Street dancing lessons for beginners. Street dance lessons for beginners. Street dance classes: outskirts style for cool parties

Street dancing is a magnetically fascinating spectacle. Surely you have seen how dancers turn into robots, simulating mechanical intermittent movements, or flutter above the ground, magically almost without touching her with his feet. Here is a video of one of the most famous street dancers, Marquis Scott:

It all seems so impossible, unattainable. I would like to immediately dispel the doubts that most viewers have when watching the video.

Common misconceptions about street dancing

1. This guy is a genius because he improvises.

I'll tell you a secret: everything you see here, every smallest movement, is the result of long training and repeated repetitions. Do you see how easily, for example, a “wave” passes through Marquis’s hand? Before he succeeded, he:

  • flexed my wrist thousands of times;
  • I bent my elbow thousands of times;
  • pushed his shoulder forward thousands of times;
  • connected these movements tens of thousands of times in succession.

Over time, awkward hand rotations turned into a smooth wave. Actually, here it is, for clarity:

And so with any element that you see in the dance. Each of them first undergoes a long process of cutting and settling in the motor memory of the body. Improvisation is a free combination of such elements.

2. This guy has talent, not everyone has that talent.

The movements of each dancer, no matter how free and easy they may seem now, were initially just as timid and clumsy as yours. The same Marquis Scott, whom many would call a genius, before he started dancing, moved no better than anyone else. Dance is not some school of magic inaccessible to mere mortals.

Dance is first and foremost a technique. Technique worked to perfection.

Do you hear music, try to move to it, but it turns out something extremely awkward? But the body of the masters “dances on its own”! But how can your body dance if it doesn't know the moves? Teach it first, and then it will perform the dance for you. And everyone can cope with this.

3. I will never succeed

With desire and effort, everyone can succeed. Get rid of vanity thoughts about your exclusivity.

Surely while watching the video, “Wow!” flashed through your head. If only I...", but you don’t even dare to continue this thought to the end, because, of course, “not everyone is given such a talent, and even more so for me.”

Most likely, many of you watched the video, went to the mirror, tried to portray a “wave”, and instead got real storm with 11 points on the Beaufort scale, laughed and went on about their business. For some reason, people think that a street dancer is naturally gifted. No, he just goes to the mirror one day, tries to do something and laughs at his failure. Only after this does he approach the mirror again and again.

Street dance in most cases is an improvisation based on the free combination of elements of various elements honed to perfection. dance styles.

Yes, street dancing is extreme broad concept, which includes breakdancing, locking, house and much more.

So, you understand that there is no magic or mystery in a masterful dance, and the secret of its ease lies entirely in working out various movements? Already good. Let's move on.

Technique

What is technical development?

  1. Selecting a specific movement.
  2. Breaking it down into its elementary components.
  3. Multiple repetitions of each of them separately.
  4. Consistently combining them into the desired movement.
  5. Repeating this movement, using it in conjunction with others.

Repetition, repetition, repetition is the basis of the technique. Why? Because this is the only way our body learns. At first, the path to each movement will lie through huge volitional efforts, control and concentration. Everything will happen slowly. But with each repetition, new movements will be adapted by your motor memory mechanisms. And in the end the movement will be performed naturally and easily, like waving your hand. You won't have to think about it. It's like learning to ride a bike.

So, mastering dance is available to everyone. But the path to it lies through the development of technology. And working on technology is labor that is long, difficult, and sometimes makes you want to cry.

But there is also good news.

You can work at home. And most importantly, you will find it interesting to work.

Because any routine, unpleasant work receives a motive and becomes much more interesting when it brings some result. And the sooner this result manifests itself, the more noticeable it is, the greater the desire to continue the person lights up.

Believe me, you can learn the simplest techniques of magical plastic surgery in as soon as possible without leaving home. Of course, you won’t become Marquis Scott so quickly, but you will definitely be able to surprise your friends and family, and yourself. Let's take the mentioned “wave”. By following the instructions from the second video of this article every day for at least 15 minutes, in just a couple of weeks you will be performing the movement correctly, quickly and with the necessary automaticity.

