    According to legend, salad ball was first served in the network of canteens and taverns of the Moscow merchant Anastas Bogomilov. The main visitors to his establishments were not the most luxurious audience - workers and peasants. It was not a calm time then - 1918.

    Today, vegetables are grated and cut into cubes as desired. But the original recipe insists on grating the vegetables on a coarse grater.

    It’s better to grate vegetables directly while hanging, over a salad bowl. This makes the fur coat more airy.

    Herring under a fur coat salad consists of several layers: potatoes, herring, onions, carrots and beets. But the sequence differs among housewives according to two options. In the first case, put herring on the bottom, and then potatoes and the remaining layers.

    In the second option, half the potatoes are placed on the bottom, and then the herring and the remaining layers. This option is better in my opinion. Through trial and error, it turned out that this way the potatoes are better saturated with the taste of the herring, and it is already, as it were, under a fur coat on all sides.

    There is another tricky way to achieve a splendid salad. To do this, the layers are repeated 2-3 times.   • Potatoes - 4 pcs;
  • Onion - 1 piece;
  • Carrots - 1 piece;
  • Lemon juice or 9% vinegar - 1/2 teaspoon;
  • Mayonnaise “Provencal” - 150 ml;
  • Salt to taste;
  • Chicken egg - 1 pc (optional).
  • Step 1.

    Boil the vegetables, preferably in their uniforms. After boiling until tender, cool and peel. If you use an egg, hard boil it.

    It is better to use herring in a barrel; it tastes better than from a jar. We wash the fish and clean it of entrails and bones.

    Now we begin to assemble the salad in layers. The first layer will be potatoes. Take half the potatoes, peel them and grate them (I have 2 tubers). Rub directly over the salad bowl.

    By the way, you need to immediately form the shape of the salad. Some make it an elongated oval (in the shape of a fish), others make it into squares or a circle. It doesn’t matter, do whatever your heart desires.

    Now pour mayonnaise generously on top and use a spoon, carefully spreading evenly. But just do not press down so that the salad turns out airy.

    Now we cut the herring into medium-sized cubes. You don't need to cut it finely to taste the herring. Place the herring on top of the potatoes and pour mayonnaise over them. But we don’t smear it. You can pour the mayonnaise over the mesh, or just whatever you like.

    Now cut the onion into cubes and lay it out in a third layer. Then sprinkle with lemon juice or vinegar. Top with a little mayonnaise and spread in a thin layer.

    If the onion is bitter, you can scald it with boiling water and squeeze out excess moisture.

    Place carrots in the fourth layer. Using a coarse grater, grate it directly onto the salad. Top with mayonnaise and spread without pressing.

    Place the remaining potatoes in the next layer. Also grate on a coarse grater directly on top. Salt to taste (about 2 pinches). Pour mayonnaise and spread without pressing.

    Now you need to decorate the salad on top. We have a boiled egg. It can be grated on top.

  • Herring - 1 piece;
  • Potatoes - 4 pcs;
  • Eggs - 4 pcs;
  • Carrots - 3 pcs;
  • Beets - 1 piece large;
  • Apple - 1 piece;
  • Pitted olives - 100 g;
  • Peeled pomegranate - 1/2 pcs medium;
  • Green onions - 1 bunch;
  • Mayonnaise.

    We won’t describe it in great detail, everything is the same as in the classic recipe. We start with vegetables and boil them. We also boil the eggs immediately. When ready, remove, cool and peel.

    Preparing the ingredients. We clean the herring, leave only the boneless fillets, and cut the middles into pieces.

    Finely chop the onion. Cut the olives into slices. Peel the apple and grate it on a coarse grater. We also grate the vegetables on a coarse grater. All we need from eggs is the yolk. It can be grated on a fine grater or mashed with a fork.

    Step 4.

    Lay out the layers. First, half the potatoes - mayonnaise - a little onion - herring - mayonnaise - carrots - the rest of the potatoes - mayonnaise - olives - apple - egg - beets - mayonnaise - generously decorate with pomegranate.

    Place in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours. Then you can serve it on the table.

    From one more interesting option how to serve herring salad under a fur coat in small portions. This will especially appeal to those who really love rolls. The recipe itself does not change much, the form and method of serving changes significantly.

    Ingredients:

  • Herring - 1 piece;
  • Potatoes - 1-2 pcs (depending on size);
  • Carrots - 1-2 pcs (depending on size);
  • Beets - 1-2 pcs (depending on size);
  • Onion - 1 piece;
  • Noria seaweed - 2 sheets;
  • Hard cheese - 1 tablespoon;
  • Vinegar, preferably balsamic;
  • Mayonnaise.

    We start as usual: boil the vegetables. When ready, cool and clean. Grate the vegetables on a coarse grater.

    It is not at all necessary to wash the grater before each new ingredient, since there is nothing to worry about if one component of the salad becomes slightly “contaminated” by another.
