized that it acquired caricature features. Many of the accusations brought against Rasputin - of sectarianism, debauchery, behind-the-scenes influence on politics - were never brought to completion due to the fact that they did not receive proper confirmation. For example, the alleged closeness of Rasputin to royal family was refuted by many courtiers.

In the 1990s, the time came for another extreme. Religious veneration of Grigory Rasputin gave rise to the idea of canonizing the “elder” as a holy martyr. Such an initiative was categorically rejected by Alexy II, drawing attention to the “dubious morality” of Rasputin, who cast a shadow on the August Family.

Mysterious murders at the Hinterkaifeck farm

In 1922, the mysterious murder of six people committed in the small village of Hinterkaifeck shocked the whole of Germany. And not only because the murders were committed with horrific cruelty.

All the circumstances surrounding this crime were very strange, even mystical, and to this day it remains unsolved.

More than 100 people were questioned during the investigation, but no one was ever arrested. Not a single motive that could somehow explain what happened was identified either.

The maid who worked in the house ran away six months ago, claiming that there were ghosts there. New girl arrived just a few hours before the murder.

Apparently, the intruder had been on the farm for at least several days - someone was feeding the cows and eating in the kitchen. In addition, neighbors saw smoke coming from the chimney over the weekend. The photo shows the body of one of the dead, found in a barn.

Phoenix Lights

The so-called “Phoenix Lights” are several flying objects that were observed by more than 1,000 people on the night of Thursday, March 13, 1997: in the skies over the states of Arizona and Nevada in the United States and over the state of Sonora in Mexico.

Actually, two strange events happened that night: a triangular formation of luminous objects that moved across the sky, and several motionless lights hovering over the city of Phoenix. However, the latest US Air Force recognized the lights from the A-10 Warthog aircraft - it turned out that at that time military exercises were taking place in southwest Arizona.

Astronaut from Solway Firth

In 1964, the family of Briton Jim Templeton was walking near the Solway Firth. The head of the family decided to take a Kodak photograph of his five-year-old daughter. The Templetons assured that there was no one else in these swampy places except them. And when the photographs were developed, one of them revealed a strange figure peeking out from behind the girl’s back. The analysis showed that the photograph had not been subject to any changes.

Falling body

The Cooper family just moved into their new house in Texas. In honor of the housewarming it was laid out festive table, at the same time we decided to take some family photos. And when the photographs were developed, a strange figure was revealed on them - it seemed that someone’s body was either hanging or falling from the ceiling. Of course, the Coopers didn’t see anything like this during filming.

Too many hands

Four guys were fooling around, taking pictures in the yard. When the film was developed, it turned out that out of nowhere one extra hand appeared on it (peeking out from behind the back of a guy in a black T-shirt).

"Battle of Los Angeles"

This photograph was published in the Los Angeles Times on February 26, 1942. To this day, conspiracy theorists and ufologists refer to it as evidence of extraterrestrial civilizations visiting Earth. They claim that the photo clearly shows that the beams of the searchlights are falling on the alien flying ship. However, as it turned out, the photo for publication was heavily retouched - this is a standard procedure that almost all published black and white photographs were subjected to for greater effect.

The incident itself, captured in the photo, was called a “misunderstanding” by authorities. The Americans had just survived the Japanese attack, and in general the tension was incredible. Therefore, the military got excited and opened fire on the object, which, most likely, was a harmless weather balloon.

Lights of Hessdalen

In 1907, a group of teachers, students and scientists set up a scientific camp in Norway to study mysterious phenomenon, called "The Lights of Hessdalen".

Björn Hauge took this photo one clear night using a shutter speed of 30 seconds. Spectral analysis showed that the object should consist of silicon, iron and scandium. This is the most informative, but far from the only photo of the “Lights of Hessdalen”. Scientists are still scratching their heads as to what it could be.

Time Traveler

This photo was taken in 1941 during the opening ceremony of the South Forks Bridge. The public's attention was attracted by a young man whom many considered a "time traveler" - due to his modern hairstyle, zip-up sweater, printed T-shirt, fashionable glasses and point-and-shoot camera. The whole outfit is clearly not from the 40s. On the left, highlighted in red is a camera that was actually in use at that time.

9/11 attack - South Tower woman

In these two photographs, a woman can be seen standing on the edge of the hole created in the South Tower after a plane crashed into the building. Her name is Edna Clinton and, not surprisingly, she ended up on the list of survivors. How she managed this is beyond comprehension, considering everything that happened in that part of the building.

Skunk monkey

In 2000, a woman who wished to remain anonymous took two photographs of a mysterious creature and sent it to the Sarasota County (Florida) Sheriff. The photographs were accompanied by a letter in which the woman claimed that she had photographed a strange creature in the backyard of her house. The creature came to her house three nights in a row and stole the apples left on the terrace.

UFO in the painting “Madonna with Saint Giovannino”

The painting “Madonna with Saint Giovannino” belongs to the brush of Domenico Ghirlandai (1449-1494) and is currently in the collection of Palazzo Vecchio, Florence. A mysterious flying object and a man watching it are clearly visible above Mary's right shoulder.

Incident at Lake Falcon

Another meeting with a supposed extraterrestrial civilization took place at Lake Falcon on May 20, 1967.

A certain Stefan Michalak was relaxing in these places and at some point noticed two descending cigar-shaped objects, one of which landed very close. Michalak claims he saw the door open and heard voices coming from inside.

He tried to speak to the aliens in English, but there was no response. Then he tried to get closer, but came across “invisible glass”, which apparently served as protection for the object.

Suddenly, Michalak was surrounded by a cloud of air so hot that his clothes caught fire. The man received serious burns.

Bonus:

This story happened on the evening of February 11, 1988 in the city of Vsevolozhsk. There was a light knock on the window of the house where a woman who was fond of spiritualism lived with her teenage daughter. Looking out, the woman saw no one. I went out onto the porch - no one. And there were no footprints in the snow under the window either.

The woman was surprised, but of great importance didn't give it. And half an hour later there was a bang and part of the glass in the window where the invisible guest was knocking collapsed, forming an almost perfectly round hole.

The next day, at the woman’s request, her Leningrad acquaintance, candidate of technical sciences S.P. Kuzionov, arrived. He examined everything carefully and took several photographs.

When the photograph was developed, the face of a woman appeared on it, peering into the lens. Both the hostess of the house and Kuzionov himself seemed unfamiliar with this face.