Dancing at home

Now about the main thing. The studio has a professional choreographer who teaches and demonstrates movements. What about at home? And at home there is YouTube, where no less professional dancers have already posted thousands of training videos.

If you are one of those people who thought, “Wow! If only I..." when watching the first video, the action plan is as follows: you go to one of the YouTube channels presented below, watch dance videos and determine whose style you like, open the training videos and, getting up from your chair, without leaving monitor (it’s good if there is a mirror nearby), you begin to do what is shown in them. That is, repeat, repeat and repeat the movements.

Don't worry about the small space: we're not learning the waltz, and you'll have plenty of room to learn the basic movements and perform simple sequences. Here, of course, a lot depends on the dance genre. For example, you will be able to master the lower break only if there is a large space and a slippery floor covering.

The life hacker chose the most undemanding styles in terms of square footage, united under the name dubstep. It doesn't really matter whether you like the music: elements of the style itself can be used in completely different directions.

3. Among the foreign channels we can highlight TheRussianTiger And El Tiro. Thanks to the latter, you will learn how to perform the “robot dance” relatively quickly.

4. There are good videos on breakdancing in schools Break Dance School And " Breakwater" Again, this style is not easy to practice at home due to the large space it requires and the special flooring it requires.

Remember, the main thing is sincere desire and regular practice. Without one there will be no other. At the same time, desire and practice are a universal remedy for all “failures.”

Street dancing originated on city streets, on busy alleys. This style is characterized by fast, seemingly impulsive movements, sudden transitions from fast rhythms to smooth movements, and unexpected freezing is also typical.

For street dancing venues under the theater acted as choreographic studios open air: some school yards, streets and alleys. Often these "studios" consisted of several groups, breakdancers and hip-hop, who organized dance battles among themselves. And since movements of any dance style are allowed in battles, the street dance style has absorbed many elements of different styles. Street dancing techniques include elements of hip-hop, funk, break, RnB, disco and many other styles.

Street dancing as a separate movement first appeared in the early 70s of the twentieth century in the USA. Then a lot of people appeared in America dance groups dancing in the streets. Step by step it degenerated into a whole culture. In street dancing, movements of different genres are mixed together, sometimes seemingly completely incompatible.

The street dance style has its own philosophy. Main idea of these dances is that a person wants to talk about himself, and here certain trick skills are not even so important, special tricks and steps are only a complement to this dance. The street dance style does not have any specific standard steps invented by experienced choreographers - indeed, all the movements were born on the streets of the city.

Music that you can’t stand still while listening to, its simplicity and certain looseness of movements will not leave anyone indifferent! They say that street dancing relaxes the soul, and the body itself moves to the beat of the music.

It doesn’t matter where you got the desire to learn how to street dance. Maybe you watched a movie of the same name, or maybe you walked down the street and saw guys doing incredible things. It is important that the desire that comes to you does not seem impossible to you. In fact, you can do it at any age. So, you have made up your mind, but the question immediately arises: “How to learn to dance street dance? Where to start? Let's take a closer look at the first steps to learning such amazing dances. But first, let's go back in time a few decades.

Story

The first street dances appeared in the 70s. The United States can be considered their homeland. At that time, people from small towns began to move entire families to larger cities. Ghettos and middle-income neighborhoods were practically overcrowded. In those days, young people were allowed to take musical equipment outside, listen to music and have fun. This was the birth of street dancing. For children who spent time on the streets, dance schools or studios were inaccessible; their parents simply were not able to pay for their studies. Therefore, young people began to dance in the streets.

It didn’t matter who you were, what nationality you were, or how you dressed. The dance, the unusual movements, the own style. Guys living on different streets sorted things out by dancing, proving their superiority. It didn’t matter who you were or where you were from, it was important how you could dance.

Where to start?

To begin with, it is advisable to ask if there are places in your city where you can learn street dancing techniques. If they are, then you are incredibly lucky. The fact is that to master the technique you need to learn the most basic basic elements. Once you know the basics, you will understand how to learn how to street dance without looking like a robot who is simply repeating memorized movements.

If for some reason you cannot work with the general flow of students (due to a large class, for example), then talk to the choreographer. It is quite possible that he will agree to give you individual lessons, will recommend watching necessary materials, which tells you how to learn how to street dance. Most importantly, don’t be shy to take the first step.

Important points

In street dancing, the most important thing is improvisation. Take a closer look and you will see that not a single dancer exactly repeats the movements of the other (this only applies to individual dance, but in group dances it’s the other way around). Two things are important for success in dancing - the ability to improvise and feel the music. In this case, success is guaranteed.

If you have never been to a dance club, and all your dancing was limited to disco, then, of course, you will have to work hard. It is advisable to repeat new movements at home, preferably in front of a mirror. This way you will see and understand what you are doing wrong, how you look from the outside. There is no need to learn several movements at once. Everything needs to be done gradually. Each new movement must be practiced by you until it becomes automatic. You must learn to perform it subtly and clearly, so that later you don’t have to wonder where you should place your foot or how to raise your arm.

You have learned a few movements, try to do a combination, also practice it until it is completely clear, so that when you wake up at night, you will repeat it “automatically” without hesitation. With this approach, you yourself will soon understand what you need to do and how to learn to dance street dance.

Dance

For a person who is just starting to master street dance, all the movements seem simply unreal. This is not true, because others dance. If you have strong desire learn to dance, don't give up. If you start studying, don’t allow yourself to give up this exciting activity. It's only difficult at the beginning. Do auto training, tell yourself: “I want to learn how to street dance, and I will do it!” And dance wherever possible. Do you do cleaning? Dance! Are you preparing lunch? Dance! Are you going to visit? Turn up the music and dance!

Training for beginners at home

Is it possible and how to learn street dancing at home? Of course, it is possible, however, it will be somewhat more difficult without the help of a choreographer. In this case, you just need to purchase a video for beginners to dance. Disassemble all the most simple movements, learn them. Under no circumstances start with complex elements, even if they do not seem so difficult to you. Surf the Internet, on forums, you can find a lot there useful tips from those who managed to learn dancing on their own. Ask your friends or acquaintances, what if they take dance classes? Now street dancing is the most popular. Very useful to watch feature film, where street dancing takes place.

The main thing is to believe in yourself. Street dancing can be learned, but there is no need to rush. Then you yourself will feel how much your life will change, because music helps. It lifts your spirits, and dancing will get you in shape if you want to lose weight the best way can’t be found, and no diets are needed. And most importantly, if you start dancing, don’t stop. Repeat again and again: “I want and I know how to learn how to dance street dance, and I will dance it!” Believe in yourself and you will succeed.

Is it difficult to learn to dance?

It's really no more difficult than anything you're new to. Dance styles are very different from each other. Even if you have mastered one of them, it will be unusual for you to do the other.

However, all dances are associated with the ability to control your body. And if this is not new to you (for example, you have been involved in martial arts, gymnastics, swimming, and even more so dancing), it will be easier for you to adapt to new movements than for a beginner who is not friends with his body.

Even if you have a rather wooden body, you should not despair. The secret of success is constant practice.

Learning to dance from video lessons is more difficult than from courses. If your body is flexible and obedient, you can still do something similar to the movements of the instructor from the video. If not, you can quickly become disappointed in dancing: the difference between what is shown in the video and what you see in the mirror will be too strong.

Still, it's worth a try. At least in order to decide on the right one.

How many times a week do you dance?

At first, after exercising, your muscles may ache. But, unlike strength training or running, the body does not require a recovery period.

Therefore, you can safely practice dancing all the time. One of my teachers said that you need to dance 25 hours a day. In any case, the more you dance, the more noticeable your progress will be.
